At 6’1” I’ve been using the skyhook for 30 years. Haven’t had it blocked. Tallest guy I’ve shot it over is 6’8”. The key is squaring up the shoulders and making sure your body and off hand are directly between the defender. A great shot perfected by The Captain.

Yes it was! I’m surprised no one tries to do that move! It’s alot of work and balance but it is very lethal!

Well, I loved basketball and when I visited the USA back in 1987/88 I watched some NBA games. Especially one where the L.A. Lakers played the Boston Celtics, where the Celtics lead until the last quater by 10 points. When the famous fist came and the Lakers won in the end by one point. However the player for me that stood out was the one and only Kareem Abdul Jabbar with his sky hook - truely the most beautiful shot I ever saw in basketball! So effectiv and nearly unstopable (I remember later that Wilt Chamberlain stoped it in one game about three times)!
I didn't know about Kareem before 1987 - but after my stay in the USA I was convinced that I had seen the G.O.A.T. back then! And this was two years before Kareem ended his 20 year career in the NBA! 😍
Yes, I noticed Larry Bird (Celtics) and Erwin "Magic" Johnson - but for me there was this tall guy with the goggles who stood out from the rest! 😍
When I later heard that Kareem trained with Bruce Lee I knew that this helped his career a lot! What a great player who dominated basketball on all levels (highschool, college and NBA)! 😇

Incredible story! Thank you sharing! Kareem was unbelievable! Makes me mad that no one in the nba ever try to do the skyhook and learn how to use it. Such an unstoppable move!

Kareem was my favorite player as a kid in the 1970s, so I guess at least SOME of us thought his style of play was fun to watch! 🤣
I have Kareem tied with MJ for the title as the GOAT. They were both so good, and in such different ways, that I just don't know how to choose between them. That said, though... if I was starting a franchise, and I could pick any player from NBA history as my first pick, I think I'd go with Kareem. So maybe that means I have him a hair above Jordan. But it's hard to say because... you know... he was my favorite player. Maybe I'm just being sentimental. 🙂
