I like #1 because it's dramatic. The surrounding mountains gives the impression that your daughter was climbing a similar moutain. The grip of her fingers on the rock, her extended legs and her intense facial expression show that she was maneuvering a difficult move. Great perspective.
Photo #2 for me. It really captures the scale of the rock to the climber, the colours and climber silhouette mix well together, and the photo also reveals just how stunning of a climbing environment Red Rock Canyon is. Great shot.
I like number 1. I like the perspective and the detail. You can really see her hand is gripping a small ledge and she is concentrating on the next move.
Thank you Tim for another very interesting photography lesson. Photos 1 & 3. I really enjoy all your photography videos. Thank you for your hard work and knowledge in making us better photographers!!
Photo no. 1 is the best shot without a doubt. As a climber and photographer I’ve learned that publications generally avoid butt shots and from below shots and instead opt for shots that feature the climbers expression, a shot taken from above the climber, or when on a highball boulder such as plumbers crack it often looks great to shoot from farther away and feature some of the scenery and scale as well. Of course, there are always exceptions and room for creativity but low butt shots generally don’t convey climbing well. Generally, the same guidelines apply to trad and sport climbing photos as well.
1 and I also liked the Grand Canyon shot. Thank you for such great compositions and for teaching us how to explore to create them too. You inspire many.
And the Oscar goes to.......It's a tie...1 and 3 share the award, but would have been second if the Grand Canyon blend was allowed, Nice work Tim and thanks for the tips
I like all three, but I think photo 2 is my favorite. The composition seems simpler, giving a clean and dramatic image, with the juxtaposition of the climber and the crack. This is actually a sport that I have just recently been getting into, first as a passive spectator and of late a bit more actively. So the tips will be put to good use.
I liked #2 best because I feel the rock and colors are more interesting and the positioning of your daughter on the right 3rd gives correct balance ! All were great though, and I really liked the one with the Grand Canyon!!
Photo #1 is great but seems an unnatural position when you want your weight to be carried Photo #2 beautiful color but the little part in the right bottom corner takes away the perspective of height Photo #3 just amazing! Thanks for sharing this video! loved it
I love the idea of #1 and using the foot as the foreground. Very cool idea. In the meantime I may have missed it but are you using a full frame camera? If so the lens choice makes a difference, eg 14mm on a full frame is different to 14mm on APS-C
As a climber I loved your video. It’s really interesting and I’d love to see more :) My favorite photo is number 2 because you can really see the rock. I don’t like the foot and the leg on number 1 because they look bigger than they actually are. And I don’t like number 3 because it’s taken from below and climbers usually don’t like pictures taken from below ;) In my opinion the most beautiful and impressive climbing pictures are usually taken from above :)
Photos 1 & 3 are my favorites. The "picking between good photos" is a problem for me....getting down to that "one" drives me nuts. I did like the fun one you did to make it look like she was at the Grand Canyon.
Photo #1 but with cropping some of the rock off on the far right so her foot winds up on the right verticle third and her face on the background left vertical third. Photo #2 needs more rock at the bottom. Photo #3 - blah. Can't see her facial expression. However, where are the shots of climbers plotzing on those teeny crash pads? Those pads are protective if someone falls from a great height? That's scary
P.S. By cropping more tightly, it will make her hand also bigger. Tim, you mentioned in the video the significance of the handholds and this one she's holding will then be emphasized more.
#1 didn't have the climber's expression of intensity for believability, for such an interesting angle *#2 has the color, contrast and composition I like (I would have removed the rock edge and branches sticking out on the right so she could look like she's really up high* #3 has a nice shape of the rock and sky's expanse, but the flattened body didn't have shape and looked to meld into the rock. I'd also remove the little flares in the right side sky.
1 and 3 are my favorites. Though the Grand Canyon shot is awesome! 😉
Thanks Chip. The Grand Canyon shot is my fave but I didn't want to include it as one of the top three ...
@@TimShieldsPhotography totally understand, but still cool! 😊
I like #1 because it's dramatic. The surrounding mountains gives the impression that your daughter was climbing a similar moutain. The grip of her fingers on the rock, her extended legs and her intense facial expression show that she was maneuvering a difficult move. Great perspective.
Love #1 best. The perspective is different. Also love the photoshop combination. That is awesome.
Photo #2 for me. It really captures the scale of the rock to the climber, the colours and climber silhouette mix well together, and the photo also reveals just how stunning of a climbing environment Red Rock Canyon is. Great shot.
#1 is my fave, but all three are great shots. #1 shows the winning smile!
All are good tim, but favourite no 1. And grand canyon picture was very good 👍🏾
I like number 1. I like the perspective and the detail. You can really see her hand is gripping a small ledge and she is concentrating on the next move.
Thanks Tami!
They all awesome, and #1 is my favorite.
Thank you Tim for another very interesting photography lesson. Photos 1 & 3. I really enjoy all your photography videos. Thank you for your hard work and knowledge in making us better photographers!!

Photo 1 is my favourite. Love the Grand Canyon, look forward to getting there again soon.
#1 definitely, but love the others too. Your daughter is awesome. Good for her!
Photo 2. Like her position on the rock and the blue line/sky makes for a cool photo!
Awesome photos and tips photo 3 is my favorite, thanks Tim
1 and I also liked the Grand Canyon shot. Thank you for such great compositions and for teaching us how to explore to create them too. You inspire many.
And the Oscar goes to.......It's a tie...1 and 3 share the award, but would have been second if the Grand Canyon blend was allowed, Nice work Tim and thanks for the tips
All of them are amazing!
Photo #1 is my favorite. Thanks for the video.
#1 for sure. Thanks for the tips!
Definitely the last one, especially when you PS'd in the Grand Canyon! Nice work.
The colours in 2 are fabulous, but it's 1 for me. Depth and perspective.
I like photo #2. Thank you for showing me how to use my wide angle lens.
Photo #3, but I would have had to vote for the Grand Canyon if you had included that in the choices and I didn't know it was "edited" in Photoshop.
#1. Then #3! Thanks for sharing.
1 is my favorite thanks Tim
I liked 3 the best. Must also admit I recently finished Photography Transformation Masterclass. Great Class, highly recommend it. Learned a lot.
Thank you Mark! So glad you liked the masterclass!
Its 1 for me 2 runs a very close second. The Grand Canyon shot is amazing. Just like the real thing I'm sure👏👏👏
Photo 1 is my fav, but all are great.
I liked #2 best because I feel the rock and colors are more interesting and the positioning of your daughter on the right 3rd gives correct balance ! All were great though, and I really liked the one with the Grand Canyon!!
excellent photography, thanks
I like the first one. Cool thinking there!
I like #1 best. Great shots!
I love number 1. So good
Photos 1 & 3 are amazing...You should have included the one with the Grand Canyon...that is mind boggling! Thanks for all you teach us.
Photo 3 is my fav! Super cool!
Hi Tim. I like photo number 1 the best. It looks like she is holding on for dear life with her foot.
I liked one. ....and the Grand Canyon!
Photo #1 is great but seems an unnatural position when you want your weight to be carried
Photo #2 beautiful color but the little part in the right bottom corner takes away the perspective of height
Photo #3 just amazing!
Thanks for sharing this video! loved it
Christina is awesome as a climber I love all three shots. Hugs from auntie Birgitte
#1, is the most credible as an extreme situation.
All are good, but #1 is my fav!
great shots love no 3.
2, great shot! I love analyzing photos and this one comes across as a mouth being pulled open 😊
Photo 1 Great perspective Tim
I like all 3 :)
No.3 is the Best!
# 3 definitely is the greatest shot...!
#3 is my favorite
I like number 1. Although adding the grand canyon made the photo really exciting. ;-)
3 is the best due to use perspective create emotion of this photo
#1 loved the video
No 3 for me Tim.
#2 is my favorite. The 'crack' line as an opposing force to your daughter (protagonist - antagonist) comes through as a storytelling moment.
Really like photo # 3 but also thought the photo shopped with grand canyon was extreme.
Photo #3 but the Grand Canyon takes the cake!
2 for me. Gives a real feel of adventure, though I think I'd have cropped the trees out on the right?
As a bouldering shot I would go with No 1 its just a great angle. No 3 is also great.
I like #1 because of the perspective the leg added.
Interesting
3. Good info - Thanks.
number 3. great
Two and three!
Photo number 3 is the one I like best.
I love the idea of #1 and using the foot as the foreground. Very cool idea. In the meantime I may have missed it but are you using a full frame camera? If so the lens choice makes a difference, eg 14mm on a full frame is different to 14mm on APS-C
Number 3🍀
#3 but I enjoyed the Grand Canyon climber photography!
As a climber I loved your video. It’s really interesting and I’d love to see more :)
My favorite photo is number 2 because you can really see the rock.
I don’t like the foot and the leg on number 1 because they look bigger than they actually are.
And I don’t like number 3 because it’s taken from below and climbers usually don’t like pictures taken from below ;) In my opinion the most beautiful and impressive climbing pictures are usually taken from above :)
Thanks for sharing! I appreciate your comments.
LOL If photo taken from above, that would have meant Tim had to climb up to take the pics. And we know that won't happen!! ;)
Haha! Why not ;) Next time, wanna see that ;)
As much as I love the colors of #2, my favorite is #1
Photo 1 like the Grand Canyon shot!
Photo #1 was my favorite
Photos 1 & 3 are my favorites. The "picking between good photos" is a problem for me....getting down to that "one" drives me nuts. I did like the fun one you did to make it look like she was at the Grand Canyon.
number 3 is the best, but number 1 is also good.
I'll go with #3
#3. But I am biased toward blue sky background, especially growing up in Utah with all the rock formations. :)
looks good!
Thank you Vimal.
Photo no 1 I like the most
Thanks Lennie!
Photo 3, but all were good!
Ooh!! I'll be taking dangerous look-like photos next time
Photo #2. Time to go make some photos in local area.
Photo number 4 over the grand canyon! :D who cares if it is photoshopped as long as it is in good faith!
3 and the Grand Canyon shot!
Photo #1!
I Love them ALL...but having to choose, I pick photo 1.
I like all three, but I'll go with #1.
3 - nice work.
# 3 Is my favorite
#1 is my favorite
I like photo number 3 :)
Really like 2
Thank you! Cheers!
Photo 1 for me :)
Number 3 is the best but number 1 is fun
#3 be my pick
3 is my fav
I like #3 the best.
Number 1 is the most dramatic but number 3 has power as well.
Photo 1!
photo #2....YIKES!!! to all of them.
