We get tons of junk mail and store flyers. There is a sawmill close by we can get tons of free sawdust from. I will be making these for our garage wood stove! Thanks for solving the junk mail problem and providing fee heat. We also shred our paper. It works great in the compost bins too.

Good householder doesn't let anything go to waste. I recommend this life advice, it's great. I can also add that you can use ANY paper/cardboard packaging and waste that is left from your groceries. And woodchips - even greater, it's smart. Only avoid those boxes with shiny, silver foil inside (like juice cartons) because they pollute air when burned and should be recycled. Once again - such a good tutorial.

The inks and dyes on junk mail, magazines and food boxes also pollute, not just the plastic windows on envelopes. I hadn't thought much about that until I looked at what's allowed to be open burned in the state I recently moved too. NONE of those types of paper or cardboard are legally burnable because of the inks and dyes. And here I thought I was going to be able to cut my garbage hauling down some.

You can make candle clay pot heaters. Just be careful, but them on a metal tray and make sure they aren't close to or under anything. The paraffin wax could catch fire and leak out. Take a few precautions.
You can probably get a similar result from stacking a few bricks over a candle.

Like your video.....pretty cool. I have a (prepper friend) who likes this stuff and I had suggested that he use all the shredded paper he got from work (4 shredders there) as there seemed to be a endless supply of it. He has a second lawn mower that he never uses - places it on the outdoor table and lets the vacuum of the mower pull it up underneath into the blades - cutting the strips yet finer, then into the large grass catcher all neat & sweet! I do like the saw blade idea on final mulching - he uses a paint stir that hooks too the drill but puts an edge on one side of each prop blades with his grinder to get the cutting done. He is using some old bread loaf pans to form the bricks/logs - I believe he uses the smaller loaf pan size for a portable tent stove that does not take standard firewood sizes. He was using 4" PVC tubes cut at 14" for the first run...hope that help someone out there.

I picked this up in another video. I welded a 7 in saw blade on a 3/8 in rod and use that to grind things up. I made a press like your buckets, but I use a 4 in pvc pipe with holes drilled into the side and built a fence around it. Got tired of having to clean the pulp off my shoes. My press is a ladder type with 2x4's as the rungs with spaces in between at 1 5/8 inches, so I can use a 2x4 to press a plunder down on the pulp and squeeze out the water. After drying the finished logs don't burn well, they just smolder. Put some kerosene on them and they're good fire starters. The pulp log gets pushed out between 2 large blocks of wood and set somewhere to dry out. Next time I do this I'll throw in sawdust and see how that works. Thank you for the idea! (sawdust)

    This is perfect 👍
And if there are children in the house, or grandparents, they can help too.
You can set up the steps into "stations". Each step, or station has one of the children or grandparent doing their part and that way you're not doing every log all by yourself. Perhaps the adult does the " mixing" step of course, because that part requires an adult, at least if using a saw blade mixer 😉,
But the children could cut the paper with scissors, little children love cutting, also it would give grandparents a good feeling to help be a part at that station too. And at the molding station, children can mold the logs into bread tin molds, and children can add the water, yes, it can a become a fun family affair with stations and each person take pride in their part of log making and stock piling.
    * Also,
Have the grandparents save their paper trash and bring it over so you all have even more logs to make! 👍🙂

You can put yourself on a master mailing list at the post office and receive all the junk mail you could ever want! Don't forget dryer lint, used chopped up crayons and candles, toilet paper rolls, cardboard, old telephone books, and catalogs. Invest in a paper shredder, or collect from shredders at businesses, and old leaves, grass clippings, and hay, work as well. You can also use a 6 inch wide by 12 inch long PVC pipe, sprayed with Pam cooking spray on the inside, to form a more professional log shaped appearance. Bread pans work as well, or build a rectangular form out of 2 by 4's. Wrap them with Saran wrap or dry cleaning bags, and sell them, or use them for barter when the grits hit the fan.

Magazines, junk mail and colored gift-wrapping paper may seem like harmless items to burn. Only use plain newspaper or uncoated paper in your fireplace, and use it sparingly. While you should generally not burn paper, it is acceptable to use a small amount of tightly rolled, plain black-and-white newspaper as kindling. Make sure to place it between small bits of wood and avoid any paper with colors or gloss. But the ink printed on the paper releases toxic fumes when burned.

Take another scrap piece lay it on top and use some clamps to squish it down and drain the water. I would drill some holes into the bottom and side like he did the bucket so water can drain out. I’m very frugal myself, I would always save cardboard junk mail etc. We would even have to burn the Pineneedles sometimes for starter. But this is one of those times where I said wow, that’s awesome. Thanks for the info. I don’t have a fireplace right now even though I live in the mountains but I’m going to make some for my friends

Nice idea I always wondered if you could use leaves, shred them add some sort of bonding agent and press them into logs. There bags and bags of them at the curbs this time of year all over......... Glenn P.

You can add coffee grinds too. It will smell great and do the same as saw dust. They even sell the starter logs with the coffee smell

Have you done this with the coffee ground? How do you get the grounds to bond with the paper and what percentage of grounds to paper are you using?

@@marilynreno7510 I have not done it. Just seen the starters that smell like coffee. If you try I would start with a small number of grounds and work up until you find the perfect consistency. Good luck! Great smells :]

I live in WA state and when I was in Girl Scouts we put wax and sawdust in cardboard egg cartons for fire starters. I know I'll get haters but I fill up cardboard egg cartons with leftover grease and burn that. It makes a good fire.

@@carlasabyan6010 you can also burn vegetable and fruit peelings/ seeds. I have raccoons so composting doesn't work for me.

Tried making the compressed paper briquettes. I have several down ponts I've found
1, drying them (I have some made i autumn and are still wet)
2, the briquettes produce a large quantity of ash when compared to wood

dryer lint burns pretty well. My cats use litter that is pine pellets that break down into saw dust. I think that maybe for outside fire starter logs, it might work very well.
