This song hit us like a sledgehammer around feb 1991, in a month it was exam time and this song was like an earworm, refusing to get out.. the sheer scale, extravagant orchestration, tongue in cheek music arrangement and the opulent mounting. .. it was difficult to believe that this song was created for another film and recycled and used here.. looks like Mukul Anand knew what to do withi this song.. Her character was named jumma to accommodate the song and not the other way around. This song was recorded way before the actual shoot schedules, for a different movie by Ramesh Sippy, ‘Ram Ki Seeta Shyam Ki Geeta’ starring Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi, the film didn't materialise, The song ‘Jumma Chumma’ had been originally created for this film and would have been picturized on Amitabh and Sridevi. With the film now abandoned, the song was later used in Hum. Saroj Khan shares the idea behind the original number: ‘The sequence had Amitabh as a cop catching a pickpocket Sridevi red-handed. When she asks what she can bribe him with, he asks for a chumma.’ In fact a live show in Wembley London was done in 1990 where amitabh Bachchan danced on the song with sridevi.. It had such a big impact that Mukul Anand ensured that this song became the centrepiece of the movie.

I still remember that my father caught me in cinema hall as I gone Cinema in place of my school . It was Amitabh hit comeback to Films in 1991 and I watch this movie twice because of this song only. Now I am 46 year old and my son is 16 year old sharing this incident. He was enjoying that his father also get scolded at his age. Missing that era of 1990s, lovely memories and no technology can replace that excitement of cinema that time.
