Tuncay and Tugay were Champions League quality players that were overlooked by bigger European Clubs. Even to this day I feel like Turkish talent isn't given enough of a shot. Maybe this current young generation, players like Cengiz, Caglar and Merih will change that perception.

Tuncay and Tugay were Champions League quality players that were overlooked by bigger European Clubs. Even to this day I feel like Turkish talent isn't given enough of a shot. Maybe this current young generation, players like Cengiz, Caglar and Merih will change that perception.

We Fenerbahçe fans seriously disappointed as were expected him to sign top european clubs. No offence, Middlesborough had a good team in that time and hard nut to crack. He was one of the top quality wingers in Europe . He was tenacious and gifted player with his dribbling and finishing skills. I used to watch Middlesbrough games for him and I know most football fans in Turkey were supporting Middlesbrough just because of him . Middlesbrough were smart enough to know this guy was built to either be a shadow striker or a forward and that is how they used him.
You'd have to be insane to put a guy like Tuncay on the wing. Fener playing him on the wing all those years probably stunted his development. They did the same to Burak Yilmaz I believe.

Sure lol Tuncay was so special... you could see him running across uninspected places of the pitch, I believe he was able to play in every position and is truly amongst rare players who were breathing soccer (fun fact: he shortly took GK's role in Euro 2008)
