I have Kenmore version of this one. It was manufactured in 2008. I also got F71 error. I tried some of the other simple fixes that others have suggested, then I disconnected the water supply and found that the small wire mesh filters (hot and cold supply) at the connection were clogged with scrunge and debris. I cleaned them and no longer have F71. Worth a try before you call the repair guy.
Scott, very informative and helpful video. I had been troubleshooting my Whirlpool washer WFW9500 with an F70 error code and could not figure it out. I unplugged to motor control wiring (blue wires at the top of the module) and was able to get the washer to turn on. The motor control unit connector was wet. I am waiting for it to dry up... update to come. Thanks a lot!
I am having the same issue. Was like in the video, but after unplugging the blue wire at top the lights come on and it starts a bit but then get the f71 error, with blue wire in I get f70. You know what the issue is?
Do not be upset. I will share my fix :( Wife get upset and force me to knee and open the bottom cover of the washer and remove motor control board (i watched vid on youtube to learn how to) :) In my case i had a f70/f71 for over 6-9 months hoping that it will go away somehow miraculously. It would start and stop before spinning, beep and do not start at all, lock the door etc i did a lot of unplugging. Wife said: enough !!!!!!! back to motor board. im looking at the board and see "communication" circuit from the computer is separated from the rest of the board with two Optocouplers TCLT1103. I looked at it close with magnifying glass x10 and see a bit of tiny residue between 3 legs. Cleaned it with needle/spirit/brush. Put everything back together and now it looks as it is finishing the whole cycle. it looks like this tiny residue was giving problem to the transistor side (reading side) of TCLT1103 Optocoupler and could not communicate properly with the main computer. Somebody is going to hate me !!!!!!
Scott, The F70 error code came up at the end of several codes C:00 U:22 2:22... ten codes in all then the F70 code came up, I unplugged the blue wire on the MCU and my washer stayed the same buttons just dinged. Model WFW9550WW10 What would be the next to check in this case. Thanks for the video
This might be a dumb question... but where do you suggest I buy the motor control unit??? I have what appears to be the exact same Kenmore Elite model shown. Thanks in advance!!!
@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel Replaced the machine ultimately. When the cost to fix is over 50% the cost of a new machine (closer to 60%) then it makes no sense. The machines these days have planned obsolescence it seems. Will investigate it a little closer as I still have the machine, so maybe if that's the problem, could perhaps help someone who needs a set. Thanks.

my maytag itmaking the same sound but i have already tried taking out the blue wire it still didnt come on. but the washed does work ever now and then.
I’ve had the error code F70 for a few days now. For a while the power would not come on. Now it is F71. Is this normal? The drum does, or did rotate. So according to the TS guide it is a user interface problem.
Hi was wondering if after you disconnect the blue wire and go to try to start it it start but comes up with a f28 code...after plus blue wire back in does it mean it still a bad MCU
Hey Mike, It was worth a try. Just need to order a new motor control board and pop it in and you’ll be fine. Watch out for Washing very heavy things like bathroom mats and blankets as they can ruin your new motor control unit.
What else could the cause be if after disconnecting the 3 blue wire plug the f71 error persists? I also checked voltage and I get 5 volts for the blue wire connector
Excellent video. That was the problem. It didn't take long to fix.
Glad it helped👍😊
Hey bud, any suggestions where to find that motor control unit

Nice job,
Thanks Trevor
Trevor Thanks a bunch. I tried this first before messing with the circuit board and it fixed it.
Wish i would have read this first. Fixed it but we had already took it apart...lol THANKS MAN

Wow,
Nicely done😊👍
By motor board do you mean motor control unit?
Did it work is the question no video on UA-cam shows it working after
Yes it did😊

I would now replace the MCU👍
If I unplug the blue the lights come on at least. With them all in it is like in the video. Did you happen to fix it?
@@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel I replaced the MCU no go same problem so then it has to be the display board is this correct

Repairclinic.com has them and you can get a refund if it’s the wrong part.
eBay of course
Decent video. 4 outta 5 stars. Camera angles didn't fully show how to remove the motor control board, but SUPER knowledgeable.
Thank you
Replaced the MCU as described, and still code 71. Any suggestions?
I wonder if that skinny blue wire that plugs into the MCU is broken ?

I think the CCU that lives near the top of the washer needs to be replaced.
How much do suggest I pay to have this fixed and the water drain cleaned?

in my washer it was dirty TCLT1103 Optocouplers on motor control board.

What was the issue?
Mine is doing the same thing. How do I know if it's MCU or the control unit at top of washer
@felixleeo89muy65 been a while on this.... I ended up replacing the board at the bottom the washer. It fixed the problem.
Mahalo for the video
I did all of that and when I turned it on - still not working. F71 again. Any ideas?

Could be loose wires at the controller that’s under the top or you may need a new controller.
You don’t need a motor controller 😀
Why can't i find anything about error code f73
