Double Island , Palm Cove, Queensland - An island lost in time.

- Double island was once one of Australia's most exclusive resorts, but since its devastation from a cyclone over 10 years ago, it has slowly been taken over again by nature.
I took my inflatable Hydroforce boat over to the island, with just my small 4HP Mariner engine. The ease of inflatables is they can be launched from a beach, rather than a boat ramp.
Double island is situated just a 30 minute drive from Cairns in the beautiful resort suburb of Palm Cove, access to the island can be by private boat or Kayak. Only being 1km from the shore of Palm Cove it is easily accessible.
Please note access to the island can be difficult depending on the tides as there is low lying reefs surround the area.

Nice video. We run tours over there by kayak every day. Just to let you know, the resort wasn't closed due to a cyclone. It changed ownership several times due to unsuccessful business ventures. The last person to purchase it was Chinese business man Benny Wu back in 2012. He had plans to do it up and bring Chinese clients over there, but nothing ever eventuated. We would like to see nature reclaim it completely. It would make a nice camping ground or even a turtle sanctuary.
hopefully one day it can be returned to nature or fixed up. its a beautiful little island when its not super low tide. And it has the most friendliest dogs ever!!
I worked on this island for two weeks over 2007-2008 when the facilities were in good condition. Sad to see it in such a sorry state today. Insane to think the lease was sold for only A$8m in 2012. Absolute bargain. Apparently the new owner Benny Wu needs to fix up the island and comply with the lease terms by March 2023 or risk losing the lease. Will be interesting to see what happens. Might be back on the market…
hopefully one day we can see it restored to its former glory.

Nice, drone? Yeah it's a nice island. Was low tide and cloudy the day I went. But I've been many times and it looks beautiful
