FORD TRANSIT CUSTOM L1H2 - New Van - New Conversion

Looking for the best SWB van to convert into a campervan? Check out the Ford Transit Custom - Automatic!
The search was on for a day van going from our Large motorhome to a small day van. We had a few requirements for the van, which where, fit into a normal size parking space, high enough to stand up in, good condition and the big one was we wanted it to be automatic.
A van which would be perfect for adventures and ideal ready to convert into a day campervan for short trips away.
The final conversion will be on display at Campervan Campout, event from May 3-5!

We got our van professionally converted. I would say definately a reversing camera. We went for a rib bed, as wide as we could get ( 120 cm ) but still left enough width for cupboard width. Rib beds offer better access to storage beneath the bed, it is also a bigger storage area at the rear of the van, which with the rear leaf horizontal, you can seperate into clean gear above the leaf and dirty outside gear on the floor of the van at the rear and you sleep on the flat reverse sides instead of the compromised seat side. We got an extra side window fitted at the near side rear and a window in window on the driver's side above the hob / sink for ventillation. All windows behind the cab made privacy glass. We were advised not to get rear windows because most of the time, stuff is stacked up on top of the rear bed leaf, whilst travelling, so you couldn't look out of it anyway and it would be a further heat loss area for no purpose. We had the double passenger seats put on a kiravans swivel plate but left the drivers seat static, making a greater length of sink / hob sideboard cupboard possible. We had 2 x 90 amp hour gel batteries fitted with a solar panel. I would suggest, which we regretted later, was the running of wires for the power to a tow bar from the front pre conversion because afterwards it is hard to do, if you ever intend to have a tow bar fitted. We tow a caravan with our campervan and when they came to fit the tow bar post campervan conversion, they couldn't run the larger power wire that would power the fridge in the caravan. Everything else works on the tow bar electrics but this doesn't. It doesn't bother us really, because we have the fridge in the campervan on route, then on camp site, we transfer the food to the caravan fridge, after it has been hooked up to the mains on site but it would have been nice to have the caravan fridge powered from the campervan, which the wires need to be laid pre campervan conversion, which they weren't.
