- On 15 Feb 2017 I visited the Gariep Dam, South Africa's largest water reservoir. At the time it was at 61% of capacity, but by the time of publishing a week later it was already at 73%.

What a masterpiece. Well done to the engineers and everyone else who took part in building this masterpiece of civil engineering
Indeed SA is a beautiful country ,nice to see enough water ,spend since 1998 ten times a holiday in SA ,whis you all the best from Holland
Thank you Ellie, glad you enjoyed it.
Nice video, thanks. However, sadly missing is the inlet to the Orange-Vis tunnel at Oviston, which is one of the interesting features of the Gariep Dam. I know it was mentioned some years ago by Johannes Weitz, but I wanted to bring it up again because Oviston is situated on the farm Zeekoegat which is adjacent to my great-grandfather's farm, Beschuitfontein.
I can only thank God that this beautiful dam is tucked away nice and far so that we don't make a mess of it and I hope we stay away from this dam and leave it just as it is...thanks for the video.
Valid point Ricky.
Excellent video Dirk. Thanks for sharing it. This dam is an example of the first class infrastructure that the previous regime left us.
Glad you enjoyed it Roger.
Thanks Dirk Grobbler, we need information like this, is our national pride, thanks once more👍
Thanks Dirk for and awesome display of our beautiful country I love watching your vidoes
Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it Rafiek.
It was a beautifull country, before the ANC took over! Most of our country are in shambles! Another 2 tires from 1 pothole in Duncanville, Vereeniging! Whats left of it should be protected with everything in us!! Thank you for beautifull pictures!
You are welcome Mary-Ann, we do live in a beautiful country.
I just came back from the dam. Passionate about our country
Indeed an engineering marvel! Hats off!
Ja. South Africa still is a beautiful country. What a dam.
Beautiful indeed
Baie dankie Dirk. Love from Geneva.
I like the beautiful water it is very peaceful.its feel like as I was at the beach.lots of fresh water to drink.now that's a heaven view from above I say thank you in jesus name.
Awesome video and fantastic photography. Thank you!
Thank you Gerard.
Hello Dirk, nice and informative video, reminds me of home. Yonks ago I was at school in Rustenburg as a kid and hot summer weekends we could sometimes go and swim at Hartebeespoort dam. Baie Dankie
Very nice video. 50% of PE water come from the Gariep dam via pipeline to the eastern part of the metro city to Coega Kop reservoir.
Beautiful!
Dirk part of the Dam is the inlet at Oviston, you can drive a bus in that tunnel that runs underground for approximately 85 kilometer. The outlet is in Steynsburg District on your way to Middelburg, You can visit the tunnel as it runs underground close to the mountains Koffiebus and Teebus. You can also visit the place where the water from the Gariep Dam as it exit the tunnel, runs into a Canal towards a dam and then the Fish River. The tunnel can carry 55 cubic meter of water per second.
Thank you for sharing such interesting information Johannes. Much appreciated.
Everything about this video is so beautiful even you music is so nice
Thank you Thulani. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
wow.. been there many times but never seen it from these amazing angles. thanks for sharing!
It surely is beautiful. Would love to be there when it overflows.
We need more dams. Our population is growing.
yes I admit, we live in a beautiful country
You lost it to ape s unfortunately.
yes it is a beautiful country....i used to live in south africa.... thanks for the nice video.
Thanks to the Africans British,Dutch, German for building this amazing country.
Pragtig soos gewoon Dirk.
Thank you for this beautiful video! 👍😃
Great footage/ interesting..
Would like to see it at the moment for a direct comparison..
I used to work for the CSIR in the 1970s doing studies on SA reservoirs. Some of them used to have water almost as clean as distilled water. Hartbeespoort was one such dam. We did surveys and told government what was going bad. Nobody listened but just kept polluting almost every river in the Gauteng and north west areas. It’s got worse since the 1990s with municipalities unable to treat sewage properly. You need videos such as this one to be done for every dam and shown weekly on tv. You’ve got a lot of travelling and talking to do Mnr Grobler.
Thank you for sharing Dan. Believe you me if I had my way I would be travelling our beautiful country making drone videos of all beautiful places.
Great video Dirk. Surely I'm going to share this one with my kids.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you Sir. You have also shown the holiday houses.
My pleasure Hichson.
Amazing what projects the previous goverment has done. What projects can the current goverment show thats a success and benefit to all?
These past two decades we didn't have enough rainfall. So we should built more dams. Do you think that South Africa is turning into a desert?
Your work is amazing and very educational... it so heartwarming that you dont fall for the bait of ascerbic politics from people. This approach will lead to many more being touched by your talented, positive lens.
Thank you for your kind words Tebogo.
Exellent video. Thank you. A pity, the ANC will either polute it or some nut will open the wrong valve and run it dry. They do not appreciate anything.
i would hopefully visit in the new year . i also suggest this be aired on national TV to showcase our national treasure and educate our masses on why we should not pollute waste and damage our natural resources
You are welcome Peter, thank you.
Informative, thank you
Stunning 🥰
Thank you! 😊
Good video ji
thank you very much for your good job
Thanks Gopal Naidu, I am glad you enjoyed the video.
I wouldn't agree that South Africa is a beautiful place
awesome!!!
Baie dankie Dirk.
Very informative. THANKS
why are we suffering from Load shedding while we have Dams like this who can Generate Power for the whole country if all combined.
Maybe power stations need maintenance??
Maybe power lines need maintenance??
Maybe the relevant authorities have other areas they are spending their tax revenues on??
Hendrik Verwoerd was the main sponsor of the dam...😂😂😂😂
Great video.I just wonder how much Mega liters we are losing per day due to evaporation.
Need more dams on the way to ograbies . That way more water for irrigation . More hydro power .
A recent study has found that the Gariep river is already over-utilized.
There is a dam and Hydro sceme between Kakamas and Keimoes, called Neusberg.

Good dam
Why are there only cranes for the sluice gates on one side?
Excuse me in which country is this. Please introduce properly at the beginning and who you are .?
South Africa
Yes beautiful it is

Nice, DIRK
In Wich county Yo
I want your drone!😅
On my way!
Hi
Baie mooi.
Dankie Tanya.
Lot of erosion somewhere to make water that color?

Lovely country. Pity the ANC has wrecked it beyond all measure. I'm so sad I had to flee after 59 years. I will never go back, not for anything.
Lool dont come baba we don't need negetive peaple like u,
@@thobanimthethwa2081 Negative? There is absolutely nothing to say that's positive about South Africa. How can anyone be positive when you're facing economic collapse, starvation and war? After living overseas I will NEVER go back.
Can I fish there?
I am sure there are nice fishing spots.
Got 3 properties near the gariep dam
You must surely enjoy the area.
wat is die groen in die water? Alge?
Baie goed gedoen.
Dankie Johan.
I crashed my drone between the bridge🙈
Lol..
Who’s here for school 🤣🤣
Mnr dirk
Hi Collins. Glad to see you found the good stuff.
We indeed live in a beautiful country 🇿🇦, but??? The ANC is destroying it.

SA is beautiful, unfortunately fell into apes hands.
Rubbish that's the HF Verwoerd Dam
Corruption dam
Dear Eric,
Do you enjoy drinking its water and using its electricity and eating the fruit and farm produce it supports. Perhaps you would like to avoid all of its benefits? Do you think South Africa is worse off now having this dam? Best wishes,
Why Eric???
Explain Eric..!?
@@michaelbotha4176 Eric can complain, but Eric can not explain.
Is this an Africa problem?
Or is it worldwide an African problem?
