The original MV of this song was the one that broke Lovebites to the wider world. A common reaction was "yeah, but no way they can play this live". Boy were the doubters wrong!
Added to which Miyako (the black haided guirarist) was berween four and five months pregnant when this concert was recorded and as well as walking up and down stairs stood for two hours holding guitars weighing between 8-10lb/4.5-5.5kg and with a guitar resting nm her baby bump when playing the piano.
You are right, dangerous to have stairs on stage especially to Miyako who was pregnant in that time, but she bravely did. These ladies seems dope to performed live. Great observation friend 👍👍🤘🤘
Shadowmaker is another fantastic Miyako composition. This is the 4th track from their first album, Awakening From Abyss, in which Miyako composed 5 of the 12 tracks including the opening instrumental. Asami also did a great job with the lyrics in this song. I hope you keep your Lovebites journey going
Judas Priest. I saw them live when they toured with Iron Maiden back in 1982. These women are a match if not more than a match for either of them, and that is saying something as I am a huge fan of those bands as they were back then in their prime.
Thoroughly enjoyed that you acknowledged specifics such as 'familiar yet original' (how I describe it). Almost as if these "nostalgic" bands from 'back in the day' did a mix'n'match collaboration (4 CDs worth, with supreme virtuosity in performance!) and possibly more visually appealing? I've seen "MetalHead" reactors cite a half-dozen bands in the first 2 minutes of a song! "Even some Anthrax-y vibes 'en stuff going on" Asami's abilities, delivering in every aspect of the myriad of styles their eclectic catalogue demands. Her approach to "Metal Vocalist" suits me perfectly. Many (locals) have told me "I don't usually listen to this kind of music, but I really enjoy them." I attribute that significantly to Asami's ability to 'soften' the perception of 'metal-harshness' with her voice as well as, like "Shadowmaker" an almost ballad-pace melody over the top of M&M's hyper-tremolo-picked palm-muted arpeggiated-chords & relentless dbl-kicks & stick-tricks from Haruna, with Miho's bass thumping in perfect sync. Add Miho's & Asami's lyrics of 'facing life's challenges with self-empowerment & personal-responsibility' really enhances the broad appeal of their overall 'sound & message'. Midori & Miyako guitar interplay is unsurpassed in all my years of music appreciation. Their distinctly different styles & tones, yet finding 'common ground' for a harmony-duet in nearly every song! I also love that the "guitar solo" is often a full 'instrumental interlude' showing us a musical interpretation of the song's story, but returning to Asami to finish the song. All that plus their willingness to add the challenge of "stairs" while performing, in heels!" I'd also like to compliment you on your 'tech' side of being a 'reactor'. Visually, a generous portion given to the band while a full image of yourself, balanced quite well in full 1080p. Same with audio mix. Full dynamic stereo from video, clear voice audio, at comfortably understandable levels. Even though your mic seems far away, very 'present' in sound. I admit, I avoid a dismal presentation of this superb band. Thanks for showing them the respect they deserve. Every musician/band/performer deserves. As we don't know how soon 'new songs' might emerge with Fami on bass, I want to see some reactors give Miho some special respect with these 3 consecutive songs she wrote, performed on the Ride For Vengeance tour, from Heavy Metal Never Dies. "Trio of Miho" is "The Apocalypse > M.D.O. > Don't Bite The Dust" near segue'd. 14min. ua-cam.com/video/zZ-igJazEV0/v-deo.html Also to remind everyone, for ALL LIVE performances & songs TO DATE, Rosana Miho "founder, leader, bassist, composer, lyricist, backing-vocalist & natural-born-headbanger!" We (Wolf-Pack) have alot to THANK Miho for!
They would be right at home on stage with a lot of bands from back in the day. If I was in one of those bands and decided to tour today I would want these ladies on my tour without question!!! I appreciate all the insight im learning a lot in pretty short order! Yeah the stairs would make me nervous every night if I was their manager ..lol.. I will check that out thank you!!
Thank you for the credit for Asami's vocals. Although I'm a huge Miyako fan, this band was an amazing amalgamation of talent. Looking forward to what they can do with Fami, their new bassist. But Asami saves some of her best work for the ends of concerts. In the Zepp DiverCity concert from 2020, which you've reacted to before, one of their encore songs was Edge of the World. After belting for over an hour and a half, Asami hits you with some of the most amazing power vocals you can imagine. A truly under-rated member of a band full of virtuoso talent.
Thanks for the reaction! I suggest checking out another song from this concert. For me, these two songs are like twin sisters. They are different, but they are both damn good. She opened the concert. LOVEBITES "When Destinies Align"(" Heavy Metal Never Dies", Live in Tokyo, March 2021)
Yes, I hear some Judas Priest inspiration in this too, especially in the bridge riff before the solo part. People who say that Asami is a mediocre singer have no clue. That's some power, stamina and precision right there, in fact, I know no better Japanese female metal singer (Fuki and Azuru/Regan are not bad each in their own way, and Saiki is a capable rock singer, but the rest that I've heard... meh). I love her glass-shattering high belts. I've often heard her compared to a female Bruce Dickinson, I think that's a good comparison.
ASAMI really shines when she sings in Japanese. Check out her vocal performance on the original recording of BRAVEHEARTED, on the LOVEBITES EP. You hit it on the head. The best Japanese bands are taking old sounds and making them fresh with their new interpretations of classic genres. BAND-MAID and NEMOPHILA are great at this. LOVEBITES declared early on that they were inspired to play in the style of IRON MAIDEN. In certain songs I also hear SLAYER and TESTAMENT.
Great react and analysis, glad you did it. The MV is great to, u should check it out offline. Love when Midori and Miyako harmonize! They are so tight live! Look forward to more Lovebites reactions! The Awakening / Hammer of Wrath live next maybe?? Couldn't imagine someone falling down the stairs, yikes!🤘🐺
LOVEBITES - Shadowmaker lyrics: Caught in the noise, my thoughts are destroyed Trapped in the silence, it's so hard to breathe But still I go on, my hunger is strong Hoping that someone will grab my hand Stranded by moonlight I realize the cold of this world Maybe it's too late? No one can save me From all of the darkness and solitude Cry, like shadows of the night I carry all the pain inside to justify why I'm alive Despite going through this hell Cause still my heart has hope No matter if I'm torn apart, I'll play my part Before I drown with secret thoughts of my heart Reckless and fast, how long will I last? Dancing like puppets, I'm empty inside Fighting the fear, and grieving the dear Hoping that someday I'll be repaid Only my echoing heartbeats can prove that I'm here Am I all alone? Even a faint light is too bright for me, I can't see a thing Hide, in shadows I reside I tremble like a heartless soul, no place to go In desolated land knowing no escape But still I wish to live Just waiting for a somebody to notice me Before I fall down to depths of the abyss SOLO: midori / mi-ya / both / miya Caught in the noise, my thoughts are destroyed Trapped in the silence, it's so hard to breathe But still I go on, my hunger is strong Hoping that someone will grab my hand Stranded by moonlight I realize the cold of this world Maybe it's too late? I really, really dig your insights and reflections, especially on bands like Lovebites, a true gem of a band that are masters of their craft. Like you, I just recently discovered this band and they've blown my mind on many levels. I can't understand how these petit ladies play sets that comprise like 18 high-energy songs in concerts that exceed 2 hours ... and in heels! Two masterpieces that you should check out are Swan Song (with the Chopin intro) ua-cam.com/video/dcMVtrvpJpk/v-deo.html and Frozen Serenade ua-cam.com/video/Ae8pQVu-RN8/v-deo.html . You are probably the only one who noticed how hard it was for Miyako & Midori to play the guitar while wearing high heels and going down the stairs. Miyako was 4-5 months pregnant at the time. Miyako's mental strength is steel metal.
This band has such a cool old school feel, amazing musicians all around!! 🔥 Haruna on drums is just an absolute killer!! You have done a few thrash tracks, so im gonna suggest a slower song just to give you another side of this band if you feel like it! Empty Daydream - ua-cam.com/video/lXh_uMM94jU/v-deo.html They are known for their shredding but they can get you in the feels too!! 🤘🐺🤘

As a 63 year old I can take one origin of this piece back to 1978. Below is a link to the legends that are Ronnie James Dio and Ritchie Blackmore. “Gates of Babylon”. Listen to the Middle Eastern scales used. Shadowmaker uses them (a little modified and vastly speeded up). I don’t think the connection is deliberate, nor is it tenuous. Miyako’s mother (Miyako wrote the piece) used to play a lot of Deep Purple and Rainbow when she was growing up. I’ve heard it said (but not seen it myself) that Ritchie is one of many guitarists that have influenced her. Interestingly I think his biggest influence is her much commented stoicism on stage! ua-cam.com/video/qu8HiZepRWo/v-deo.html
You're not wrong 😃. She seems to have got more stoic as time goes on, bless her. I hope she's having fun though. Blackmore was a bit of a prankster behind the scenes. I wonder if Miyako is? She did do that bit with the key-tar.
@@marks5451 I’m certain her straight faced delivery is down to Ritchie. She would do more tricks too but can’t because they must play to a click track because of the background symphonies. Midori may be all energy and poses, but she’s more mechanical than Miyako. I’d love to see her let rip on something like Mistreated (with the band…I’d love to see what Asami could do with old school rock) The other major thing on my wish list is to see her let loose on a Hammond C3!
i really appreciate that the backing tracks at their shows are kept to a minimum. sometimes it's miyako's piano , sometimes it is mao's synth and occasionally some choral arrangements notably glory to the world or swan song. it is added where it is needed and gives the song the extra boost as in the recorded version. but it never sounds out of place.
Midori and Miyako's favorite song to play! 🤘

This outstanding song is becoming a metal classic. Those guitar solos by Midori and Miyako are jaw-dropping.

LOVEBITES - Shadowmaker lyrics:
Caught in the noise, my thoughts are destroyed
Trapped in the silence, it's so hard to breathe
But still I go on, my hunger is strong
Hoping that someone will grab my hand
Stranded by moonlight I realize the cold of this world
Maybe it's too late?
No one can save me
From all of the darkness and solitude
Cry, like shadows of the night
I carry all the pain inside to justify why I'm alive
Despite going through this hell
Cause still my heart has hope
No matter if I'm torn apart, I'll play my part
Before I drown with secret thoughts of my heart
Reckless and fast, how long will I last?
Dancing like puppets, I'm empty inside
Fighting the fear, and grieving the dear
Hoping that someday I'll be repaid
Only my echoing heartbeats can prove that I'm here
Am I all alone?
Even a faint light is too bright for me, I can't see a thing
Hide, in shadows I reside
I tremble like a heartless soul, no place to go
In desolated land knowing no escape
But still I wish to live
Just waiting for a somebody to notice me
Before I fall down to depths of the abyss
