Hegarty Hedge Cutting - The man, gear and story

  • I hope you enjoyed that video. I first met Hugh Hegarty as part of my college placement a few years ago and always wanted to capture the gear and more importantly the story behind it. Hughs's story is an inspirational one, it proves you don't have to be born into it to have it. If you can dream of it you can achieve it. There is no magic formula, Hugh is an ordinary guy who just grinds it out every day. It also shows how hard work always pays off. Thanks for watching, any tips or comments feel free to let me know.

    Before I saw this video, I hired Hugh to clear out some overgrown vegetation on a wee humble cottage I inherited in Ireland. The cottage has been in our family for many years. Because of Covid, I couldn't get over there from the USA to see what needed to be done. I called Hugh out of the blue and this very kind, dear man went out and expertly did a fantastic job of trimming up the overgrowth around the cottage that had been unoccupied for over 5 years. Although we had never met, he trusted me to pay him and I trusted him to restore the grounds around the home that my great grandmother lived in. I always knew the Irish were special and Hugh (and his family) sets a fine example of how very special the Irish people truly are. Thank you Hugh, hope to meet you and your family someday soon.

      Some day might never come. Get over to Ireland as soon as you can. Work will always be there. Life waits for no one. Go while you and yours are healthy.

    I have started this year with ursus 450 and a small mc Connell 3 and half ft head suits the low hp tractor, handy for gardens but will still do field work. Have got 6 to 7 customers already might upgrade to bigger tractor in the future.

      Hi Tom , i understand and appreate your concerns. Thanks for expressing them under this video. Hugh has a great understanding of the bush as he has 30 years experience of managing them all around the cork countryside, unlike alot of fellas out there as he mentions and seeing people who dont know what they are doing , destroy habitats isnt a nice thing two see. If u would like 2 make yourself available for an interview alongside Hugh when i do a follow up that would be great. Thanks

    • @Tomherbs
      @Tomherbs 4 роки тому +3

      Simply Agri it is not just him, most contractors are mulching big bushy hedges into the shape of a low box hedge. Birds will not nest in low narrow hedges, from what I can see in this video they also mulch scrub into the ground which is having affect on Ireland’s small mammal population, they need cover. People are just too lazy to cut a hedge by hand now a days.
