      Mac os has a very wierd scaling and due to that reason 32inch 4k display does affect your performance . And it is quite visible performance hit if you are into graphic intensive work...
      Watch this video it explains much better than I could explain in the comment section here.. hope it helps

      Hi Jovis. Yes, I am aware of the way Mac OS scales. I had already watched the video you linked as well. I am currently running a 4K display for my MacBook and haven’t seen any noticeable difference in performance. Lightroom, Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator are very responsive without any lag or performance issues that I can see. Thank you for the heads up though as some people, like yourself, may notice the issue and have it bother them.

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  2 роки тому

      The reason why it is based on this ua-cam.com/video/OmY89orgzuQ/v-deo.html the intro talks about scaling and resolution. This said the M series chip are much better than intel and will run into way less issues but it is not issue free. The thing is that 5K scaling does almost the same thing, you are pushing more pixels out. Apple computer since the retina displays came out have been pushing the GPU to the brink of what is possible. This said, a lot of people tend to forget that the M series chip has a Display Engine on the chip in addition to the GPU that helps with this load as well.

    • @murdockscott
      @murdockscott 2 роки тому

      @@jovisjoseph The person who posted that often mentioned video is running a 13inch M1 MacBook Pro, I am not sure anyone running a M1 Pro/Max/Ultra or even an M2 would notice or complain about the scaling slowdown. I have never seen actual data on what to expect as far as a performance hit. Meanwhile a huge number of professionals use 4k monitors on macs. I am shopping for monitors and I am only interested in 32inch color accurate monitors, so if I go for more that 4k, that limits me to what the $6000 Apple offering or a couple of even more expensive choices? No thanks, I will take my chances with one of the many 32inch 4k monitors on the market that offer great color accuracy.

    Thank you, i bought this monitor for my M1 macbook pro. I am not sure why i have these issues
    -There is an option to choose USB Configuration in the menu
    if i choose USB C 3 GEN1, the full screen play back of any video will be stopped after some seconds and system will stop working. The SSD speed i can achieve through the the usb c port on the side of the monitor will be half of the speed of a normal usb c port on M1 MacBook and USB A port is almost useless in terms of speed.
    - If i choose USB 2 option in the menu, the fulll screen error will be gone and both USB ports on the side of the monitor is really slow.

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  Місяць тому +1

    I just bought the PD3205UA. I have it hooked up to my Mac Studio running Ventura. I can’t get it to connect to my Mac. All I get is the “please press the monitor button to select correct input source”. Which one is the monitor button? There’s nothing that indicates what the monitor button is in the brief setup manual. I can’t connect either by hdmi or usb-c. If a product is this difficult to set up in 2023, shouldn’t this be revisited and corrected? I mean, WTF?

    Having just received y BenQ 3205u display I can say setup is not for the faint at heart. The Quick Start guide supplied was insufficient for me to get a working display with my M1 14” MacBook Pro using USB C to USB C connection. This is my first use of an external display; I am mostly unfamiliar with the many port connections available on an external monitor. My first attempt showed the MacBook recognized the BenQ as a connected device. I could see it in the Display panel. In the Preferences/Display panel when I selected the BenQ, the MacBook display dimmed and the BenQ display said “no cable connected”. So I’m left with a dimmed MacBook screen and a non-working BenQ display. No way to control anything. We if I turned off the BenQ the MacBook came alive and showed only its display screen.
    Contacted BenQ support who replied quickly I power cycle the display along with checking all the connection, something I already did. Power cycle did nothing, They did inform me that the display does not auto detect a signal, so you must manually using the five-way controller cycle through the three available inputs. That did the trick, the screen displayed the Mac screen. Nothing in the Quick Start guid suggests this choosing the BenQ input step necessary. Did easily find the full manual on the internet, someone essential to understanding this display.
    Once I had a working display I found the text too small for my vision. By adjusting the screen resolution I did get an adequate text size at the expense of a less than full screen. I do need to gain a better understanding of the resolution adjustment. I did a quick Lightroom edit i and am very happy with the display image and its color compared to the MacBook. I understand the BenQ has many additional ports, but at the moment don’t have an understanding of “upstream” and “downstream” when describing a port. I would like to connect to my Epson P600 printer using a USB B cable between the monitor and printer. Can I do that?
    To summarize I think that customers unfamiliar with external monitors will struggle to get this working. Better instructions are needed. Also the the provided base is quite sharp. I cut myself trying to position the screen to insert cables, which are in an awkward location. The base has sharp edges, enough that I only recognized the cut when blood appeared on the Starter Guide.
    Still I’m hoping this reasonably priced monitor will suit all my needs for editing photos.

  • @ronboe6325
    @ronboe6325 2 роки тому

    Having had to set up hundreds of similar Dell monitors; I'd add the cables first, clip in the stand (all while the screen is still flat and with the protective plastic covering on) then, using the stand strut as a handle, flip it upright and remove the protective plastic. Made computer setup easier, faster and safer from finger prints. However; perhaps not as friendly for videoing for UA-cam. :D
    Also; back then, about half the computers still used VGA so access to the thumb screws was a real PITA unless the screen was facing down.

    One thing I am wondering about, which I don't find any information about, is if it's possible to daisy chain a second monitor from the PD3205U. I am not looking for the KVM feature as I am only using one computer, but I would love to avoid the extra cables as daisy chaining keeps things so much cleaner. Can the DP port on the monitor be used as an output port to a second monitor, or is the DP strictly an in port? Would be great to get some info on this. Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the "Preview!" Very promising.
    Question: I've seen a couple videos that say running 4K monitors from Mac Studio Ultra has diminishing returns due to refresh rate (I believe). "They" say that the Studio lineup just can't push the 4K signals properly and you can't take advantage of true 4K (I'm thinking 4K video, in this case).
    Any thoughts?

      I don't know what those videos are talking about. I'm able to get 4K 60 Hz on these display without issues. Without knowing the specific that the others are referring to, I am unable to comment further. I don't think that it is an issue in daily used. I have been using the Mac Studio with 2 4k displays and it works just fine. Some one is always going to find something to complain about ;)

    I just got my BenQ PD3205U monitor and everything is fine except one thing. I am really concerned about color temperature of my monitor. When I put PD3205U to another IPS screen that my laptop has, the colors on PD3205U look way warmer. You can really see the difference between whites in interface on the monitor and on my laptop screen. So what is right? Are color really supposed to be that way and my laptop screen is the one, who had colder color tones than my new monitor? Since the monitor is Calman color calibrated from factory, I suppose it should be that way, but may be there's a mislead in calibration? I just wanted to double check.

      All of them are compatible with Mac really. You should know that I am BenQ global ambassador for their pro display line. However, I'm not preferring their display because of this. I prefer them because of the calibration that they do to these panel at the factory. BenQ Pro line both SW and PD are rigorously calibrated compared to other brands and that is why I prefer them. PD2705U is a good display. Another thing to note is that BenQ display is matted and others including LG will most of the time lean toward glossy. Glossy display will always show more color and contrast, it will make what you view looks flattering, however, it is not necessary accurate. And that is something to be aware of. If you are a pro or dapple in the creative arts, having a matted display is generally better because what you are seeing is honest and if you can get images to pop on matted display, it will look amazing on glossy as well. But the reverse is not always guaranteed. Hope this helps. If you have any follow up question please Start a new comment this way I'll see it.

      for sRGB and REC 709 it is 1% but for P3 color space you are looking at lower double digits. TB3 will also allow you to daisy chin another display to the PD3220U something at PD3205U Can't. In your opinion, for video and photo editing, is there much difference between an 8BIT panel and an 8BIT + FRC (10BIT) panel? From what I read on the net it would seem that an 8BIT panel shows a lower chromatic scale than an 8BIT + FRC one.

      PD2705U is an entry model, primary the variation between this and the higher end model comes down to color gamut coverage, 99% sRGB vs 95%+ P3 in the higher end model and connectivity. This one use USB C, where as the PD2727U uses Thunderbolt when you can do display daisy chain on supported computer. Otherwise, they both can show great colors and etc. This is also the variation in the price point as well.

      Like I said, mostly it has to do with the P3 coverage. Will you see this in person, may be, but it would be hard to tell. This would be something that you look at the spec based on what you need. What you might see is that the PD2725U has more saturation in P3 Gamut compared to PD2705U. But I would look at the need vs budget when considering this.

    Hi, I am trying to decide between PD3205U and PD3220U. I know that PD3220U support 95% P3 color space and you can daisy chain 2 more 4K monitors with that display - but in my workflow i do not need that. My confusion is the aesthetic look : is PD3205U Stand made of metal or it's plastic? And is there any other major difference between PD3220U & PD3205U. Also PD3220U is a 2 year old monitor while PD3205U is a new release. I tried searching whole internet but no one has made a comparison video among PD3205U and PD3220U model. PD3205U stand has a metal core and plastic over lay. Color gamut would be one of the variation in addition to the connectivity and display placement PD3205U entry, PD3220U Premium. Had not make a comparisons yet, Either one will work with Mac studio. 2 years old is 2 years old, it really means nothing because you are still get a display that was manufacture recently from the factory. It is not like you are getting a stock 2 years old display. The panel and connection has not changed at all in the past 2-3 years when it comes to LCD ISP LED Backlight.
