The fact that he went ahead with the paternity test at the insistence of his mother shows that no matter how abusive his mother gets, he will always be on her side not yours. Also, I grew up in a home where the parents stayed together for the sake of the children. You have no idea how toxic that environment was. If he refuses to stand up to his mother, leave. Take a Space Shuttle to get out as fast as possible.

I would've prefered for op to give an ultimatum. I give you the paternity test but you go NC with your toxic mother or divorce.
There is no need to make MIL apologize, just expose her as the reason on why the marriage failed and why he is only going to have visitation rights.

These Op’s barely do that. People still have the mindset: I must stay together for the child(ren). Unaware of the fact it’s only more toxic for the child(ren) to stay together.

Never ask for the test. You're a parent too, you can just go do it yourself.
Asking for the test literally just shows your hand and starts a fight. If she is cheating she's gonna get defensive, and if she isn't she's going to be ready to kill you because you just accused her of cheating over something she has no clue looked suspicious.
Asking for the test only gets you anywhere if you already have proof she cheated and are deciding if you want to fight for custody.

@@Garoslolno more like those extreme feminist stereotypes. Literally they hate men in general. They scream divorce with even the smallest things. I’m divorced myself and I would never give someone the advice to do that. It’s not my place only if the situation is really life threatening. I’ve a married friend and she talks to me, I’ve never adviced leave him or get divorced. I know they belong together and will figure it out eventually. Their problems aren’t huge or not fixeable. And I’m still on good terms with my ex husband. He is like a friend I guess.

Yeah I'm not a fan of women jumping straight to divorce, if paternity tests are wanted but I get it in this case to a degree, men have insecurities too and someone whispering in your ear all the time doesnt help, not that he's justified, just that I can see his perspective too.
