      Even Ford is using made-in-China components. The F150 is about 40% foreign-made, even though it's considered the most American of trucks. This is just the reality of our interdependent world. In my opinion, TM is being very pragmatic and realistic here, buying components that someone else can make cheaper and better. History is littered with failed corporations that had a "not invented here" mentality.

    The HYBRID cars of TOYOTA use between 4.5-6 L/ 100 KM, which is remarkable. Yet, it seems that the Chinese and BYD (helped by Geely) have reahced efficiency of under 3 L/ 100 KM. HOW????????????????? 1. bigger battery, which is used for speeds under 80km (ICE CARS ARE HIGHLY INEFFICIENT AT LOW SPEEDS) 2. the new 1.5 ICE engine is highly efficient by combining Direct Injection Turbo Charging, and a secret new TECH.. SO, THESE NEW CHINESE HYBRIDS USE 50% LESS GAS AS THE AVERAGE CAR ON THE ROAD....... MIND BLOWING.

      Current BYD hybrid efficiency is around the same as TOYOTA's, yet its more powerful. And as a PHEV with a large battery, people can use the car like a pure BEC and get more advanced entertainment system.

      It’s basically GM’s voltec plug in hybrid system but with better battery and continuous charging, too bad GM no longer wants to do this anymore they been losing money on every plug in hybrid ever since 2011 2012. If GM were to do BYD style hybrid it could have worked, maybe not plug in, because complicated electrical circuits and electricity supply management software combined with full self driving is headache.

    recently Japan published a manual book breaking down a BYD model thoroughly bit by bit, stating that every car engineer in Japan should read it
    price of the book was around 20,000 dollar a copy, not kidding

    • @ChickensAndGardening
      @ChickensAndGardening 3 місяці тому +6

      Wow who published that - some government bureau? That sounds like the Japanese, acknowledging and paying respect to a superior opponent like it's a sumo match! They did it to the U.S. all through the 1950s-60s and then surpassed the U.S. in almost every industry. Then Korea did it to Japan, and now China's doing it to all of us. Will Japan turn it around and outcompete China eventually? It'll be fascinating to watch this unfold.

    This is probably for the Chinese market. I have driven a Toyota Yaris Cross hybrid (here in Australia), I drove 1,000 km and got an average 4.5L per 100 km. at 110 km/h on freeways. The only reason I would look at their hybrids is that I can't afford an EV. There is a window at the moment where Toyota might do well, but this will change once EV's get cheaper. I have had my RAV4 for 25 years, in that time it has blown a tail light globe, water pump seal and timing belt (that's the full list of replaced items, apart from consumables). Have you ever owned a Toyota? This is all based on first-hand experience, nothing to do with advertising. Love your work but you can't be right all the time. Maybe the new Toyota hybrids will finally support "real" L2 charging. I "almost" bought a Prius Prime until I found out that their L2 charger operates at 1/5 the power of "real" L2 charging. Prius Prime max charging is 3.3 kW whereas "real" L2 maxes out at 19.2 kW. Public chargers charge you based on mins of use, not amount of power you use. So it'll cost you 5 times more to charge your Prius Prime at a public charging station. (I live in a condo that's not EV equipped, so I would have to rely on public charging.)

    Toyota's move to BYD's platform is a humiliating climb down. It looks like they can't even make a viable PHEV, let alone that imaginary Solid State Battery they were going to have in 2019. What a joke. Toyota need to get a grip, scrap the Hydrogen ICE and Fuel Cell nonsense, and figure out how to make a proper BEV. Around the turn of the century Toyota seemed forward looking, but it felt like they stagnated in that time and place. Were they busy with making progress, their batteries would gradually improve (bigger, more electricity, range) and eventually should have introduced plugging in and recharging. Now I did not keep track, but I cannot remember anything like that happening. So in effect, the Prius remained the less worse option but then with less promise for the future for the future came and left it behind.

    Adapt, change or go bankrupt. Toyota is too slow to go all in on electric vehicles.
    Legacy auto dealers are a nightmare for legacy auto makers. They gouged customers trying to buy electric vehicles.
    Legacy auto dealers abused their customers by adding market price adjustments to gouge their customers for EVs
    They added pricey add ons and other costs to pump up the prices and their profits.
    Tesla has the right idea. Buy online. No hassle. No sitting in a show room for hours. No salesman BS. No crazy markups.
    No I have to see my manager BS. With Tesla you can buy a vehicle in 5 minutes or less online. The dealers have no one to blame but themselves. The dealers are dragging the legacy auto makers down with them. The problem with legacy auto makers having slow sales leads back to the legacy auto dealers. They try to talk people out of buying and EV and want to put them in a gasoline car.

      The newer Prius (since 2022, I believe) use lithium ion, not nimh. Keep in mind that NiMH is a "sunk cost" technology - R&D and economies of scale long since achieved. Therefore it's more profitable to use NiMH. However for performance purposes i.e. going 45 miles in BEV mode, they were forced to change to lithium. It's a sacrifice in terms of stability and safety though.

The guys who have been in our house this week, have a Makita radio that looks like it could survive the apocalypse. You can also get a clip on attachment for the battery that adds US ports, so you can charge your phone. Builders are also using JCBs that are battery operated now.
    Toyota is stuck in the past and it's really sad. There are still uses for NiMH batteries, but those are waning and mostly relate to really specific niche use cases. u are spreading cherry-picked misinformation. That published NEDC fuel economy figure is when you're also running on battery power in China's city-oriented CLTC cycle. It is about as accurate as EPA MPGe BS figure. BYD PHEVs not only have bigger battery than Toyota's normal hybrids, in some cases even bigger than some of Toyota's own PHEV. So Corolla Levin may have 1-2kwh but the BYD Qin at the minimum have 9kwh and as much as 18 kwh in some variant (same as RAV4 Prime). This means BYD's battery and car as a whole is heavier than Toyota as well. Therefore, in higher speed highway and especially when battery ran out, BYD would be carrying around extra minimum 4.5x the size/ capacity battery, thus its fuel economy declines significantly. In Toyota PHEV its fuel economy will go down but not as much as BYD, even the latest DMI 5.0 will have this issue

The motor is an integral part of the CVT. Only Toyota makes it. (Ford got a license from Toyota for its Maverick Hybrid.) I own one in a Corolla Cross Hybrid and it is awesome and extremely dependable, unlike plugin hybrids. Plugin hybrids are much more expensive. All BYD and Tesla have to do is reinforce what Toyota and others have been saying until it's too late for them. Yes, invest all your R&D budget into Hydrogen and hybrids....that's a good idea.

    A Fuel Powered Engine Drives a Generator which Powers Electric Motors. Why not Cars?
    The Gas Engine would be Very Small and consume only a Small amount of Fuel. Many benefits including low cost and in turn affordable to the masses.

      It's also the best of both worlds. The ICE engines being made today are trouble free for hundreds of thousands of miles with a few oil changes. And in a hybrid in normal use, they run infrequently, especially if plug in. ICE problems become all but non-existent.

    • @eyeofthetiger6002
      @eyeofthetiger6002 3 місяці тому

      @@frequentlycynical642 but you're shelling out thousands of pounds more for a hybrid compared to a conventional gas guzzler plus whatever fuel economy you might gain with a hybrid is more than offset by the heavier weight of a hybrid due to the battery leading to less fuel efficiency. Lastly,no ICE engines are trouble free for hundreds of thousands of miles,go for the least reliable makes like an Alfa,and it's tens of thousands of miles,if that.🤣
