  • Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant tide
    Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine
And no one showed us to the land
And no one knows the wheres or whys
But something stirs and something tries
And starts to climb towards the light
    Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can
And no one calls us to move on
And no one forces down our eyes
    No one speaks
    And no one tries
No one flies around the sun
Cloudless every day you fall upon my waking eyes
Inviting and inciting me to rise
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning
And no one sings me lullabies
And no one makes me close my eyes
So I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky.

Played this to my baby son while I Was pregnant with him. It would calm him. Little headphones over my belly and a Walkman lolol. Even after birth it would calm him off to sleep.❤

Definitely my favorite version of Echoes. Got this recorded off of FM radio back in the 70's and played the heck out of that cassette!

I bet! Probably had to put a pencil to it once or twice. My new favorite version for sure. Really wish I could've seen them live. My favorite band ever. Followed by Grateful Dead & Tool. Also Zeppelin, Wu-Tang, Beethoven, Bassnectar, Beats Antique, John Prine, Rumpke Mountain Boys, Brokedown Hustlers, Hillbilly Gypsies, Alice in Chains, Beastie Boys, Blind Melon, Bonobo, Dethklok, Pantera etc... F sakes I love all music. But Floyd really touches my soul like no other.

The last one takes up the whole of the second side of the Meddle LP, and the group's roadies, Pete and Scott, say it's an extraordinarily good number, and it's called, "Echoes."

“Pete and Scott” never could make that one out thank you. Peter Watts I’m guessing.

Dainese Aldo.

Also, I saw them do this live at the Boston Garden in 1975. It was the encore. Good version, but Dave was tired I guess. Dick Parry on saxophone substituted for a lot of his guitar work on this one.

Syd Barrett was the acid head in the group. Burned him out after the first album. Rick Wright 'dabbled' w/cocaine for a while, but straightened himself out. The others would toke the odd joint, but were mostly social alcohol drinkers... More interested in the music than the drugs....
