I lived in Staines for 22 years. You're right to point out the decent transport links - about the only good thing about Staines is that you can at least leave it very easily.
1. Staines is under rated because it has 'Staines Day'? God give me strength If Staines Day is so great, then we'll f***ing visit thanks We're not going to live somewhere so we can experience Staines Day once a year 2. Moments away from Heathrow Yeah, great. Constant plane noise, pollution and inflated prices! Fuck that! Spencer's out of his gourd 3. ’We also have a fantastic train line' Setting the bar low there Spencer EVERYWHERE has a f***ing train line lol This is not the 1840s FFS Great motorway links Yeah, a massive car park. You can't get anywhere Spencer is trying to set a world record for how many times he can say 'fantastic' 4. That market looks sh*te 69 restaurants? Spencer, just use a different number Caffe Gusto looks anything but gourmet Everyone knows Spanish food is shite anyway I'll give Spencer credit for trying, but jesus christ he's reaching Staines council should give him a medal for this I’ve not seen such a valiant effort since the Normandy Landings
I would say it's overrated... 1. No supermarket in the town centre. 2. Dreadful pothole ridden road layout which bottlenecks everywhere thanks to the inadequate one river crossing. 3. Expensive parking unless you go into town after 7pm. 4. Extortionate council tax - a band C in Staines costs more than a band D in some neighbouring boroughs. 5. Every Sunday the town gets invaded by the Travelling community. 6. It's a high risk flood area as 2014 proved.
I always visioned Staines as a Middle (Upper)Class Area, for some reason, by no means poor. In comparison to other Citys/Towns in the UK today. Especially down South, you need alot of £££ to even consider buying a house/living close to London. Good info/insight from a Staines Massive residence.

It's underrated because Ali G calls it "da ghetto" and makes it sound horrible
