That's amazing, he was so talented! Does the talent run in the family? I read his obituary in the paper and it mentions his children. Did any of them go on to do music?
I precisely remember watching this video in high school after Hopkins and Robert Johnson got me into the Blues, and i didn't know who anyone in this video was. 5 years later now and I can't believe the tremendous effect these guys have had on my life
bluesatsunset Amen. I'm guilty as well. I had absolutely no exposure to this music coming up. It was Cream, Jimi, Led Zep on the radio that made me pick up the guitar. 12 years later of playing albums and guitar myself, I keep digging and finding more and more about the roots of the blues, America's musical legacy to the world.
Gibson Blues Indeed. My father brought me up on a strict diet of this, Wolf, Muddy, Johnson et-al. I didn't hear my first Zeppelin album until 1979. I was 10 years old. 3 years later, a was picking my way through Rising Sun on a really old Gibson in front of about 200 other 12 year old kids wearing a cut off denim jacket - With the biggest fucking Number of the Beast patch in the back you could imagine. The looks I had were unreal.
GIFT....lol I guess if your a white guy . I assure you these gentlemen and their sacrifices playing this music to pay rent and eat while running from lynchers and evil people who wanted to kill them for no good reason may have considered it a skill set more so than any gift. I am truly glad you are enjoying their work at least.
I remember when I really noticed this guy for the very first time, more than fifty years ago, but it's only been the last few years that I've even known his name. What a musician!
His playing is so far advanced from what I can do, I enjoy it but I don't understand it. Sounds almost free jazz, like something Ornette Coleman would play on a blues:)

Great vid! And that uncredited brush shufflin' drummer is really keeping that groove on the road!
I was at Sunnyland's 80th birthday party on Halsted St.
Knew Hubert, too.
They don't make them like that anymore.
Damn Hubert in his prime was something else. Such a unique approach and sound.
The man played guitar like I drink a glass of water.
I would love to hear you drink a glass of water man!
God Hubert Sumlin is really playing some crazy lines here. His energy is explosive.
This is the shit! I came often to Blues on Halsted in Chicago to hear Sunnyland and Hubert best blues I ever did hear

Man, what a gift the blues was and continues to be.
Incredible how many take modern rock for granted without realizing this is where it was born.

Wow, this is great. Young Hubert Sumlin already having put down the pick and playing with his fingers as Wolf had told him to.
Great Hubert!!!
I have seen Hubert Sumlin live in Sweden in 2004. David Johansen of the New York Dolls sang. A wonderful concert. I enjoyed every minute.

This is obviously the shit
Love Hubert and Sunnyland, but Hubert is too far out of tune to listen to, in this. Sound like at least a full half tone out of tune.
but he manages to pull it in by bending the strings - awesome
Guitar player horrendous
coolbreeze2000 Fucking clown.
+coolbreeze2000 what are you.
+coolbreeze2000 uh oh...Gary Moore fan alert!
