    I found a useful trick for measuring pasta - if I want to have two bowls full of pasta, I'll measure out one bowlful in the bowl I'm going to eat it in, and since pasta expands to about double when it cooks, it will make 2 bowls full. (Or if you're going to eat it on a plate, you can measure out one plateful of pasta). You can measure more if you're cooking for more than one person.

    Because I am in Australia, it is spring onions for scallions, eggplant for aubergine and zucchini for courguettes. The latter names do not exist here. Also we call butternut squash butternut pumpkin without exception.

    Hi Lisa, great video as always.
    I wonder if you have any tips on improving iron levels since you previously recommended the savoury oatmeal.
    I recently learnt about Korean culture and motherhood. Unfortunately I forgot the name of the person that assists the mother after she gives birth.
    Even though I'm not interested in becoming one, I think that should be applied to all cultures, celebrating new mothers and getting them to get better since pregnancy depletes the body from a lot of iron, vitamins and so on.
    Sorry for the rant, I'm craving the scallion pancakes now :D

    • @Thevietvegan

      So my doc and I pinpointed that the calcium tablets (Tums) I was taking for my heartburn were inhibiting my iron absorption haha, so I tried not relying on them as much. The last couple months I've been trying to be diligent about eating lots of beans, seaweed, dark chocolate, leafy greens (paired with something like tomatoes or lemon juice for vitamin C), cooking with cast iron, and I sometimes take a liquid iron supplement too (Spatone). My levels bounced back really quickly after a month and my heartburn subsided a bit, so we're back on track :)

    I saw Maangchi do these. She makes Korean scallion pancakes and uses a looser batter, but I’m not sure what other cultures do. Your way is different and would be delish!

    I don't want to impede on how you should take your vitamins, only would like to notice to you that vitamins taking with orange juice (potentially) impares the uptake of the vitamins. As components in orange juice (either fresh or store bought) make that fat soluble vitamins are not taken up so wel. This can also be said for thenin in tea or caffeine in coffee.
    I don't know the specifics behind it, but my GP told me to take it in only with water, just to be safe you take up as much of the vitamins you take.

    • @Thevietvegan
      @Thevietvegan  2 роки тому +3

      I usually take my vitamins a couple hours after I have coffee, but orange juice (specifically the Vitamin C) actually helps absorption of calcium and iron. As far as I've been able to research, there isn't anything in orange juice that inhibits absorption. For fat-soluble vitamins, eat foods with fat :) I had coconut yogurt + hemp seeds with the orange juice.

      @@Thevietvegan their scallion pancakes vs. ketchup spaghetti

    • @Thevietvegan
      @Thevietvegan  2 роки тому +2

      Oh you're referring to the American misappropriation of scallion pancake. I'm not sure, I'm not familiar with HK style cafes or the dish you're referring to. Are these cafes trying to say it's Italian cuisine? Are they aiming to celebrate Italian culture? There's also a type of Filipino spaghetti that uses ketchup (and that's culturally Filipino).
      For the American college situation, they were calling it a scallion pancake to celebrate "Asian" cuisine when it's clearly incorrect. A quick google of what a scallion pancake was would have told them that adding scallions to buckwheat & rice batter is not what scallion pancakes are.
