Yeah, it wasn't until after I scored the interview that I realized I had no idea how to do the interview! I'm just a gawky, starry-eyed, gushing fan who's so nervous he keeps cutting off the guests - embarrassing yes, but entertaining nonetheless!
This is amazing. And btw...I tested real quick what questions I'd be able to pop off the top of my head for an interview of my favorite band and this would be all them: um...hi! I love you guys! Thank you'". The end. So yeah....great fkn job man!
You did great. You can tell they knew you were a fan and still were very cool and playful and never demeaning. Such a great thing to have on film. Thumbs up, been really loving this band lately.
Trey's Mom was an enormous influence on him and thus on Phish. She encouraged him to write songs. He wrote a song called 'If I were a dog' which is now the final section of Lizards that everyone loves. Hum the first five notes and you'll see how 'If I were a dog' fits. Now Phish donates huge sums of time and money to children's musical education.
What an awesome view into the brilliance of Phish... word play being a part of their creative strength in songwriting. The whole "role" section with Cactus topping it off with "honor roll" brings a deep moment of nostalgic glee during which I completely forget all problems of today recalling a time when all was well or so it seemed in the world...what a different time it was! Thanks Phish and interviewer.
@@stucothe Beatles and Grateful Dead were funny as shit, Phish are a lot nicer and spend a lot more of their time working on music but theyre still pretty funny sometimes. Also the Beatles
"patterns weave interamongs. interamongst weaving of the patterns" i am cracking up. they are so funny. in some interviews with trey he said he knew his addiction needed to stop because he lost his sense of humor. he says his humor with the band mates was "seven layers deep." i think we are witnessing their humor on a deep level in this video. god, the roles/rolls. LOL
" must mention that after the interview I made a request of Trey for that evening's show: Run Like an Antelope. Check the setlist... :-)" Now, that is a truly Epic... FAHT > ANTELOPE... one of my favorite versions.. awesome work bruh!!!
this was hours after maybe the most epic phish night...UIC Pavilion, 6-18-94. IMO best night ever. Trey discusses divided silent jam in a later interview (2003) as a magical moment. now i understand why they all look blown away...what a bunch of goofballs
Thanks for mentioning the UIC show, Doug. I ran a search and found it posted here on YT. You're right. The set's sick and they sounded great! It makes total sense they'd basically be zombies the next day. In the comments under that show, one lucky bastard notes that as his first show! Needless to say, he was hooked after that.
Brad Sittloh My first show was in 94 at the Bomb Factory in Deep Ellum Dallas, TX. I feel super lucky to have been there and knew at the time too. Later, I found out that was regarded in the top 5, but also have heard that it is regarded as their best show ever. I wish I would have been to more Phish shows in that period, like the one you guys are talking about. Seems it was a good year for them!
That was awesome... And hilarious, due to the low-quality of it. Hearing the people in the background was awesome. The interviewer did a great job, I'd say, and I'm glad he was very familiar with their music. This was great to watch, thanks for posting it!
Good deal fellas. No doubt 94 was an epic year. I'm actually a poser, my first show was 95. Regardless of superlatives, I'm so grateful to be at any show where the musical heavens opened up! Glad to share the experience. I've had a thank you letter set aside for the guys for some time now...I should send it eh
And now you are a wage slave to afford this crap band who preaches equity hahaha pay us $100 for a ticket and get lectured privileged white man! Hahahah phish sucks
Haha! I can't believe I didn't know this existed. Watching the intro, I thought, that's the Kalamazoo state theater.. And it was! This would have been my wife's first phish concert!
I wonder if them talking about the Beatles a lot is foreshadowing to the Halloween show they would do later in 94 where the cover The White Album...I'm pretty sure it is for the record
100%. I feel like they had to have planned ahead: "If he asks us about influences, let's just say The Beatles as many times as we can." Definitely makes sense that they would have made the decision to cover the White Album as early as June, and dropping the hint is this interview is very them.
Ah, the EV635a. When aliens find our destroyed civilizations in a few thousand years, they will dig up one of these microphones, plug it in, and it will still work
Interview questions started off slow and awkward but got better towards the back half. You could see the band respond better once he started asking about singing and playing at the same time.
How do you know? hahaha...you know they really didnt party that much right? I know cause i was around touring with them when there was maybe 10 people doing phish tour.
We were at this show and the next 4 too. What a time to see them!
This interview is classic!!
"it's music without meter... but it's timely... it's a music who's time has come"

Sean Duross i think you did good. It was very gracioys of them to allow a young kid to rapid fire questions at them .
This is amazing. And btw...I tested real quick what questions I'd be able to pop off the top of my head for an interview of my favorite band and this would be all them: um...hi! I love you guys! Thank you'". The end. So yeah....great fkn job man!
Haha. Like Chris Farley meeting Paul McCartney on SNL "You remember that time you played at MSG? That was awesome.."
This is amazing. So glad you did the interview!
You did great. You can tell they knew you were a fan and still were very cool and playful and never demeaning. Such a great thing to have on film. Thumbs up, been really loving this band lately.
"Patterns weave...interamongst... interamongst weaving of the patterns."
lord, i love Phish interviews so much....the intermixing of silly and serious answers is great.

Brilliance is a bit overstated more like melancholy
Went to Red Rocks 6/10 and 11 what a great time to be a Phish phan
one day after 6/18/94 - one of my favorite shows!
This is actually classic improv. They might not be trained in comedic improv but they are definitely doing it organically.
@@stucothe Beatles and Grateful Dead were funny as shit, Phish are a lot nicer and spend a lot more of their time working on music but theyre still pretty funny sometimes. Also the Beatles
This is actually brilliant

marry me page
The interview where they reveal the Halloween album for '94...
"Makisupa Policeman was written in 3rd grade". The first and most important song. :)
" must mention that after the interview I made a request of Trey for that evening's show: Run Like an Antelope. Check the setlist... :-)"

good job preserving this view of music history
Zooming in on Fishman staring at the camera. Classic.

they are so fuckin goofy i love it
This is pretty funny stuff! Fishman is great!
This is so freaking great.
This was on my 19th birthday which coincidentally, was right around the time I started getting into PHISH.
Page is honor roll.
Wow this brings back some memories. My first show was in June 94. Is it just me or were they hinting at what the Halloween costume would be in 94.
Nearly coughed out a lung watching this while laughing. Needs to go into a time capsule.
Haha! I can't believe I didn't know this existed. Watching the intro, I thought, that's the Kalamazoo state theater.. And it was! This would have been my wife's first phish concert!

I think that might be the best al capella ditty i've ever heard
I saw them at Wings Stadium the following year!
Oh this is just so ridiculously ridiculous............it's like music without meter🫠
"The gay 90s"
this is sooo funny, im crying
Is interamongst a word? Cause I'm going to start using it.
It is
FISHMAN THAT CLOWN !!!! holding that glass LMAO
Ah, the EV635a. When aliens find our destroyed civilizations in a few thousand years, they will dig up one of these microphones, plug it in, and it will still work
great post!
That guy thought he was going to be an MTV VJ
actually I liked him..seemed really cool when, in all reality, fish was a little embarrassing. He seemed like a really nice guy
You sound as if that is a crime.
Dude was/is a fanboy... So that makes the interview cool
Interview questions started off slow and awkward but got better towards the back half. You could see the band respond better once he started asking about singing and playing at the same time.
PAGE IS SO EFFING CLASSY!!!!
Dude, THIS IS EPIC, and so is your hair.
... patterns weave inter amongst ... inter amongst weaving of the patterns ...
great stuff
Did the interviewer know before hand that they would be fucking w/ him and his questions? Love this interview...good ole' fashioned PHiSH!!
was at the kalamazoo show.
Fishman is just the funniest dude ever
I'd also like to say that Axilla is our drummers favorite song.
they are all high out of there minds!!!!!!!!! classic phish
I'd seriously love to hear your story, bud. What brought you there and what you're up to now
Nuff said!
the guy farthest to the left reminds me of michael cera
6/22/94 was a fucking bomb ass show. That second set was nasty
"Bird-singer" LMAO
A LOT more than most people.
so ridiculous, I love it.
nice shorts guys
This is the funniest shit I've seen in a while.
AXILLA !!! Cool questions man.... Hope you get MAIL ORDER FOR LIFE !

I have you beat.
patterns weave inter-amongst, inter-amongst weaving of the patterns.. ahhahah
Who knew, Kalamazoo! ;-)
I love axilla also.such a mean riff
Weaving of the patterns
Interamongst weaving of the patterns
This was 2 days after the OJ show.
straightcashhomie1 which was on Jam On tonight. Run OJ run!
it's without meter, but it's timely
What I want to know is who's dropping Rolls?
Page is on a roll, alright lol
page is honor roll
Their all gonzo on something esp Paige and Fish.
Day after that chicago show man
i've gained a little weight on this tour. and i think that roll gets in the way the most on this tour.
@littlekidlover569
its the bassist mike gordon, and i thought that for YEARS since i saw michael cera in arrested development
hahaha "interamongst weaving of the patterns"
Trey and Tom wrote Makisupa Policeman in the 3rd grade!?! wow fun fact, i never knew....
..and the beatles.
My role, as well.
I'll never forget how damn HOT it was inside the theatre that night!
I love rolls😅
dig mike's shorts, one decade behind
hey guys did you know axilla is the drummer's phavorite song?? lol
this is hilarious
"Bird singer."
Is it just me or does the drummer look just like russell crowe in "the insider?"
8:50 Hey hey hey as the camera man awkwardly zooms into fish’s crotch
I actually own the "Holy Grail." This is a stop on that run.
How do you know? hahaha...you know they really didnt party that much right?
I know cause i was around touring with them when there was maybe 10 people doing phish tour.
@5:34 wtf drumming?
