There is a piece of real estate within my heart that Sinead owns. Such a brave heart. The cruelty she endured, it hurts me so much. A mother being horrible to her daughter is the worse thing there is. I pray, I pray, I pray that’s she’s enjoying the afterlife and at peace. I listen to her songs every week. I love her so much.
This live is awesome!! I'm 35 yo, rocker and metalhead, i'm crying since yesterday like a child for the loss of the most beautiful voice and one of the best artist in the universe! Rest in peace Sinead!
I remember hearing this song when it first came out in 1987. I was around 16 or 17 at the time. It was the video version of the song and the first time I saw what she looked like as well. I was totally mesmerized. The intensity and emotion in her voice. Her eyes. The buzzed hair. She was so beautiful!
RIP the incomparable Sinead O'Connor. Binge watching videos now that I've learned she's gone. I'm continually amazed at her power. She is everywhere now. May she be at peace.
I've been binge watching Sinéad since 1988. Have seen her live several times. Always amazing. So sad to know she is not with us. Happy to know she is now singing with the Angels where she belongs.
May she be at peace also, Maker willing...However when I shorthand RIP going forward it will be to signify Rest In Play. That is the part of Sinead that should never get lost. She was a creative "Player." In the best human sense, honoring the mysteries we mortals lack the infinite capacity to understand, much less consider the BIG PICTURE. If you think of the act of play as being full of childish Id, it needn't be when grown-ups learn to play for the highest stakes possible in human sense of the verb. Go back to a matriarch of Sinead's, Z"L who also perished too darn young, from the same cervical cancer her mother Z"L had at the same age her mother perished from it. Go back to Laura Nyro Z"L and especially her song "Serious Playground." Listen in the context of Nyro's too short recording and performing career (even though she began in high school at age 17, with her first LP on Verve containing songs that women of age\experience\stature were racing to interpret. Such as "And When I Die," "Poverty Train," or "The Confession..." Consider the buoyant spirit of "Stoned Soul Picnic," or wisely playful "Flim Flam Man," or most potent and resonant of my childhood hometown neighborhood and environs, "(On A Street Called) Buy and Sell." And then Laura Nyro's own Jewish gospel tune from her mother's side of the family, "Eli's Coming." Each of these from her teen-age pen and old-soul's depths. I'd love to be sitting somewhere in the AfterLife's Green Room as Sinead and Laura share a piano bench and harmonize over their own Song & Play books! "Serious Playground" indeed!!! She was a force of nature. The first time I heard her, I was forever changed. I was 10 when The Lion and The Cobra came out. We lost a very close person to my family at that time, and it helped me process that loss. I still play Just Like You Said It Would Be on solo shows. I wish that she could have meant as much to herself as she did to so many of us...at least enough to keep living. Her music lives on, and is still a beacon for what music can be.
That howl is amazing and Sinead is uncomparable, AND, don’t speak about what any other woman can do, as if you can tell… Cause women AND men are unmeasurably creative and unlimited, so if any limitations exist in your mind or the collective mind, at least don’t believe them or speak them as the truth.
I've watched this over and over again since I came across this Sinead's Live Version. We All knew that Sinead Was A Phenomenal Female Musician Song Writer Legend. But this is Raw Talent Which Now We Realise How Sinead O'Connor Is An Icon In her own league. 🥲🥲🥲🥲.
I remember dancing to this in a nightclub in West Germany, just after the Wall came down. It had just come out and people might not think of her like that, but she had number of awesome club songs, like this. But different from what one might have normally called a club hit, like Mandinka, I want your Hands on Me was crazy! This was at a time when Souxie Souix, Bow Wow Wow, The Stray Cats, Toni Childs, I mean there was some great stuff coming out. Kate Bush was the Supreme Goddess, no doubt, but Sinead was the Celtic Princess, the Lost Princess, sometimes the Forgotten Daughter, in remembrance of her pain. But she was mighty and full of power, right up until the end, I'm sure. I loved her, and I very much wanted to see, and hear her again. I'm sorry that I lost touch with her over the last few years, but I was raising kids and just got wrapped up in my own life. I'm so sorry that she didn't get to get bsck out on the road and see how many people still lover her! I've loved this song since the album first came out. I saw her in Boston in what might have been one of her first stops on her first American tour. It was a good size nightclub, the Paradise, the kind of place that might hold 1000 people, maybe a bit less. It was stunning, she voice was magical!
Haven't heard this song in over 20 years! Came here when I heard the sad news. My favorite song of hers. One of my favorite songs all together. My God, I forgot how beautiful she was!
It's a shame that I've only discovered how talented Sinead was after her death. I never knew. She was obviously too individualistic and intelligent for the dumb record industry.
Em vida Sinead O'Connor duz: "Artistas mortos...venden mais que os vivos"...ela já sabia que após sua morte ia ser venerada, todos s fragelando...era excelente além de bela!😮
She never ceases to surprise me. I'd never seen this video before and never seen her rock like this. And stunningly beautiful. She will probably become an even bigger star after her death. A movie about her life will be powerful.
*"!only I can play her" i must have written once, i think some?where on youtube / right after her death someone commented on that, but i can´t find it / maybe i should consult the stars / it seems like one of them has become to me some kind of friend / her name is Drew*
I was 18 when this video was made. The Lion & the Cobra was one of the first albums I ever bought. I feel like I am still in a state of mourning over the loss of Chris Cornell, Chester Benningfield, Anthony Bourdain, and others in the last few years. Gen X has taken some hard hits recently. RIP Royalty.
i was 19 and in the US Army. My 1st job was at a record store. Lion&The Cobra was the 1st CD I ever bought, followed by Tracy Chapman. We had promotional posters for Lion&The Cobra my last year of high school&this super cool New Wave girl named Candy Blank(her REAL name!)asked me for one.

I've always found this to be one of her best songs due to the enormeous variety displayed vocally, the instrumental backing and just the overall post-punkyness of it. This must've had an influence on The Cranberries, who released their debut album three years later.
