When will this be available
With gas price soaring, would be nice to have gas buddy on carplay so I can find cheap gas safely. I dont care who does it, I want it available!
Would be pretty cool for them to add a super simplified car play for smaller displays like in the 2019 mustang or other cars with normal displays. Don’t know if it’s possible, but it seems like a cool idea for people who don’t have big screens
Yeah, I’ve got a 2018 ford escape with a smaller screen, but I’d like to put a map on it or something
This is mainly being geared towards new cars and cars in the future as screens get bigger.
Hopefully it supports with the bigger infotainment and the bigger LED gauge cluster
Kind of like how the old androids used to be in child mode? Have like just 4 core app icons available and the immediate data of your music or GPS directions on the bottom. It would be nice for those of us who don’t do well with overstimulation as well
Coming from a Samsung person, this looks absolutely amazing and would love to try this
Normal CarPlay is the best UI for cars already. This updated version is going to be the best.
I would assume that the same auto manufacturers will give Android Auto the opportunity to use their APIs for dashboard display also. As a Mac and iPhone person, I would still prefer CarPlay, though.
It's December 2023 and no automaker has announced a new car with the next-generation of CarPlay. What's going on?
To be honest, it would just be nice for current cars to be able to update the hardware to have wireless CarPlay. It’s a hardware issue we’re Bluetooth alone cannot handle the data of CarPlay.
But, to ask everyone to get a dongle (which is still a wire) is skipping over a bunch of people.
Future features are nice but Apple always skips basic asks.
New vehicles do have wireless CarPlay it’s just older models that require connection
This comment seems to have a fundamental misunderstanding.
Car manufacturers are the ones to blame for having poorly implemented CarPlay experiences. Most manufacturers don’t offer upgrades for older car stereo systems, they want you to buy a new car. And if that new car is lacking the most recent features, such as wireless CarPlay, then the manufacturer takes that responsibility for choosing not to adopt the latest features or offer hardware updates.
Also buying a wireless CarPlay dongle is almost certainly a lot cheaper than getting an entire new car stereo with the proper hardware inside. If you really care about “having a wire” get a new car.
But the craziest thing about your statement is that Apple doesn’t “ask” anyone to get a wireless CarPlay dongle! It works with a lighting cable perfectly fine! 3 seconds to plug in a phone is hardly an ask. It takes longer just for the car stereo to turn itself on.
Am I missing something here, surely if you're using CarPlay wirelessly connected for long periods of time especially on Google maps etc then surely it will flatten the phone battery in no time. So surely a cable need to be connected to keep phone charged to re charging while driving.?
Is this only for new cars. Or will existing cars with display dashboard screen. I already have CarPlay but my dashboard is a screen with Audi UI.
Just got an iPhone is this going to work on 2019 models
Me and my 2011 SUV are shedding tears that we won't be able to experience this :( Here's hoping my next car will get some of these cool features.

So would my current apple car play work like this too????
Will Kia / Hyundai get this as well? I really hope so
@@sko1beer Don't think all of this does tho, as the cars need to allow CarPlay to access all the main functions of the car and as they said, cars will be announced later this year, yes they will eventually but won't be the first adopters.
Not working properly. I have to re-establish the connection every time I use it. I drive a 2022 Tucson.
The real question is… will this work with older models? Say 2020-21, or just new cars coming out?
So what if I have an aftermarket double din in a older car with car play will it change

Honest a car play app where we can get the same screen but on our iPhone for people that don’t have touch screens in there car
Honestly glad porsche is on the list, curious to see how it'll be integrated as the gauge screen is 2 separate screens flanking a analog tachometer. Though alternatively might only be available in the Porsche Taycan (electric car) which has a single uninterrupted screen as its gauge cluster :/. I guess we will see.
I doubt my 2022 Q5 will have anything cool with this update. I guess I’ll buy a 2024 i4 to take advantage of this update.
@@djellz5068 if it works with the 2019 and newer cayennes it'll probably work with the 2017+ Panameras and 2020+ 911's as they have nearly identical gauge clusters. Porsche has always been good on supporting their cars even offering to retrofit classic 911 with apple carplay so I have hope they'll do something with the 991.2 but almost certain they do things for the current generation of cars with that split gauge cluster.

@@benbranca The CarPlay interface is already being rendered by your iPhone; your car merely acts as an external monitor. In my limited knowledge of how all this works, I imagine the iPhone only needing to be fed car status information (i.e., speed, temperature, etc.) and using that to create a unique render for the digital gauge. I imagine the only complexity is cars that do not utilize their infotainment systems to manage or keep an eye on climate settings, and instead use separate controllers. In that case, I think Apple should simply omit that function for those cars. In theory, this should take the load off the car's own processor, as the iPhone will be doing all the heavy lifting, and might save the need for more extensive hardware.
I would guess that would be technically possible with existing cars that support car play, but not via usb.
I would think it may be possible from utilising the OBD2 Port for the data from the car to be routed to the phone
So do i have to buy a new car? Just bought my new car nissan almera 2022 vl n-sport
Good for Apple, they let Google and others get a jump on them, by getting more into the digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen systems in vehicles, I would want to see how crisp the digital cluster is and what about the heads-up display (HUD) or argument reality, I still have a lot of questions though
If you notice, Apple always lets the little guys go first.. real simple formula, "show the world what you have, then we'll finish blowing them away.. "
But I think as people wake up to what privacy actually means, especially now that apps have to beg iPhone users for more access instead of just being able to take it *Zuckerberg*, I think people will either demand more, or just continue to switch to Apple instead of Android, Ring, Nest or any other company matter fact, they all should be giving those devices away with the way they handle privacy and data..
Most of us don't even have google as default search engine anymore so much data.. pretty much just a price issue now, Apple will leave a hole in your pockets once you're in the ecosystem..
wait so only new cars will have this feature or will unit update for all cars that have screens
The idea is probably to make it where you can customize your car to make it more you, like how you can with the Apple Watch and the Lock Screen with iOS 16 on iPhone

Honestly, as an Apple fan, yeah it looks great. But Apple apps itself does not work well with the iDrive of BMW or MBUX of Mercedes. I think car brands will make this an option, otherwise their Marketing Managers should be fired. The systems of different brands are their USP. Would be foolish to change everything to Apple.
All that is part of apple CarPlay system when it is being used, while not being used the car will just be in the normal default. Not everyone uses apple CarPlay even when they have an iPhone so all of those features are only there when wanted and apple CarPlay is turned on. if not they will be turned off and the car will run like normal from the factory.
I paid 35k jpy to use carplay wired on my mbux and I don’t use it much since mbux is badly integrated into GLC screen.
It should be free
This is not for current CarPlay enabled cars.
Apple carplay to gain control of the car's telemetry ... it would be a great UX boost but probably strategic suicide for the automakers. So I expect a lot of defences.

For the majority of people this isn't something they'll be able to use for another 5-10 years due to how slowly the infotainment systems seem to be updated on economy cars, and the fact that most people aren't going to changing their vehicle to a brand new car all that frequently
Or the fact they almost never update current infotainment. You pretty much always have to buy the newest model year to get anything new.
That’s the part that’s making me kind of sad. I don’t think our Honda Oddesy 2020 will get it, guess I’ll get used to CarPlay for a longer time.
i swear our phones are way better than the infotainment systems in current economic cars. The phones most people have nowadays can probably single handedly do all of this if they let the phones do all the processing.
i have carplay in my car but i rather use buetooth. bluetooth is much more stable when you hear music. in carplay i have a ton of interrupts and playback failures
It would be nice if they updated their system to have Netflix and UA-cam, but only when parked like a Tesla.

I’m assuming this has to be granted special permission of some sort from the PCM/ECU? If they wish to get that technical with it. Unless the radio itself is going to be heavily integrated into the CAN bus system.
When will this start
Surprised they haven’t released it on BMWs already seen as they have an ongoing partnership

I really hope this isn’t something only for 2023 model year and beyond cars
Nope, it’s just an upgrade to add more functionalities from your phone to the car! Other manufacturers already uses android OS for their cars for example polestar
It’s very likely that most manufactures will not provide software upgrades or support for older models. There may also be hardware limitations.
@@alanmay7929 She implies the system is going to be able to make changes to vehicle telemetry meaning that the radio itself must be deeply tied into the CAN BUS system of the car. Even then, how does CarPlay even get OBDII access anyway? Unless I’m missing something.
The new functions works on older 2020 vehicle?
Part of a cars "personality" is the instrument cluster, the switches, the gauges etc. Allowing Apple to homogenise a very important part of the cars personality is a little strange, So I get into a Porsche or a Lamborghini and the cluster looks the same? More-so it feels the same. Not sure this is a step in the right direction.
You misunderstand, CarPlay only works when you plug your iPhone directly into a car that supports it and you enable it. Apple isn't forcing the software onto anybody, this is entirely optional.
@@ImAyeGuest No I do understand. If plugging in my phone makes the whole dash Apple when I want to use CarPlay that's a problem,. I hope the experience is selectable and doesn't immediately take over the car if you want to enabled CarPlay the way it is right now.
@@KmanAust I don't think you do, because I already touched on that in my original comment. You are not forced to use CarPlay, if you do not wish to use it you can always disable it. Am I the only person who hates the bloated dashboard screen? What the hell do you need to see widgets in your car for? Why do you need to see a digital analog clock? Even the front facing console UI seems incredibly unnecessary. The center console is all you need and it's the only area they should be messing with with your car.

Probably not going to be supported. You will need a new vehicle with the proper hardware
So vehicle manufacturers are just gonna allow a major software company full control of their hardware including sensors which provide a multitude of data? A company who also wants to produce their own vehicle? This will be interesting!
They’ve never said they want to produce their own vehicle. That’s just rumors that’ll probably never come to fruition. Or at least not any time soon. It is interesting to see how this actually integrates with the car instead of basically casting a screen to the dash display
@@theogKavani even if that were true allowing that much data to be controlled by a third party company is risky.
