My Uncle Bob is probably in some of these videos. He was a faller in the 30's and 40's, and talked a lot about felling some of these giants. He ax cut the back cuts so smooth that you put a level or protractor on it.
Had a tree barber-chair during a final cut one time. As it was falling, it twisted and broke branches off and chased him around the stump like a pirouette! When he passed away many years later, he still had a broken chunk of redwood limb stuck under his collarbone when one of those branches speared him.
Loved listening to his stories. Great guy and favorite uncle....❤👍

Shit I can't imagine one of those big fellows barber-chairing, that's an absolute nightmare.
I've never barber-chaired a tree but I saw my buddy do it once, it must've split the tree 10 ft up the trunk and it was only a 2 ft diameter trunk.

I took my son on a trip through the redwoods back in the late seventies. We did a tour at the Scotia mill which is the mill in this video. I think they only ran the mill one 8 hour shift 4 days a week because of the growing scarcity of the trees they could harvest and I think it was the only redwood mill in the area. It was an amazing place. The California redwoods are one of the most amazing places on the planet to see and at least they have left enough to get a sense of what once was.

I saw them on videos plenty of times but in real life it's mind boggling. Excellent experience, one of the best days of my life. Go see them. You'll be glad you did.

@@user-no3tu9kh3p about the education. I mean it in a factual context, most of the education you receive is mostly based on how American is run and what's best for Americans while in America. Everywhere in Europe teaches about the whole world. History of other countries and their economy, politics and just how they work in comparison to us. Ask the average American where Vietnam (for example) is on a map and watch them struggle. Ask a European and we'll show you. Most Americans have no idea what happens out of their own country. And to be honest that sickens me to my core. You Americans even refer to Europe as if its just one simple country... and did you notice i LITERALLY was able to tell your American (assuming so because no denial) just by the crap you wrote from one sentance?
