I have an answer for who else or who doesn't love Elton John. Some people younger like me that never heard of them before period but after you Rocketman movie and stumbling on this oh, he's great and I particularly like that track he has called Crocodile Rock I think. I like that throwback and I was goofing around about not knowing who Elton John is. I've seen old video of Eminem and Elton John doing Stan on the Grammys. Also I saw old performance on an award show with Elton John and actual rose doing November Rain.. I've never heard this one I'm about to listen to because I always come to the comments first and then I'll go back to the comments after to see what's up period so crossing my fingers here
well he did write Don't Go Breaking My Heart (not among my favourites though a huge hit) and at least quite a bit of Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word, and he's done some instrumentals, most notably Funeral for a Friend. A tremendous partnership, anyway..
The reason this sounds so good is because it's the very well produced and layered studio (i.e. album) version, which Elton and his band are miming to for a TV show
Elton once did a concert wearing a duck suit.. just because he felt like it. Lol Look it up. Elton is incredible in so many ways. The obvious being his ability to sing. But he was is a quality pianist as well. His stage presence, flamboyance and just the overall person he is. I top 10 music GOAT for sure. So many great songs and so many have a dif vibe.
I saw Elton John in concert in the mid 90's... one of THE best shows I've been to. Him and the piano for 3 straight hours of energy and entertainment. SO good. He will go down as one of the best to ever do it.
Elton John has had so many hits it's hard to believe. I was in the Navy in the early 70s, stationed in Pearl Harbor, and Elton's Mad Man Across The Water was one of my favorite albums. I remember being in the Philippines during Viet Nam and crossing the bridge walking into Subic Bay, and hearing this song playing over loud speakers outside the bars lining the streets. It was #1 at the time.😎 Great memories.......Great Reaction. 💝
one of his most underrated songs is "Someone Saved My Life Today". This is a truly marvelous song that is so deep and emotional - similar vibes. You're right there aren't many on piano and can have that much success. Ray Charles, and Billy Joel are two.
There are actually several! Besides Elton John & Billy Joel, I would put Bruce Hornsby in this group of master pianists, and add Stevie Wonder & Alicia Keys.
A bit of trivia. Bernie taupin is the poetic genius behind all Elton john songs and Elton is the musical genius. These guys once roomed together when they were young. They began writing songs when they were kids. Later Bernie would send lyrics to Elton through faxes and Elton would sit by himself with his piano and come up a melody. They never worked together on a song. 50 years later it remains the same formula. Its remarkable I've never heard any other collaborators work this way.
I've always loved these lines from the song: "What do you think you'll do then? I bet they'll shoot down the plane It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics To set you on your feet again"

Jerry Lee Lewis - Great Balls of Fire, Breathless, Whole Lotta Shaking Going On. All from the 5o's. And if course the incomparable Ray Charles. Just to get you started.
Bernie Taupin wrote this song when he left Elton as his lyricist. Elton had been abusing both drugs and alcohol for a long time, and Bernie was done dealing with it. Soon after, Elton checked himself into a rehabilitation center, and spent quite a bit of time there. Bernie learned of this, and went to visit him. When Elton got sober, they returned to being the fantastic duo that they were. Bernie wrote Elton's lyrics until they both retired. If you've never seen it, Rocket Man is a movie about the first 15 or so years of his career. I believe another movie is in the works, for the next chapter.
If you really wanna learn about Elton and his journey- the Movie Rocketman is on Netflix and it's great!!! Story is great and the music just makes it wonderful to watch. I've watched it multiple times and still can and not get bored at all. If you ever react to him may I suggest my fav song of his is "I'm still Standing"

Selling 30 million and still counting! Often regarded as Sir Elton John's magnum opus, it truly is a masterpiece. If you just stuck with his chart toppers you'd be kept busy for months and this album alone charted number 1 in 1973 and 74. 8 times Platinum (Billboard seems to have stopped counting) named as one of the 50 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. And the second album I bought with my own money (I didn't earn my own money until I stayed in one place for more than 6 months, thus unable to hold a job of my own at 13) Now I'll finish listening to the reaction... Funny thing about the "glasses'. He didn't need corrective lenses, until he started wearing the 'costume' jewelry glasses. Elton John's voice has a touch of 'blues' set to modern pop/rock. And play the piano?? You ABSOLUTELY MUST watch his performance of CROCODILE ROCK on the Muppet Show. One thing to address...he absolutely hid who he was. Being gay was NOT an accepted lifestyle in the 60s and 70s. He even got married to Renate Blauel to hide his homosexual truth. The recent movie "Rocket Man" is loosely based on his life and tracks the arc of his life and career.

It looks like the UK 'Top of the pop's' top 40 weekly music program show on the BBC, believe it or not. you queue up and get free ticket back then, l did many times and saw some incredible artists........😃.

BTW - Add Leon Russell to the list of Piano playing singers - Stranger in a strange land is such a great song! If you're an Elton fan listen to this whole album along with "Madman across the Water". Also, he and John Lennon wrote "Whatever gets you through the night" together after John had quit playing live, but promised Elton if the song went to #1 he would play it live with him, which they did.

Grew up on this type of music as a preteen while running around on the streets in South Brooklyn…enjoyed all types of music..including top 40 hits…watched American Bandstand, Soul Train, Hee Haw…to me it was when music was at it’s most artistic and pinnacle state.
I know this is how this song was supposed to sound at the time but God Angeline Jordan just elevated this song to a whole new level, she didn't just make it current like Simon Cowel said but also more emotional.

@@TraciKReacts My favourite Elton John songs are nearly all the early ones on albums like Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Tumbleweed Connection and my favourite album Madman Across the Water. It's always been his album tracks that have been the songs l have loved the most, so many great ones, Ticking being the very best for me. His later albums weren't as good, well, for me anyway, his last great album l think being Songs From the West Coast. I know the songs like Circle of Life and Can You Feel the Love Tonight are popular, but to me they are no match for the songs he recorded early in his career.
Carole King, DJ .. give me a moment and I could come up with several Piano player/singers .. and really .. guitar and singing is the same issue .. they're playing an instrument and singing. Those days were simple and powerful indeed .. both. You take someone like Keith Urban .. who not only plays guitar but is an amazing genius with his guitar AND he is a great composer and brilliant singer. If I'm not mistaken this song is basically about Elton's friction with the studio. He talking about how they are trying to make him into something he doesn't want to be and that maybe saying goodbye to it all and walking away is the best thing for him to do. "Maybe you can replace me, there's plenty like me to be found, mongrels who aint got a a penny, sniffing for takers like you". Basically the studio/lable execs are vultures and there are other up-and-coming artists who would be willing to take whatever you are offering, but I'm not.
Yes! George sang a richer version than the original.... then Elton comes out with his much, much more richer, fuller, mature voice (than when he was younger), and lifted it even higher - incredible performance.

I saw Elton John live right before Covid hit. Wonderful concert! He had the biggest percussion section I have ever seen for a single artist.

Grew up on this type of music as a preteen while running around on the streets in South Brooklyn…enjoyed all types of music..including top 40 hits…watched American Bandstand, Soul Train, Hee Haw…to me it was when music was at it’s most artistic and pinnacle state.

I know this is how this song was supposed to sound at the time but God Angeline Jordan just elevated this song to a whole new level, she didn't just make it current like Simon Cowel said but also more emotional.

@@keithjones6023 I love his music and enjoy some of his older hits like rocket man and yellow brick road but the ones I love aren't the ones people usually first think of when you say Elton John. Like I love his song that he came out with in the 90s/00s "I want love". It had Robert Downey Jr. in the video. Also his Lion King hits! Lol
@@TraciKReacts My favourite Elton John songs are nearly all the early ones on albums like Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Tumbleweed Connection and my favourite album Madman Across the Water. It's always been his album tracks that have been the songs l have loved the most, so many great ones, Ticking being the very best for me. His later albums weren't as good, well, for me anyway, his last great album l think being Songs From the West Coast. I know the songs like Circle of Life and Can You Feel the Love Tonight are popular, but to me they are no match for the songs he recorded early in his career.

There is a certain reverb, and double tracking of the vocals that give Elton his signature "Ethereal sound". Sounds like floating on giant cloud.
Carole King, DJ .. give me a moment and I could come up with several Piano player/singers .. and really .. guitar and singing is the same issue .. they're playing an instrument and singing. Those days were simple and powerful indeed .. both.
You take someone like Keith Urban .. who not only plays guitar but is an amazing genius with his guitar AND he is a great composer and brilliant singer.
And hey .. that doesn't mean I don't like Elton John .. cause I do and always have .. but I'm 70 years old .. and have lived through many "eras" of music .. lots and lots of fine and hugely talented artists.

I saw both of them when they toured together in the early 90's (?). One of the best concerts I've ever been to!
If I'm not mistaken this song is basically about Elton's friction with the studio. He talking about how they are trying to make him into something he doesn't want to be and that maybe saying goodbye to it all and walking away is the best thing for him to do. "Maybe you can replace me, there's plenty like me to be found, mongrels who aint got a a penny, sniffing for takers like you". Basically the studio/lable execs are vultures and there are other up-and-coming artists who would be willing to take whatever you are offering, but I'm not.

Yes! George sang a richer version than the original.... then Elton comes out with his much, much more richer, fuller, mature voice (than when he was younger), and lifted it even higher - incredible performance.
