Thanks, great video. An interesting fact is the trackage is actually owned by the North Carolina Railroad, a state owned company. NC built it in the 1850's, spent most of its life leased to Southern, then Norfolk Southern. It is now operated with freight rights to NS.
I really love the horns of the Amtrak Piedmont. Unlike the standard Amtrak, there's something about these horns that make them sound so beautifully terrifying, like the screams of a devil rising up from the flames of the underworld.
Saw the thumbnail, had to click on it! That's how much of an F59PH fan I am. The Piedmont units have some serious K5LA's, really dig that metallic tone.
That’s a great way to describe that, I like it! That sound is a result of EMD’s practice of overpressurizing the air system and not restricting the horn inlet. You can hear it on early SD70MACs as well, they did this on all locomotives made from about 1993 to 2000. Not sure why.
Stuart Alvarez These EMD units are equipped with solenoid valves as opposed to actuating manual ones. These horns sound brash due to a high rate of pressurized air, somewhere around 140-150 PSI.
I live in NC and rode these trains throughout my college years; thanks for featuring them (might even catch the townhouse I used in Charlotte which happened to be across a road from the tracks)
Funny you uploaded this today. My 2 1/2 year old son has been obsessed with your videos and we’re actually boarding the piedmont to visit my mom in a few hours 😂
You probably already know this, but NCDOT is expanding their F59PH fleet by buying several of the units being retired by Metrolink, having already prepared 853, 859, and 871 for entry. I'm glad they're building a good "F59 Safe Haven".
They just need to cut the P2s off (as they're buying them from Metrolink) and then re-mount the K5LAs up in front right above the cab, and all will be good.
I think 2 or 3 are to be cab cars and the others are going to get some sort of Tier 4 upgrades. In terms of the horns, the sound on the F59 is different more because of the air supply than the horn itself.
The cars come from a variety of different backgrounds, including a few former USA hospital cars. All went through extensive rebuilds after purchase by NCDOT. They are pretty nice to ride in.
Amazing Vid as always Mike and me and my Mom were thinking of taking a Long distance Train for our next Vacation and if it was up to you which one is good from Chicago
I was actually thinking of the California Zephyr cause I always wanted to head to the Pacific and see the Rocky Mountains but it's a hard Choice to be Honest
This was another video that was pushed back to 2019 because I started doing the 4K videos last year. Just a few more left and then they'll all be in 4K
I live in NC and regularly see these trains everyday.
Thanks for the support of NC
Me to bro
same
I live in NC too.
Thanks, great video. An interesting fact is the trackage is actually owned by the North Carolina Railroad, a state owned company. NC built it in the 1850's, spent most of its life leased to Southern, then Norfolk Southern. It is now operated with freight rights to NS.
Thank you James, I was not aware of that!
Awesome video! Thanks for showcasing North Carolina.
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching!
another train channel to another train channel
I live NC so train all day
The NCDOT's F59PHI horns sound different than the ones we used to have on the Surfliner!
They are beautiful, I must say.
Agreed I miss the f59s I grew up with their amazing beautiful 2nd gen k5las
Yes, they're a little different!
I can Tell
They kinda sound the same when I hear them.

I rode my first Amtrak train in North Carolina last week from college, on the piedmont of course!
Nice!
I live in North Carolina and I am glad I do. I saw the 611, Silver Star, Piedmont, and Carolinian in this state.
also I have seen Thomas and Tweetse Railroad
Great to see North Carolina railways. By looking at the track, a lot of money has been spent. Must pop over and see it,the location looks gorgeous
Yes, there are a lot of nice locations along the route.

Same here
They're about to get several more too!
The piedmont’s trains are cool, same for Norfolk southern, awesome video.

Amazing train action you’ve got there coasterfan!
Thank you!
You gotta love those F59PHI horns
I live in NC and rode these trains throughout my college years; thanks for featuring them (might even catch the townhouse I used in Charlotte which happened to be across a road from the tracks)
You're welcome! Thanks for commenting and watching!
That familiar sound that brings us socal foamers to a better time
SanDiegoRailfan399 yep we all know
Funny you uploaded this today. My 2 1/2 year old son has been obsessed with your videos and we’re actually boarding the piedmont to visit my mom in a few hours 😂
Haha, that really is pretty funny!
Outstanding video, Mike! Many thanks for showcasing North Carolinas train!
You're very welcome - thanks for watching!

Well let’s hope their horns don’t get too bad, cause that’s what happened to the other ones for the Pacific Surfliner, and the cascades
They just need to cut the P2s off (as they're buying them from Metrolink) and then re-mount the K5LAs up in front right above the cab, and all will be good.
They could instead use P5s then.
But when it gets a little close, it’s not that hard to hear
I think 2 or 3 are to be cab cars and the others are going to get some sort of Tier 4 upgrades. In terms of the horns, the sound on the F59 is different more because of the air supply than the horn itself.
Thank you so much for showcasing some NC trains!! Me and my mamaw always go to see the “Star Train” as we call it when it comes in Salisbury
Yessss! My state!
Edit: Can you do NC train altogether?
I'm from NC too
I want to eventually!
CoasterFan2105 Nice
3 Locomotives seems like over kill!
One might just be along for the ride then.
Yeah, seems like a lot! My guess is that one of them was just on the train for testing after repair work or qualifying them for entering service.
Good ole NC! Glad we gave ya some good action Mike!
Sure did! Thanks for watching!
I've never been to North Carolina before but I would love to go there sometime in the future and taking videos of trains.
It's worth the trip!
Nothing makes me happier than your videos! Oh and BTW, I see these ar my local railroad crossing!
Nice video still can't believe another piece of Amtrak's history is leaving..... the viewliners
I think the Viewliners will be around for quite a while. All the new baggage cars are viewliners as well. Thanks for watching!
Do you mean the NCDOT owned cars? If so, they got a FRA grant to replace most of them
Awesome video!! Will you do more videos in NC? Also did you visit the new Amtrak station in Raleigh
Thanks and I hope to eventually! I have not gotten a chance to see the new Raleigh station yet.
Very nice video of all the passenger trains.
When did they start putting their entire locomotive roster on one train? Lol
Haha I think they were testing one of the locomotives after repairs but I could be wrong.
Man those horns are loud
CoasterFan2105 Amtrak Piedmont still has F59PHs and F59PHIs right?
Sebastian Floyd what else do they have lol
@@sebastianfloyd372 they still do yes
Great looking trains!
They are!
Underrated state and underrated trains
Thanks for catching these trains like me.
This will be my first train ride. It looks like it scoots along pretty fast.
I love your vids man, Keep Up the good work!
You make the best train video in the whole wide world.
I really love this video I feel like are commuter rail is out spoken
I Love seeing my state being featured on CF2105! Another great video Mike!
Why so they need three locos for three coaches on the state supported trains
so that the engine can be moved somewhere to be put on another train possibly? PTC could be another reason
My guess is testing after repair work.
Great footage! Thanks for coming to NC and capturing my favorite rail service! Hope you got to enjoy some BBQ and Cheerwine while you were visiting
You're welcome and thank you for watching and commenting! I did indeed have some great BBQ
yay! been waiting for this one for a while. Hope you enjoyed your trip!
same
hey mike welcome to our state
Великолепная съемка! Отличные ракурсы и звук! Локомотивы так мощно сигналят! Спасибо !!!

@@COWBOI28 Yeah, if I had the time
@@CoasterFan2105 yeah I plan on taking the Auto train next summer
@@COWBOI28 Nice, have fun!
I live in NC so I railfan these train all the time
Awesome shots man! The Carolinian also receives some funding from the state of North Carolina by the way.
Amtrak Trains are cool.
Yes they are!
Nice Video!
Thanks, Rhett!
What a amazing horn ☺
Awesome video!
Can’t say no to these fast beasts on the rails!
Nice video
Thank you!
The only thing that upsets me is the majority of the Amtrak trains are missing some of there horns they don’t sound it’s known as foul notes
nice catch.
Thank you!
2:16 Very nice background
Incredible Video:)
Thank you! :)
Nice. Nice seeing those old GO Transit F59PH's still being used. What type of coaches are those N.C. cars??
The cars come from a variety of different backgrounds, including a few former USA hospital cars. All went through extensive rebuilds after purchase by NCDOT. They are pretty nice to ride in.
Amazing Vid as always Mike and me and my Mom were thinking of taking a Long distance Train for our next Vacation and if it was up to you which one is good from Chicago
Thank you! The two with the best scenery are probably the Empire Builder and the California Zephyr, but they're all great!
I was actually thinking of the California Zephyr cause I always wanted to head to the Pacific and see the Rocky Mountains but it's a hard Choice to be Honest
BEST DIESEL TRAINS EVER!!!!! :-D
Thanks, Kev!
0:30 what uses those nice concrete tracks with the catenary?
Nathan Zhang light rail
Charlotte light rail.
I hope this corridor will upgrade also by replacing new charger and coaches
I see these all the time
Those Piedmont trains should get Chargers. What area your favorite crossing bells?
I like most of the old mechanical bells.
@CoasterFan2105 You Should Do Trains In Indianapolis Indiana
Finally my state 😃
:D
CoasterFan2105 where’s the NCDOT passenger railyard at?
Same
Super Video 🇮🇳
Thank you!
Hello from florida
Nice, finally :)
Yup! :)
I've seen that train pass and man it's fast
Country tracks, take me back, to the placccee, where I belong! Charlotte, Raleigghhh eee, an a long the way, High point and Salisbur ee’!
Why does the f59ph always need to use the amtrak surfliner horn on each train I want to hear a new one!!
I haven't been there for a long time.
Woah that train had 3 locos and 3 passenger cars
Why does the Piedmont Corridor need three locomotives to pull 3 and 4 coaches?
I think that one of them was being tested following repair work.
The second video of North Carolina train is video from Charlotte,NC
What time did amtrak 80 go thru back creek church rd
I didn't know you were in CLT recently
Not too recently, this was filmed a little while ago.
In Greensboro I see a lot of piedmont trains d a lot even Amtrak I have seen the Amtrak charger locomotive
I was on there yesterday
What's the track speed down there?
It varies, but I think max speed on the line is 79 MPH
I might Book my trip
1:15 My favorite part
Nice
Thanks!
The best of North Carolina Mike a brand new f59ph ex metrolink f59ph are sold rncx
Several of them have been sold to North Carolina!
CoasterFan2105 that good Mike
Be cool if we had more than just the piedmont and the Carolinian
Sehr gut
Danke
This is my Amtrak in North Carolina
how many cars do these Amtrak's pull?
Will you do a Iowa trains video
Eventually!
The locomotives paint scheme looks like amtrak California a little bit
Copyright 2018? Not sure why, nice video though! 👍
This was another video that was pushed back to 2019 because I started doing the 4K videos last year. Just a few more left and then they'll all be in 4K
i live near the city of durham!!!
Why do they need so many engines for such a short train?
I think one was being tested following repair work.
Why doesn’t nctdot lease a Amtrak cab car
now 2 engine use push pull 1 at each end makes sense
1:51 what kind of K5LA is that?
0:54 I spy a school bus
1:02 I spy on another school bus
I have a friend in NC he used to come to my school and move to NC bc his dad had a new job there
My big brother live there
3:21 what is that white thing on the side ? Can you Pls respond
I think it’s a Norfolk southern MOW car
Please make toy trains galore 6
I will next year!
