I rescued a pigeon and have had it since March. Yellow feathers, not flying, fed by hand. It’s in a crate like yours. I released him not thinking he’d come back, started to release him early mornings and he would return around noon. Have been doing this for months. I would open the garage and he would fly right in and into this crate. He would sit on my shoulder while I did yard work. Walk up to me while I tinkered in the garage. Recently he started to bite me. Once he’s calmed down he would let me pet him and coo. I’m thinking he found a mate? Territorial? Learning from other birds? I wasn’t home one evening and he was waiting on the neighbor’s roof. As soon as I open the garage he flew in. Maybe it’s time to release and not let him back in? 😬 he’s maybe 10 months old.
Sadly I didn't realise afterward I had my microphone on the wrong setting but had already taken pidgie to the rescue by then. Ill be sure to check carefully next time!
@@thecrazypigeonlady8731 how so you measure pigeon age to human age. As I have a pigeon hen. Who I saved 4 years ago. She loves me only wants me. Etc. How old would she be if she was human. Is is 4 years old
@@matthewedwards8441 I tend to think of it in terms of how far the bird is through their expected lifespan. A domestic pet pigeon might live 15 on average, so if a bird is 4 years old, its a little over a quarter of the way through its life. The current human life expectancy in the UK is 80 years, a quarter being 20. So using this analogy, your bird might be roughly equivalent to a young person in their 20s in their prime. Hope that helps :-)
Thanks for this. Would you mind showing us through all your pigeon-related books? Those behind you look tantalising! I'd like to know which volumes you most recommend.
Hey this video has been super helpful for my partner and I! Would you be able to do a video on your setup for housing temporary rescue intakes? For example we have a pigeon with a broken foot with us right now who's staying overnight until the rehabber can collect. Our setup is less than ideal but we don't have much money or resources! It'd be really helpful to see the most ideal setup you'd recommend, the one behind you looks very spacious! Even for different injuries too idk, and maybe things you would recommend for a makeshift setup for someone new to this? Just a suggestion but I'd really love to see your in depth advice on this!

I'm taking care of a baby pigeon. He/she was only 3 weeks old when i find him, he was in good condition but basically a baby. So i decided to take care of him, giving food and going to the vet for a revision. I'm from Spain but i didn't find any organisation to gave him so i continue with him. I have a dog and my mum (i live with her) has respiratory problems so it would be better for both of us to not create a bond so i hope he wants freedom before me 😢 my little baby
Hi, I recently rescued two white pigeons from pretty rough conditions on craigslist. I’ve owned several other birds before, but never pigeons. I do know that one is male and one is female. They are not hand tamed, but now that they’re in a much calmer environment they’ve decided to begin attempting to mate! I’m not too sure what to do. They are inseparable, so I fear there may not be any avoiding them having little squabs. If that truly is the case, I’d love to try and find a way to create the best conditions for them
Hi, I will be adding an episode on nesting and breeding to my Pigeons as Pets playlist so please follow the channel and get notified when its posted :-) In the meantime the most important thing is a good diet, calcium and replacing the eggs with fake eggs so you dont get any oops babies! You can buy fake pigeon eggs online. Suggest you also join Pigeons as Pets - The Perfect Pet facebook group as there are lots of pet owners on there who have mated pairs :-) good luck!

@@Justin-vo4qp providing the bird is not a baby and is weaned and self feeding then it should be given a standard pigeon feed mix which you can get online or from larger pet stores. The pigeon will need to grow its tail back in before it could be released. Good luck!
Thank you for all this vital info!

How’s he doing now?

We can't understand what you're saying; the recording is very bad. Why didn't you play autogenerated subtitles, so at least we could read.
