call me old fashioned but in my world the components go on the opposite side of the board from the solder pads when using a through hole components....

That's just dumb. It is much better to use a Variable Capacitor than some gimmick to make a variable inductor.

I suppose if you use the soldering iron they use to keep cows and horses together, then you can solder on the wrong side of the board.
Yeah my quality department rejected the board. I guess consumer electronics you can get away with a lot of things. That iron is too big also. The flux is easier to remove from the solder side of the board. Now where is the conformal coating just kidding I just coated 17 boards. 73
Listening fm during train journey is amazing thing
This video has so much wrong with it, and is so choked with commercials for Altium Designer, it plays like a scam. No schematic is shown, and the component count, and component types, looks barely able to receive AM signals much less the more complex FM signals. There are a lot of webpages that investigate the simplest FM receivers, and they all have a lot more going on than this one, but at least with their schematics we can see how they work. Add to that, even if all transistors on the PCB are cleverly used to receive the FM signal, it sure looks like there is a deficit on remaining transistors to drive the 8 Ohm speaker, something that usually requires a few gain stages.
The video shows a pot and a couple trim caps being slightly adjusted, and for all we know, this is a fake where the circuit is not even doing anything, but a separate soundtrack is superimposed.
And who does PCB assembly by hand using tweezers, and soldering from the component side? Suspicious.
Without a schematic to add veracity, I think this is fishy.
Fishy is being ever so polite.. Min basic FM radio should have many more stages. Tuned front end, Local oscillator, mixer, IF amplifier and detector stages and audio amplifier.
Not only do you need to hear the station you want the others need to be blocked or filtered out. People need to do a little research on receivers. This is nothing more than a Cats whisker radio that was used on AM.

I made this radio receiver today and it received just one station at 89.1Mhz frequency. The quality of my receive is poor with a lot of harmonics. I don't know where my problem is coming from! I got every other thing right except the coil, I used SWG of 23 and obtained a six turns on a 5mm core. I don't what I should do to receive other frequencies and improve the quality on my radio. I was super excited because this is my first radio receiver ever built....
Well done ! This is a basic circuit. A 1/2 decent FM receiver is way more difficult. Google FM receiver chip, im sure something will pop up that you can build.

You can use an TDA 7000 fm receiver kit instead . It has better receiving quality if you choose the right components to drive it .

It‘s a plain old transistor receiver. Great Scott also made a video about such a receiver a while ago.

I would not be bothered I built an FM tuner in the 9th grade from radio shack and it picked up good but the trim cap needs a tuning capacitor trim caps don't last long if you keep changing stations. 73

If I understood your second question right, then this is the way to do it:
You can use a pen or any cylinder with the desired diameter, and wrap the wire around it to make a coil. and for the distance between the winded coils, while putting the pen inside the coil’s hallow, put a ruler on the outside while using a small screw to adjust the distance
They are both coils, one looks like a resistor but is a coil
