- A total of 1,208 Porsche 911s of all varieties took to the circuit at Silverstone to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the model. The plan to produce a parade of 911 x 911s was easily broken with the new record standing for the largest number of the machines in one place together.
Full press release:
A glittering parade of more than 1200 Porsche 911s took to the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit earlier today (28 July) -- a world record number of the machines -- as the Silverstone Classic celebrated the 50th anniversary of the world's most iconic sportscar.
In the spirit of being the biggest and best classic motor racing event in the world, the plan to produce a parade of 911 x 911s was almost immediately exceeded when the celebrations were announced, with registrations building hugely in the months leading up to the event. Records are there to be broken, however, so rather than settling for the initial target, organisers manage to squeeze an incredible 1208 of the Porsches on to a packed circuit -- creating a breathtaking sight in the process!
The sensational spectacle, which raised funds for the Hope for Tomorrow cancer charity, was led by a number of famous Porsche legends as tens of thousands of fans watched on.
Mark Porsche, son of 911 designer Ferdinand 'Butzi' Porsche and great-grandson of the marque's original founder, Ferdinand Porsche, got proceedings underway and he was joined by a number of the sportscar manufacturer's most successful racing drivers.
Former F1 driver and five-time Le Mans winner Derek Bell MBE drove a 911 as part of the parade and Richard Attwood -- winner of the Le Mans 24 Hours for Porsche in 1970 -- was also on hand to pilot another 911. Porsche owners made up the remainder of the wonderful convoy culminating in the remarkable world record number of 911s. Other notable legends taking part in the parade included John Fitzpatrick and David Piper.
Since its launch at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963, the 911 has been at the heart of the Porsche brand with more than 820,000 having been built in the proceeding five decades -- making it the most successful sportscar in the world.
The 911 was committed to the performance principle from the start, and motor racing is its most important test lab. Many of the ideas and technologies that made their debut in the Porsche 911 were conceived on the race track. No fewer than two thirds of the 30,000 race victories achieved by Porsche around the world to date have been recorded by the 911.
Today's incredible parade -- organised by the Porsche Club GB and Silverstone Classic -- included the most famous models from past and present, such as legendary Carrera, RS, RSR, GT, Speedster, Targa and Turbo variants. To this day the idolised 911 is also one of the most popular and victorious competition cars ever created and the dazzling on-track pageant also featured a plethora of winners from both racing and rallying.
Mark Porsche said: "Of course the 911 means a great deal to me as it's my father's big design and it will always have a special place in my heart. It's a family member over all the generations of the 911 series and I'm very proud to be here today to represent the Porsche family at this great event. I think that to have these 1200 cars on track is the attention that the 911 deserves for its 50th birthday. I can't thank the Porsche Club GB enough for making this event possible."
Derek Bell said: "It's because of the 911 that Porsche had the financial resources to go racing and create the history of the 917, 956, 962 and all the wins that we had around the world with all my fabulous team-mates. Porsche did a heck of a lot for me so to be here in this parade driving around my home track Silverstone is a great honour."
Thanks for watching, Tim

Well done and thank you SHMEE, It was a great day to be part of the history of the 911 !! Especially when we got the chance to drive the Silverstone circuit !
Well recognised, I love it!
NIce video. I was in the parade, it was a great day but the parade went so fast after waiting around for hours! Nice video, nice to see you have learned to keep your camera still!
The 911 is a legend!! Thanks Shmee!
Great day, was there myself but 1/2 the day was spent waiting to get on the parade lap. Not the most organised of days but was well worth the wait, an iconic moment for the brand and enjoyed the dive.... Luckily, I had to wait < 2 mins to see myself! :)
Is the record for a single-car gathering? I know there was 900+ Ferraris, has there ever been 1000 other than this? Good video as always Tim :)
This is the only video I've came across so far that needs UA-cam's fast forward video player feature. Yet there isn't the option!
Only twelve 993 convertibles. A rare breed that's on my hit list.
Great video, my dad loved it ;) Wearing the 2012 gumball 3000 jacket?
It must have been a magnificent site to see, all of the Porsche's driving. :')
I just got my daily dose of Porsche
Great video!
Pretty cool to see the GT1
I feel like that dog with hundreds of tennis balls
Yes it is. It is the model number that Porsche uses in the factory. Wikipedia Porsche 911 997.
Tim are you going to Car Fest this year? I have tickets to CarFest North myself
That's awesome!! Were there any accidents?? lol
nice work shmee
respect to all these guys
Nope! That blue Prosche at the Essen-Motor-Show was a Wimmer Performance GT2 RS! This one at 00:15 is a light blue GT3 RS
happy to be stuck in traffic with this many porches
A time lapse of this would look good
A 997 is a type of 911. 911 is 993s, 996s and 997s. That is why there are 997s in there and why there is 993s and 996s. A 997 speedster is a 911 but they might not have had one at Silverstone at that moment. So a 997 is a 911
It's actually just the same 50 cars going around again, but nobody could tell the difference between them.
amazing how quiet it is
Clarkson would love this.
How many bhp in total ? Shmee?
and 0 Boxsters and 0 Caymans and 0 Cayennes...
Doesn't look like much fun...kind of like a LA or Boston commute. But still cool that they did it.
If you can read... 1208 Porsche 911s not 1208 porsches...
A peep into the perfect world, all cars Porsches. Shame on you guys swearing like that. God loves you too.
Come to Stavanger in Norway! Every other car here is Panamera :P It's called the Porsche capital of Norway ^^
My mind is blown.
What Porsche? Where?
Look at the grey porsche in the middle around 1:00 it looks like it is just floating along.
What if someone rocked up in a Singer 911, would they let them in?
Shmee150 finally filming some Porsche... Well he didn't have the choice...
Is this what heavan looks and sounds like :O
.... HOLY MOTHER OF MOSES!!!..
Lovely
Nice !!!
Oh, that's why they win "Car of the year" awards every single year? And that's why they have the best chassis ever in a car? And that's why Turbo S is the 2nd fastest accelerating car ever?
+You are probably 9 and don't even know history behind the 911 design. And why don't they change the design? Because there is a rule: "Don't change perfection"
There was a 911 in there somewhere
sd tzhe title says: 1208 Porsche 911s....
whoa hold da fuck up, I see a Gran Turismo Porsche...
Is this a sign of things to come?
2:33, the green one is my uncle
I was going to go to bed but, you know...
an amazing display of the worlds most iconic sportscar........
a very boring lap for the participants however- 40mph at Silverstone?
It's not the same cars dude, they are in silverstone, this track isn't so short...
my sort of heaven.... GT SILVER 996 C4S!!!!
They should have had 911 Porsche 911's instead of 1208
That's a good thing.
You see that Porche 911 there? That ones mine.
If you look closely you'll see a Porsche 911
PORSCHE PARTY!!!!!

all I see are Beetles
1208 of the exact same car... lmao
Oh, and by the looks of things , your comments were thumbed down many times. So guess who's wrong in this argument? Yes, you are.

"24:23 Mins Waste Of My Life Time Porsches Just Keep Coming"!!!
Someone should have slipped in in a VW Beetle, see if anyone noticed!
Jeremy Clarkson´s torture video would look like this.. :D
I tried to watch the whole thing but got bored after 6 mins or so.
Jesus, have a word with yourself
0:58 silver one xD
maybe there is none because a 997 is not the same as a 911?

Jeremy Clarkson wasn't there..
Beetle Festival

I like the german car there lol.
not a single flatnose, dafuq
I wonder how many overheated LOL.
And no two the same model type... ;)
Holy shit
Well, nice to see a kid trying to teach to me history. You've been watching too much Top Gear (J. Clarkson). 911's have stopped understeering since the 996 gen. rolled out. I respect your opinion, but next time try not to insult a car before you know anything about it.
and 0 918 XD
all porsche's look the same
and 0 Carrera GT
Omg
lol
