Great explanation provided, thanks much for the excellent education. The title grabbed my attention as I have a monster ash tree that's been ravaged by insect activity and in need of removal. I'll be practicing my bore cutting technique on smaller trees before I get to the big ash but I determined to take the tree down.
I recently bought a 572 that had spark plug stripped out. I put a heli coil in it and had to buy a top cover and bar for it. I have $100 in it and i like it. But only have about 20 minutes of run time on it so far.
Easy start - 6100! You're welcome to try mine if you want. Compression...just got a ported 288, oof! That thing is getting a decomp! Recommend the 390, love my 2188, it's like a 372 with power ;-P
Great question, I guess it works on any tree. Ash has really strong fibers so putting a little more effort to bore cut as much as possible and to have the hinge out of the money wood is a focus. Where the back of the hinge is the spot of tension & potential pulls even chairs start. Also being on flat ground. Tree's with a more "brittle" fiber allow for less care as the hinge breaks ; so more conventional face cuts & Humboldt's work fine & if speed is a priority are preferred. About the only styles better on ash are more fringe styles like jump cutting, where the direction of fall doesn't need to be as controlled. ( And the feller is much younger & still has fast feet )
Glad you're back!!

I was just looking for a clean 390. Bought a 545 the other day. Love that little saw with the easy start. My every day saws are a modded 562 and 395.

Good to see you again
Great video. I'd like to see a 390 video. I like to see saw builds.
Do you not just use this strategy for any tree? What makes it particular to ash?
