Rudolf Uhlenhaut did not own the SLR. He drove it as a company car also privatly but it remaind by Mercedes Benz. Rudolf Uhlenhaut once drove the distance of 220 km from Stuttgart to munich in 1 hour! On public roads!!!
A wonderful car in every sense of the word!! It will remain one of the Great icon of the Autosport world!! I am however disappointed that Audi never made a street friendly competitor to this car and it’s derivatives!!
Holy SH#*! ... only 2 ever made... DAMN ... Awesome sounding machine.. So... showing up with this at Concours d'elegance or any of those other serious car shows... and pretty much this thing might as well steal the show on cheer rarity and pedigree ... jezz ... i will assume is sort of impossible to insure to drive on normal roads...
You neglected to mention the horrendous driving position, with the throttle and clutch on separate sides of the central gearbox tunnel; details perhaps…
One job you had. Wish you spent more time on the design details of the interior and engine. I am giving you a 1 of 10. Go see how Blondie did justice to this machine.
When Ulenhaut used the 300SLR to drive around Europe it had a huge, ugly muffler hung outside the car so it wsn't as bad as this test drive inside or outside.
The Mercedes-Benz SLR isn't only music itself.........it's a symphony! Playing background music whilst starting the SLR is completely unnecessary & frankly a little aggravating.
Todays sports- and racecars are faster and with better handling and every ape can drive it and even buy it, because of credit. But, in its time, this Uhlenhaut Coupé has a soul. And there are two of them ever built. Today you see Lamborghinis, Ferraris etc. on every corner. And the law killed cars like this. Most important job of the police is, to chase cars which drives more than 85 miles/hour or are a little bit over the noise limit. in the 50s and 60s, there were no speed and noise limits! What a boring world human created!
Probably the BEST car ever built .

God thanks, 1955 was no Traffic jam on the Autobahn.
A car not even Jay Leno can buy: nice!
Oh he could if it were for sale
@@timhitt9541 sold today for 136 Mio Euro... i think Jay Leno is not rich enough or?

Finally right? 😄 🤣 😂 😆

Most beautiful Mercedes of all times... Uhlenhaut was genie
Simon: You lucky Bastard! My favorite car from before you were born ;-)

Starting it up is like an old aircraft, beautiful car😎
1:51 ... crowding the centerline like a Boss.
Absolutely a masterpiece of its time,
it is the most beautiful and best car on the planet ,,,, an absolute stone, only the Germans could have produced it.
How did he get to drive it ? The only mechanic allowed to work on it can’t drive it ? That’s an injustice.
See how supercar blondie gives justice for it..
@@jerwinposilero557 its a joke that she is allowed near that car
Unbelievable! holy grail is appropriate...
Were any ever recreated ? Did they use the Rolf Meyer body buck ?
I'm annoyed that the music started as soon as the engine started, what's the point of tainting the sound of the engine with that shit?._.
Unfortunately, that seems to be the norm today in motor car videos - totally unnecessary and quite annoying!
Lol, because the motor noise includes the music as well, dahh. Why would they fake the motor noise?

Fun fact: Uhlenhaut used it as a daily car and of course everybody wants to have a neighbour who starts his SLR at 06:00 a.m. for driving to work 😱😡😖
German engineering ❤️🙏
Only two #00 SLR's were built as gull wings. All the rest were built as open tops.
That is, what Jochen Mass said.
Amazing man built amazing car amazing people by this car unic car
and now it's the most expensive car in the world
You can buy it. 142.000.000 $
why would they let him drive it?
Amazing car 🙂👌🇵🇹
Just sold for $143 million? Lord have mercy 😮
Yeah thats insane price😳
What is that covered hole on the leading edge of its hood?
Intake for the inlet manifold I think
@@PunksloveTrumpys, that's what it seems. But I've never seen it open not even in races.
It's the air intake for the fuel injection system. It's actually not covered, it's a fine piece of screening to keep out foreign particles.
Show the whole dang engine WTH!
only two of this car´s exist . the price is awesome ....between 100.000.000 to 300.000.000 million dollars .....
At 5,30 its a different cr as it has hubcaps, not knock offs..
nope
Look again. You'll find you mistook a closeup of the knockoff's centre at 5:33 for a hubcap.
Lucky guy very few were allowed to drive now sold in2022 for 135m euros

this car sold for like 140 million plus!!
unrelated: the lancia stratos causes a riot in the head every time i see it, the mind riots at once if think about one
Why did they let hm drive it?
Because of who he is. Legendary collector!
err, i'm a bit curious as to how they will "recreate" such a unique
vehicle without a "donor" car to dismantle first ??
+borromeo50 This is a German car. They could well have drawings and plans still
why would they recreate one. They have two of them in the museum with one getting regulator outings.
Why would you put music over the actual sound??? Jesus... makes no to little sense!
It's damn noice
132 euro million sold 👍👍👍🤠🤠👍👍🕵♂️🕵♂️🕵♂️
Whos looking because of the Crew?
Observation: "Allo Cars" in Anheiser Busch font? (vomit sound).
I own a sign shop and detest any use of that font other than beer cans.

Brutish sex on wheels. Makes a standard Gullwing 300 look downright stodgy.
I would like one for winter driving :)

Yah, just driving that to Orient Point would give me a bloody headache. No thanks.
