i LOVE this kind of videos, where thomas is kind of crazy. Like the older Epic Light Media Videos, where he was trowing things from off the roof. GO ON THOMAS! Love this unique kind of reviews!
@@Aputure-Tim_S_Kang Well, I wanted people to grasp that Aputure has built some very good lights over the past 3 years and that this was taking it in a new direction of quality while maintaining and then exceeding the previous level of quality. I literally changed my wording to include “slightly” before I hit enter. Maybe I think people read too much into what people type and thus, chose my words carefully, very carefully, with slightly more thought, slightly. Or, its my tiny revenge for Aputure making me misspell aperture over the past many years out of habit.
aside from the very entertaining review, this light looks amazing and is well priced. I love the format of this video because it's entertaining and informative!
Weird, I didn't pick up on that it could do colors from the Aputure announcement video. I thought it was only (lol, only) 2500-10,000K with the green shift. Light just got much more interesting with that information! Can't wait to see the refresh of the rest of the lineup with this engine.
Yeah they didn’t show the range of colors, probably because they don’t want to make promise of a “full color “ light as this was designed to be a “fully tunable white light”. But that was a pleasant surprise that it can create a pretty decent color wash… imagine they have more in the works for this tech.
@@EpicLightMedia I'm most excited for the output and green shift! This really looks like the buy once, cry once solution for a key light, for me at least! It was only last year that I started really looking into building out my own lighting package. The X and B models of Aputure and Nanlite didn't really appeal to me after a bunch of research, so I went with a 600D Pro for my big key for now, knowing more was coming after the Prolycht purchase. Aputure has delivered!
Great video, entertaining and informative. I really want this light! I only have the small cheap 220D of plastic, but I still love them, they would break easy tho compared to this tank :-D
According to Aputure's website, the 1200X is a little brighter than the 1200D. If true, that's wild to have a bi-color light with green magenta shift brighter than it's mono-color equivalent. Short of some nasty unexpected bugs, I will be getting this light. The 1200D is already such a great work horse.
Question. What Stand and adapter are you using to mount the new Aperture Light? More looking at the adapter to allow the light to mount. I have C stands but its a male not a female end.
@@EpicLightMedia Sorry to bug you buttttt, I still can't find it. It looks much different on B&H than in this video towards the end. specifically at 10:41. Thanks bro!!
@@KallusGarnet What is crazy that 1200d new is $3600 in my country (no TAX). I know it has 3 reflectors included, but .... 1200X for $2999 is crazy good :D
I feel so uncomfortable when you're bossing my camera surrogate around... "C'mere, c'mere" has me worrying, "OMG, what if my camera surrogate doesn't move fast enough?!?!"
Somebody recently told me that you can't just unplug it, you need to wait a good 10 minutes after powering off otherwise you could electrocute yourself. I never owned a light powerful enough for a ballast so, is it true? How does it work?
So our Alexa white balance was set to 5600k, the 1200x was set to 5600k and the 1200d is supposed to be 5600k. We didn't alter the image at all in post. The 1200d clearly has a yellow color cast compared to the 1200x. So it was very clear while filming and in the footage that the 1200x is a "cleaner" white color light.
@@jamesepiclight sorry, James. Not a really good way to compare lights. “Daylight” is all over the place, changes continually based on time of year and time of day. So white balancing to 5600 is arbitrary, and in this case simply favors one light over the other. Either you white balance separately, or white balance to the light you can’t adjust, and then match the one you can adjust, to that. That tells us something. Right now you’ve made it an apples oranges comparison, but are implying something else.
@@barrygoyette Setting the camera WB to 5600k for lights that are rated for 5600k does actually show us how close to 5600k the light actually is. Maybe "cleaner" is the wrong word? But hopefully next time you can make a video to show the differences better. Also check out aputures 1200x announcement video as they go more into the science and technical stuff as that is not our strong suit.😉 ua-cam.com/video/DUS2VBKORnE/v-deo.htmlsi=LLfh7PgFXU6_VQsX
@@jamesepiclight certainly closeness to target WB is an important metric. But it’s not really the one Aputure is marketing as important which this light (that being a more expansive and complete spectrum at every temperature). Additionally this light’s killer app is its ability to match other lights to a more extreme degree than anything else on the market. Regardless showing two lights, one white balanced and one not, is produces a highly skewed result that disregards many of the qualities of both lights, and fails to confirm whether Aputures marketing means anything.. but falsely implies that it does. That’s all I’m saying. I liked your unboxing and waterworks segments just fine. Cheers.
You were so close to perfect clickbait challange - "Can we literally replace sun?". You guys should make shadow in one spot in sunny day and simulate real sun with fresnel/mirrors etc. That would be interesting comparison if you could determine "At this time and from this distance there is the same amount of lumens" etc.
That's because it's not white balanced. (or rather, it's white balanced to the X)... I'm curious to see what the actual differences are one the 2 lights are balanced to each other.
@@Aputure-Tim_S_Kang Yes...I watched your interview on Gaffer's Salon. Illuminating. I've learned a lot today. However, the comparison in this video, the "green" result is due to lack of white balancing. I wish he'd white balanced, then we'd be able to see what you're saying....here.

I just Love Tomas
This is one of my favorite presentations of this 1200X today! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks!!!!!
I loved the chaos in this video. You took things up a notch and it was awesome!
Thanks so so much! Haha
I wish more videos were like this. Not taking anything really seriously but super informative at the same time. Bravo
All I can say is the humor in this video outshines the light. Great review video.
Hey you’re so kind!! Thanks!
That jump cut between the two lights was perfect. No notes.
your presentation is always something else! genuine and funny. love it!
Its a solid light and the beginning of a slightly new direction for Aputure
Thanks for stopping by!
slightly? you're going to call my year's worth of slaving away on all of this "slightly new"? :_(************ 😂just teasing.

Mam this light is sick. 😮 Adding this to my list. All I need is ONE light. 😂
Storm 1200X is suitable use LS1200d pro reflector set? (Narrow, medium and wide)

Using a combo stand with a junior pin adapter

P.S. I feel so sorry for your neighbors.
I can’t find this anywhere, can you plug this into a regular wall outlet?
Yes it runs off regular wall power.
Question, this cones are new specific for this 1200x or are the same cones that release con the 1200 pro?
Good question. They are new
Can you PLEASE 🙏🙏🙏 the light as you normally do, would greatly appreciate.
that color accuracy test makes the 1200d look like trash lol
Thomas exploring a light is probably the best thing on UA-cam 😂
Oooooo you’re so nice!!!
sick vid! what was used to light the shot at 7:22?
Actually the forza 720
fun stuff!
Instructions unclear, I destroyed every light I have by spraying water on my lights
Thumbs up.
I hope I can get 1200d used for $500 now :D
