  • Welcome to "POD" where we witness the incubation of an alien lifeform as it lurches and strains while developing from a pod to its fully developed state when it disappears into the mist to live out its existence forever hidden.
This Mandelbulb3D animation was really fun to make! It was challenging for sure, but that only added to the enjoyment of this project. The graphic was made with the Mandelbulb3D fractal generator application (version 1.9.9.37) and consists of four formulas: _JuliaSets, IcosahedronIFS, ABoxPlatinumB and koch_oct. The animation consists of 9,768 frames that required 20 days and 23 hours to render by a Ryzen 5700 16 core PC at an average rendering time of 2.7 minutes per frame.
This "POD" animation was assembled with DaVinci Resolve Studio 18.6 (www.blackmagic.... The fog was made in Fusion using the particle system. I spent the majority of this project's video editing time building and perfecting the fog - I think it turned out well. The wonderful and interesting music of the soundtrack is named "Magical & Mysterious" by AllenGrey (Envato Market) who is one of my favorite royalty-free music artists. I knew immediately that this soundtrack was a perfect fit for watching our lifeform develop.
For Mandelbulb3D Enthusiasts; this animation was made entirely without using the Navigator of the Mandelbulb3D application. Rather, this animation was made using the MutaGen tool where I set the MutaGen controls to very slightly mutate the properties of the formulas to obtain each of the 23 keyframes. I changed the bulb's position itself using the controls in the lower left corner of the Main Editor. As can be seen, the graphic perspective changes, but the camera position itself never changes, which is what the Navigator controls. This animation approach is, of course, a tricky and time-consuming process but resulted in an interesting perspective where the primary subject (our POD) remains center-screen, yet has motion.
