Let me be ABUNDANTLY CLEAR here to you people. The director, the same man who worked on the ORIGINAL ANIMATED MOVIES....said this will NOT be a shot for shot remake.
@SuperMandibleclaw yes a teaser trailer meant to capture the attention of the audience with not even 2! Count em 2!!! Minutes of footage from the film bravo
As a HUGE How To Train Your Dragon fan, you cannot imagine just how much hype and nostalgia I am feeling right now! This is the only live action remake I'm excited for and dying to see!
Just try not to get too hyped. Dragons is my favourite Dreamworks franchise so I’m not going to set my expectations too high, given how people have been let down by Disney too many times with this, so don’t be too surprised if Dreamworks can’t make it work either.
Doesn't look that bad, may actually be good and remember this is DreamWorks we're talking about here, the studio literally created by a former Disney Employee out of spite, I'm more than sure they wouldn't decide to make a Live-Action version of one of their films without assuring they don't make the same mistake that dooms every Disney Live-Action remakes.
@benschultz1784 apart from the stupid racism part, what people don't like is how Nico said "She's not Astrid" from an acting standpoint, yet she still played as her
There are those people that say "I won’t EVER watch animated movies, they’re for kids", I think a live action movie is a good way to reach those people… 🤷♀️🤷♀️
This movie doesn’t seem to be a 1 to 1 remake of the original because in this one Hiccup outright says he doesn’t want to kill dragons where he lies in the original. And Toothless is more curious than in the original if you do a comparison of them both caught in the trap
In the animated movie hiccup does tell stoic that he doesn’t want to kill dragons only difference is in this teaser hiccup doesn’t show any emotions at all towards stoic about wanting to kill dragons which leads to them both getting into an argument and stoic ignoring him because of hiccup disobeying his orders as chief.
Exactly, even doing the same thing as bringing back an OG actor to play the same character. Except for James Earl Jones as Mufasa in the remake, he was in his 80s, about to hit 90s; not exactly an age to bring the same energy he did in his 50s. I hope Gerard can bring the same umph that he did 15 years ago.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. We already have the animated movie so why would people WANT a live action version? Or why do we NEED a live action version? That’s my question. Most live actions change things and make them worst or don’t do the stories Justice. It’s like Shadiversity going on about Cinderella’s live action being better than the animated original. Sure it expands on the Prince, fine. But the story isn’t about him. It’s about Cinderella getting out of an abusive household. Then when Cinderella is locked up by her step mother she doesn’t do anything to escape and break the door. She just sits around and starts singing while the animals open the window. At least in the animated movie she slammed her fist on the door and tried to get it open, then the animals helped by getting the key and freeing her instead of just opening the window.
So my theory as to *why* so much live action movies happen is curiosity. Mindsets, especially back in like the 2010s when looking at animated stuff, always had the thought of "What would this be like if it were real" That's why there was a big UA-cam meta of "__ IN REAL LIFE" in all those titles
Yeah, of course. Talk about Cinderella which no one cares about, and don't say a word about really good live action adaptations that actually added great things to the story, like One Piece.
Why want animated versions when we have the books? Disney princess films aren’t original at all, they were ripped off from old fairy tales written hundreds of years ago, and the animated films aren’t even close to the original
Lemme just say this. People are bitching about Astrid being race swapped. I don’t care about race swapping. As long as they play the character and do them justice it’s fine. Snotlout on the other hand, is a different story. Snotlout in the animated film, looks bulky with the horns of his helmet proportionate to his face. Live action Snotlout is built like a twig.
I’d also say Julian Dennison is miscast for Fishlegs. He is an alright actor but he has never gone outside the Ricky Baker mould, he’s always a smart mouthed screaming Kiwi in everything he’s in and that just ain’t Fishlegs Gobber on the other hand is literally perfect. Nick Frost is gonna kill it in that role and what little snippets we saw of him in the BTS he looked perfect
When I looked at one of the initial shots for the actress playing Astrid, I didn't even notice her being that much different other than she had dark hair instead of blond hair like in the animated version. It wasn't until that I seen soo many people complaining about her being a different race did I even realize that it was a thing. People will always make the biggest mountains out of the smallest mole hills.
I personally dislike how Astrid is raceswapped and I don't see how Snotlout is different when it's literally based on how the character looks not the performance.
Me trying to ignore the movie UA-cam: tons of notifications about reactions to the trailer If I didn’t care about Disney’s remakes why would I care about dreamworks the original trilogy is a masterpiece I’d rather see more movies like wild robot and puss in boots the last wish not this
The guy complaining that toothless looks exactly the same well yeah cuz that's what people wanted and one of the biggest factors of the whole franchise. Toothless' design is the main attraction of this franchise but you expected him to look different? Come on bro
You know what would be better, if this movie was animated and was turned into a triology....oh wait it already is! Nobody asked for this. I love HTTYD, but it hasn't been that long since the last movie concluded the series (it was 5 years ago).
There is a reality that most of us has to always come to turns with is that "the was majority of people don't want to watch animated properties". It doesn't mater how good or exelent or amazing a animated movie is, the fact that it is animated is the barrier of entry. My mom cannot watch anything animated and take anything away from it. It all goes over her head. But once it is portrait by real people, it automatically becomes plausible, because it is portrait by real as possible people. Also. The idea of a movie being "necessary" is stupid as hell. Everyone would have said that Puss in Boots 2 was unnecessary, until they saw it. And the casting. It's more of a fantasy, or fable in its portrait. Meaning that it is as far removed from reality. That's why they have non historical helmets, because it is not historical in it's DNA. So it does not matter at all who is cast for what.
You know I already came up with a perfect name for this version of toothless, Pointless the Dragon and he is going to have all the gold in the world all thanks to the ticket sales for this film!
I’m sick and tired of live action remakes (never thought Dreamworks would follow Disney with this crap) so I’m not going to see this even if it is from my favourite Dreamworks franchise.
I like the shot by shot but I know the director said they are not completely going that route which is fine. I usually don’t like changes when it comes to live action cause sometimes it just doesn’t make sense. I really hope it’s as good as I think it is.
It is weird that they’re making this so relatively soon after the original animated version and I do also find myself asking the question everyone else seems to be asking themselves and each other - ‘Why even do this in the first place?’ Although on the subject of Toothless looking 1:1 identical to how he did in the 2010 movie, I agree that they could’ve added their own spin on his appearance to make him more unique. But on the other hand, Sonic the Hedgehog in his first movie trailer looked VERY different from how we’re used to seeing him in other media and was visually a very distinctive iteration of the character, but I don’t remember anyone (literally anyone) giving that ‘unique’ design praise, and I’m glad they didn’t because I say ‘Ew’ every time I see it. Again, I agree they could’ve made his design more of their own thing, but then you’d get plenty of people saying it looks ugly or nothing like Toothless at all and would get shit on for it, so it’s a delicate balancing act.
I for one will walk away from watching this angry as all #$&@ if they don't give Jay Baruchel a cameo. Dude put great work as Hiccup, give the man some love.
Only thing that looks the exact same is toothless. At least so far who knows how much is gonna be in terms of the story and script. Anywho I like how it looks so far
This is literal 2019 Lion King nonsense. And the "How to train your dragon" movies are not book accurate they could have made their own thing making the live action movies more book accurate but that would have been risky now would it
I agree with Nick on this it's the same story, same movie just live action nothing new we know how it starts and We know How It ends I mean not to say he's not going to be good but we already know what the story is about
Toothless looks good. But you can already tell that a lot of nuance is lost in Mason Thames' acting. He's absolutely fine! But with animation, you have absolute control over the characters' expressions, emotions, even their breathing. So unless they do something really spectacular, the Live Action remake will only be passable in comparison to the original.
There is also a caviat that this is the trailer. Most of the animation and rendering is often not yet done, even if it is in the trailer. And that the CG artist has to fine tone the settings to fitt the theatre screens, which is different then computer screens and needs a different form of calibration. That's why sometimes effects will look fake in videos, but perfect in theatre.
This is proof you will never make fans happy. They say they don't like the newer take on the franchises. Then they get a near perfect replica of what they said they liked.... and they still complain. This is why I stopped watching TV and movies years ago.
If you guys would actually do research the director said it isn’t a shot for shot of the first movie. The big moments will be there everything else will change. DO RESEARCH. You’re content creators who do this for a living. Get it together.
