- Chepauk Stadium, is a cricket stadium in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India Established in 1916, it is the second oldest cricket stadium in the country after Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Formerly known as Madras Cricket Club Ground, the stadium is named after M. A. Chidambaram Chettiar, former president of BCCI and Head of TNCA.

My first experience of watching Cricket match in 1983 paying Rs.20 ticket - this is the match where Sunil Gavaskar set his highest run score 236 not out. Thank you Mr.Sriram for your great work.
I also seen same match I paid daily rs 15 for B stand.

2005---> இந்தியா VS ஆஸ்திரேலியா டெஸ்ட் மேட்ச் 4ஆம் நாள் ஆட்டத்தை பார்த்தேன்.
2008, 2009, 2010--- > சில IPL மேட்ச்களைப் பார்த்தேன்.
27/10/2023 அன்று பாகிஸ்தான் VS தென்னாப்பிரிக்கா உலகக்கோப்பை லீக் ஆட்டத்தை பார்த்தேன்.

For Rs 15 I have seen Test matches in D-stand. Lot of Buchi Babu and Ranji matched. Beautiful days those were.

My first visit to the fully constructed stadium was during TN vs Karataka Ranji trophy match. it was a star studded match , with Prasanna, BS Chandra sekar, AV Jayaprakash, Sanjay Desai,Brijesh Patel playing for Karnataka , and for TN , V Siva ramakrishnan, Michel Dalvi, Satwendar Sign, Mukund,Kayana Sundaram ,being lead by Venkat Raghavan.
TN won the match and faced Bombay in the finals.
The ticket was Rs 35 for D stand,.It was like a Test Match Sunil Gavaskar, ED Solkar, Ajit Wadekar, SS Nayak, Ramnath Parker, etc Etc

Super sir, wonderful information. Rewound my memories. From wooden seated Chepauk Stadium (West Indies tour under Gary Sobers) in 1966 to 2011 CSK match. What a transformation this stadium had undergone.

Very nice narration. Have witnessed matches from 1988 , double wickets tournament involved Indian cricketers like Sachin, 1993 India England test Sachin scored 165, Kapil scored is 5000 test runs, 1994 India vs West Indies ODI Azhar scored 86, 1999 India Pak test Sachin scoree 136 and we gave standing ovation to Pak team, 1997 Indepedence cup vs pak, 2001 India vs England ODI, 2004 India vs Australia test, 2008 entire IPL from D stand which had bench then for Rs 3k pass, now each ticket is more than that... Nostalgia retrigerred. Chepauk sadly is too costly now, nothing like straight view

The architect for MA Chidambaram Stadium was Late Sangameswaran who took only Rs 10000 for making the design since he was a cricket enthusiast.

I read in a book which was issued on this subject MAC Stadium and in one of the chapters it is mentioned that we had the fastest wicket in India equalling to the WACA - Perth stadium. Even sunny Gavaskar mentioned in his book about the pitch as it is used to have a good carry and bounce to the keeper.
True, it used to be rank turner for many years, then it became pitch for fast bowlers ( Andy Roberts, Vanburn Holder, Keith Boyce ransacked Indian batting in 1974 WI tour of India) now it is neither there nor here kind of patch.
@@saikumarckrishna2508 yes you have pointed out that series correctly, i didn't want to mention it because I was but confident of the dates. One my friend who is an ardent fan of cricket mentioned in a critical way that after the defeat it was Gavaskar who pestered BCCI not to have such pitches in India as it will give an undue advantage to the touring side . At that time we had Abid Ali doing the seamers role alone and then followed by spin quartet.
Buchi Babu naidu found his true calling in shaping Madras's sporting scene .Cricket in those days was controlled by the whites-only Madras Cricket Club (MCC).the legend of Buchi Babu , the father of Southindian cricket, continues continues to live on thanks to the annual tournament organised by the TNCA which continues to draw top teams , This tournament is the curtain raiser to the domestic season and each player takes it very seriously.
