    It strikes me as funny (or possibly ironic) that camo is considered a statement piece when the entire purpose of camouflage is to blend in! Keep up the great work Harry!

    LOVE this statement: "It doesn’t matter to me if this is on trend or not, or considered timeless by the majority, I’m gonna wear it regardless. It may not be timeless for you but it’s timeless to me because it means something to me."

    Agree 100%. I'm 30 & followed trends since I could purchase my own clothes. Felt so many times I had nothing to wear when my wardrobes were packed, mainly because I never had ANY timeless/basic items. Cleared everything out this year & focused more on buying timeless items to structure my outfits, helped me massively.

    If I HAD to choose between two extremes, I would definitely choose a timeless wardrobe. The biggest reason is because I would save a LOT of money. But also, it's just that eventually, you just gravitate towards what you like, regardless of trends.

    This is perfect style advice - I find myself leaning towards the “timeless” pieces but also tend to lack some interest or depth in my outfits, so I’m keen to start incorporating more statement or “trending” pieces. Been a big fan of the channel for a while now, you’re always giving the most positive and practical advice for style in my view - keep it up!

    Definitely agreed with using trends as an opportunity to build a personal form of timelessness. I think part of its also the definition of what is a timeless basic still evolving to a degree, so trends giving it more flexibility and variety (eg whatever cut of jeans are popular at a time getting more colour or design options because more people are using it as a base)

    This is absolutely one of your best videos! I have been trying to define my personal style for some time now. I consider my style timeless, but also gravitate towards trendy pieces. I couldn't figure out how to reconcile these two seemingly contradictory statements, but now I know. I love your quote "anything can become timeless if it becomes part of your personal style".

    Hi Harry,After exiting college in 2022, I felt disheartened and destitute, with nothing suitable to wear despite a packed wardrobe. It wasn't until late 2022 that I stumbled upon your channel and discovered our shared fashion sense. Inspired by your guidance, I began to make more informed clothing purchases, prioritizing timeless pieces and aligning them with my wardrobe needs. Thanks to your influence, I've developed a keen sense of fashion. Today, I've founded a small clothing brand in India, specializing in timeless wardrobe essentials. Your videos have been invaluable in shaping my journey. Thank you mate for your continuous inspiration and support🙂🤍.

    I also find that a fully basics fit works great if you wear jewelry (and I'm not talking about a typical paper thin gold chain). The jewelry itself becomes the statement piece. I find that I can make a ton of timeless fits that don't look basic because I like to wear a decent amount of jewelry (ie watch, bracelet, rings, earrings, nose ring, different chains/necklaces, etc.).

  • @danielwright568
    @danielwright568 8 місяців тому +1

    I think my answer would be a mix of both, but weighted more in favour of timeless pieces. That way you can always have a 'baseline' that you feel comfortable wearing and you always look good in. You can then incorporate more playful pieces if and when you feel like it. Trying out a trending item is often fun imo and can also help develop your style by wearing something you may not have previously considered.

    I used to build my wardrobe around basics and timeless pieces. It was great, I look nice all the time and everything can match up well with everything else.
    But after a while, it got boring, so I began to experiment and get more interesting pieces like full graphic shirts, colorful pants, statement sneakers etc. I was surprised to find out that those statement pieces are actually super easy to wear, as long as you have good basics and neutrals to pair with them.

    It took me quite a while (30 years or so) to settle in to my own personal style. But it basically revolves around colors that look good on my skin tone and cuts that work with my body. And being practical, so things you could be active in and hold up with lots of use. Needless to say, I hit up the REI discount racks as much as my bank account allows lmao.

    A great video and fab food for thought, focusing in on your own personality, that of the individual and the playfulness and joy of fashion.
    In particular for me was musing of a trending piece becoming timeless, in particular around who you are.
    I bought a tee from Uniqlo a good few years ago, based around Japanese record store 'Technique Tokyo'. Simple orange shirt, small embroidered logo on the front, printed design on the back.
    I absolutely love this tee and still look forward to wearing it. It's a bit thicker than I've normally had from Uniqlo, sized a bit larger too, and I realised I liked this shape on me.
    As a musician, and in thinking that I may never actually get to Japan, there's something a bit magical about the item, daft as it may sound.
    Thank you for another ace video, Harry :)

    Great video as always, Harry. Although using two totally different meanings for "timeless" was a bit of a stretch. Hahahaha. Wardrobe should be mostly timeless with a little bit of trendy. Let's say70- 80% of your clothes are timeless pieces. Then allowing around 20-30% trendy clothes that you could wear in the weekends and without spending too much to replace.

  • @Ulfscher
    @Ulfscher 7 місяців тому

    I go for a timeless wardrobe. It's timeless in the sense that it's mostly outside fashion trends. Some really classical pieces, some quirky pieces that were never trendy and may be hard to place in a certain era.
    Some brands have really distinct styles, like Chanel or Yohji Yamamoto, that don't really age or age slowly - the pendulum always swings from skinny to oversize fits, from narrow to exaggerated shoulders, and back again. Brands will adapt to these societal changes in taste to a greater or lesser extent. Just think of how a conservative business suit might've looked like in the 1940s, 1970s, 1990s and so on.
    I appreciate people with vibrant, exuberant styles simply because they add some colourful fun. They stand out from the boring minimal brigade, and the minimalists can feel smugly superior. We need each other. 🙃

    The issue I have with trendy items is that the intent behind them is to get attention. To me, that's a bit too narcissistic and can seem immature. I've been guilty of that myself over the years, but nowadays I definitely skew toward timeless.

    • @HarryHas

      @@HarryHas It might just be an age thing. I'm in my late 40s and don't look right in anything baggy...I stick to slim straight fit. But yes, when I was younger everyone was much more into clothing trends.

    Timeless all the way. I hate buying clothes; I only like to wear them.

    Funny, I also liked Metal as a youngster, so I still like combat boots and leather jackets.

    Great video. Can’t see any points I object to. I assume the same ideas goes for jewelry.

    Just buy what you like it’ll be trendy sooner or later. I remember the Y2K look as it happened and didnt dig it then or now. If your comfortable in what you wear you’ll look fine.

    being in a tough money situation makes you buying timeless pieces lol. if I had money though, I would definitely buy some more unique (rather than trendy) pieces but my focus would still be on the timelessness
