Great to see Nuku’alofa these days. I used to visit when working on a cruise ship in 1973…I think it looked a bit different back then. I left a little bit of my heart there; lovely people!
Very nice tour of Tonga. I have always wanted to go there and maybe even move. My father entertained the brother King Toupa IV at the Tongan Government's request for a tour of Kamehameha Schools in Honolulu. I even have the Telegram that was sent back to Tonga welcoming that Royal Party with my father's name on it. I think the Prince at the end of his life he was called Prince Tatifahi but that is not what he was called when he toured Kam Schools. When my parents met with the State Department they were told the Prince was a Royal Highness and his wife was a Highness. My father was the Vice President of the Kamehameha School. The President was on the mainland
Lovely video of TONGA and the Capital City of Nuku'alofa. I am most impressed by the size and Grandeur of the Wesleyan Church, and the burial grounds of the Monarchy and his Family of Tonga, as well as the grounds of the Royal Palace. Lovely view of the harbour of Nuku'alofa. The tour bus needs to be modernized, and air conditioning installed given the high humidity and temperatures in Nuku'alofa and in Neiafu. Very interesting and informative tour video !
+Michael Friedman Thanks Michael... Some of the buses leave the doors permanently open while they are driven around the island, so, no worries about A/C... :))
@VicStefanu...I repeat myself here, Vic. But while attending humanist lectures at Stanford University during the 90s, I think I remember the queen of Tonga (Salote) visiting nearby East Palo Alto during her stay on the mainland. Such dignity. My apologies in advance, Vic, if indeed I am repeating myself.
+Jay Young She was probably the most famous of the Tongan queens and her tomb can be seen (alas, from far away) in the beginning of my video. I have said this often; if one wants to experience true Polynesian culture, then he/she must visit either Tonga and/or Samoa...
Man looking at Tonga beautifull place, specially in Nukualofa da road very straight and Tonga look flat no mountains would love to come dea for a holiday.
@@FunFireStudios Hi and thank you for your comments. I sincerely hope everyone is ok in Tonga, I was there just a couple of years ago and I was planning on going back this summer..
(Cont'd) Did I see rightly that the islanders drive a la Britannia, meaning driving on the left side, Vic? Were I ever to travel to a country where that is practiced, I think I'd refrain from trying to adopt the habit. We're creatures of habit, you see. And I fear I might get mixed up on returning to the USA. So better let well enough alone. lol!!!!!
+Jay Young lol... This is a very confusing fact when touring the Pacific... When crossing a road, one must think if this country/place/island was at one time British or not... then you have to decide which direction you have to look at for the upcoming direction if traffic.. and it gets much worse if you decide to drive!! Speaking of habit, after more than 30 years in the USA, I decided to get my English driver's license and it took me over 6 months to get used to the idea of driving on the 'other' side of the road, somehow it was very difficult for me to get used to change...
Vic Stefanu - World Travels and Adventures Thank you, Vic. Yes, we are creatures of habit. My brain is wired irretrievably to drive on the right side. Period.
i just Google mapped the island and from what i seen there is like 30+ churches on the island of Tonga. wow r they religious? also where is Jonah from Tonga?
lol.. You know, most of the people that I saw at the hotel, pronounced the name of the country the way I do here.. In any case, I loved the country!! Hope to come back one day soon!!
The place looks deserted. By the looks of it in some of these video I wondered if they were even filmed in Tonga with the lifestyle, clothing, food, socialising, singing etc. exactly the same way we do where I am. My question is why did our parents leave in the first place if they have brought us up to live exactly the same lifestyle? Some people might say money, but we are doing nothing different with our money than what they do in Tonga. Sit around, talking, entertaining ourselves singing, eating the same food and dancing
Hi and thank you for your comments. Tonga (Nuku'alofa) was a fascinating place with lots of activity going on. SOme scenes on this video were videotaped on a Sunday when everybody goes to church, thus the 'deserted' look..
+Jay Young Exactly!! I knew nothing about it until I visited this church here in Tonga!! In one of the videos I actually go inside during Sunday mass...
There are language commonalities in Polynesia, from Hawaii to Tahiti to Aoteroa. Nuku'alofa is made up of three words: Nuku, 'alo, fā. Nuku is the name of the boat (Kalia) that Taufa'ahau (Tupou I - first King of united Tonga) and his Tau Tahi (Sea Warriors) used to land in Tongatapu. 'Alo is short for 'a'alo - to row. Fā is the number of rowers they used - there were 4 rowers at a time. Where the Tau Tahi landed is where the palace was built. And the town was then called Nuku'alofa.
Tonga looks deserted and empty no colour, haha I've seen your other video in samoa Island it so much cleaner and lots of building and so colourful thanks for sharing..
This is Sunday in Tonga. Mr..We've been around the Pacific. Overall Tonga is more beautiful than your Samoa . We have about 200 Islands ,you don't have that natural setting. Cheers.

Much more churches than that
@Ms.Lauren Jonah Lomu and he's family from the Island called Ha'apai in Tonga Tapu.

Hello and thank you for viewing my videos!!
Nuku alofa is a samoan name
Ok, I did not know that!
It's spell Tonga.
Ok, thank you!!

Very deserted island roads not much to be seen except so many churches
There are a lot of beautiful natural sites..
This was taken on a sunday no shops is open and everyone is gone to church
