i didn't see the hero as a coward his fault was that he loved the people and got angry when his girl was killed. he had the chance to just leave and go back to earth but he chose to stay
The rules are laid out early that he can't leave. Also I don't see him as a coward, just that he's too proud given his powerlessness and imagined superiority, which the lie is put to early and often.
really? was he told that he can't leave? At the end he was offered to go back to earth when he told them that when they have to write about him, the should write that it's hard to be a God well you did call him "cowardly useless" :) hmmm I think he really was superior, intellectually and physically, I mean, he was never captured before and cut 372 ears off
It scared me. I have the DVD and tried a few times to watch it all the way through - now that we are in a global pandemic, with more heat, fires, floods and storms, Our is now a crashing world, I just put it up on the largest screen I can find and let it play, again and again. To see across the room scenes like that out the window - makes frames that are starting to merge. Might as well get comfortable with it. All the drama is contained in the title, the philosophic question, what is the obligation of a god? Soon, someone will make the movie of the same plot with an AI Being as hero. It will happen in life, or it will happen in a movie. The race is on. Ferociously exciting time either way. Stay alive kids, stay tuned, keep struggling you young gods.
Its the most amazing example of cinema thats been filmed/made. The only thing that prevented me from being sucked completely in was the sound of his instrument. He used the sound of a saxophone and because I played saxophone it messed with me.

"God, if you exist, stop me"
This is the most difficult cinematic experience I have ever had !
Agreed , very hard watch, it just feels grimey and filthy in a way I haven't seen in any other movie
How? Looks redundant.
