It’s the least I could do… the man gave so much of himself and his knowledge, he deserved something more than he’d get from the media than a cursory mention. I’m still reeling from the news as I’m sure everyone else is as well. Just seems so surreal. We had talked not too long ago about his coming back on our show… we thought we’d have time.

Thank You. I knew David a very long time ago, as adolescence in the 60's.
He made monster Movies down from his house, in the woods. He had models. He was funny and he was a great artist. He could draw anything.
He did not deserve an ending like this. RIP

Thank you for sharing those memories… it eases the pain at least a little being able to share what we appreciated in him. He was one in a million and will be sorely missed.

This couldn’t be more appropriate than now… we lost a good man to someone else’s poor choices. Not to mention one seriously injured! This one act of selfishness has effected so many.
PSA to those in the back: When you think you’re alright to drive, you’re not. Take an Uber and not someone else’s life in your hands.

Took the road less traveled by. Far more charming than Bela Lugosi. Thanks to all involved in holding the candle, reminding us there is a bright side.

Damn it! So sorry to hear about this. I’ve enjoyed his writing and commentaries for years. The loss of he and his partner is infuriating because of some reckless loser. Thanks for putting this nice tribute together!

When it came to monsters and sci fi there are only 3 or 4 film historians who can bring you joy giving you information you allready know and things you didnt know. And David Skal was one of those artists. Universal Studios no doubt owes him a debt of gratitude. He put together many behind the scenes monster movie packages that were really fun to watch. This guy is going to be missed for many reasons, and I am sad to hear he had to pass away in such a difficult way. The people like David who seem to brighten up the world and give many pleasure and enjoyment always seem to be taken away way to soon. And when some one is a douche & brings misery and anguish to every person they come in contact with they just live on and on into old age. There is no justice in this world.

I feel that. We all definitely need to keep his memory and mission alive how we can. Sharing what he loved about the classic horror film genre and Bram Stoker’s Dracula for the continuing generations. Because of people like him, there are new fans of our old monsters every year. Season 3 of Monster Manor will be dedicated to David’s legacy.

I only just learned of his passing, and it really hit me hard. I've become a fan of his over the past few years from his interviews and commentaries on the Universal Classic Monsters DVD collection, but something about his passion for these movies, and the way he would tell stories was just awe inspiring and he quickly became one of the top names in the horror community that I hoped to one day meet. Thank you so much for putting together this beautiful video in his memory.

You’re very welcome! For all he has done for the horror world especially Classic horror, he has earned a place in the Hall of Fame of Gothic Cinema Horror. He was a good man and friend.

For this kind man and his partner to be killed by a speeding drunk driver is beyond tragic.

Did not learn of David's death until yesterday 1/17. I am heartbroken. We met at The Esthetics of Fear Conference commemorating the 100th anniversary of the publication of Dracula at NYU in Greenwich Village. We discussed (what else) vampires in movies. He was a wonderful, friendly, kind & funny man.

So true. He was an incredible source of information. I should mention besides being saddened I was angry when I heard the news seventeen days later. The media either glossed over it or didn't bother to report it at all.@@MonsterManor1313

@@MonsterManor1313 Yesterday I learned that David's partner died from his injuries. How terrible! Words cannot express how upsetting this news is. I'm sure the perpetrator is alive & well & walking among us. How damned unfair that this is so, he deprived us "Monster Kids" of a wonderful friend.

For those that may not have heard yet, on February 6th, David’s life partner David Postawko, also succumbed to his injuries from the accident. So tragic and avoidable. Another driver’s poor choices have forever changed the world of all us MonsterKids! Make good choices, peeps…
