    Up until today, I thought wafer paper was supposed to be brittle and dry. WRONG! This was so helpful! I've just started exploring the how to use it.

    Lady, you are superb!
    I loved how you mentioned, if it looks like "suede" etc, cause I tried it and yes, that description helped me understand the procedure better.
    Few questions plz:
    1. Can I refrigerate the cake with the wafer paper decorations? If yes, covered or uncovered? I'm worried about condensation when taken out??
    2. If a whole wafer is wrapped around the cake, same question as above.

      I’ve placed my cake with wafer fans right in the fridge the night before and left it out the next day and it was fine. BUT! Wafer paper is so finicky! I would leave the wafer decor to the very last if possible bc you just never know how weather will be changing up it’s humidity. I would also box it up as you suggested, so that if it is in the fridge and the temp diff outside of the fridge shocks it, atleast the condensation can collect on the box. The size of your wafer decor also matters Bc of its weight.

      Now I just have to try!
      Small decorations are ok to put last minute. I mean, annoying, but possible
      My main concern is if it was printed wafer paper, that you want to wrap around the whole cake, and you'd just want to do it early and have that peace of mind that it's done with!
      I haven't tried and that's where I will need any tips from you for big projects plz. As you mentioned, more weight and bigger pieces.
      If you encounter any issues here and there maybe you can do a video and update us if you dont mind! Thx

      @@krazykara1327 so I've never wrapped a wafer paper that has print on it, around a cake. When you say that what comes to mind are sugar sheets (which are made differently than wafer paper). Those I have seen wrapped around cakes, but unfortunately I've never purchased any, so I don't have experience with them. If it were wafer paper around a cake, my fear is its going to wrinkle asap! I've done strips of wafer paper around a cake, to add texture, but never a flat sheet. I don't see how that would work since wafer paper loves to absorb moisture. BUT if I find anything on it, or try out the sugar sheets in the future, I will definitely update! And thank you so much for your kind words! They mean so much! 💖☺️

      Gotcha. So there isn't a recipe exactly. It's a ratio. If you watch at the 1 minute mark that's where I explain the ingredients and my ratio. Here I'm using less alcohol because it's super dry. But change it up for your needs. In my other wafer paper fan tutorial I use more alcohol because it's super humid. Each part can be whatever you want it to be- teaspoon, little random cup, anything.
      Does that make sense?

    I'm going through your channel and I love your videos.
    One question, can alcohol be substituted? Where I love, alcohol is not available easily. So I would like to know my options.

      Thank you! While I haven't used these myself (since Vodka is so cheap and easily available to me), there is always "Evaporex", or "Baker's Spirits". Both are 100% alcohol, but other countries sell them under these names. Hopefully you can find them. If not, you can always use a lemon extract, such as the kind you'd use in a cake or frosting. The extracts contain a high amount of alcohol, so it helps with the drying. I hope these 3 options help you! ❤️

    thanks for the wonderful tutorial. You got a new subscriber. How many days in advance can you make decorations and also, can the decorations be added to the cake and be refrigerated overnight. I usually do my cakes the night before its due. thank you

      Thank you! I'm so glad you like it! You can make these days in advance, you just have to make sure to store away from light to prevent fading, and have it protected from dust and moisture.
      I've had luck putting my fully dry fans on a cake overnight, but it'll depend on your frosting and weather, because wafer paper loves to absorb moisture! I'd def test it first to get to know your conditions before committing. Hope that helps!

    Yes, wafer paper can be tricky! As for decorating and refrigerating overnight...the humidity level in the refrigerator needs to be below 60%. You can get a meter (basically the size of your timer) at Amazon for around $8. Also, do not store vegetables in the same refrigerator with a wafer paper decorated cake. Chef A

      Thank you so much for your advice! I think we often forget how much humidity we have around us. And the change in temperature (bringing it out of the cool fridge to a warmer room) just draws out that humidity so much and ruins cake decor! 😩 But great advice! 💖

    What is a good substitution of Alcohol?

      You can use water. But you have to be careful bc it won’t dry as quickly. I like alcohol bc it’s just being used to dilute the color, then it evaporates away (no one is consuming it and getting drunk)! The alcohol isn’t consumed. You can also use a clear extract, just like you’d use to flavor your buttercream, but that has a good amount of alcohol too. So I’m guessing that if you’re against reg alcohol, you probably don’t use extracts either? If I’m wrong, that’s another option that will dry more quickly than plain water. I hope this gives you options! 💖

      Food grade- vodka. But you can use water also, alcohol just dries faster. And yes, glycerin, but dont add too much or you'll make edible cloth. But not bad if thats your goal! 💖

      Hi! This is always a loaded question, because I'm not sure what you consider alcohol. Here go my go to recommendations:
      Clear Lemon extract- like the type you would use in frosting or cakes, but it's 80% alcohol.
      Evaporex (bakers use this as a substitute for vodka)- 100% food grade alcohol.
      Baker's Spirits aka rejuvenators spirits aka edible paint dilutor - Also 100% food grade alcohol.
      Finally, Water - Downside is because it will take longer to dry, you risk your wafer paper warping or "melting", but it works! Might just take practice.
      Basically everything that dries quickly is some type of alcohol, but different places and countries sell it under different names. I hope this helps and you can work with one of these! ❤️

      Great question. However, I'm not sure what you mean by "regular" alcohol. Can you be more specific? If the alcohol is edible, go for it, it'll work. Otherwise, I would not recommend that, because these pieces are going on a cake.

      Of course! That is going to depend on how much glycerin you use, and your climate. The more glycerin you use, the longer it will stay flexible- use too much and it'll stay as soft as fabric! If it's humid, it'll also stay flexible longer because it absorbs moisture from the air. Sorry, there's no definite answer.

      Thank you! Great question. I use water based gel colors. This allows me to have the most minimal amount of water, so it dries faster.

    Hi ! Love your tutorial..I need some waffer paper advice here if you dont mind 😅 so i ordered some precut waffer paper butterflies that i need to use on a buttercream cake that has to be kept in the fridge! Now iam afraid that thewhen the cake starts sweating outside the fridge, it will melt the butterflies.
    Iam considering wirring them but not sure how to go on about it? A wire between two identical ones? And will this hept as they wont be directly touching the buttercream?
    Also can i bend them without breaking?
    So sorry for my long list of inquries xx

      Thanks! So hopefully this helps- If possible Cir keep all the wafer paper decor off the cake until it’s being put out for display and serving. If it has to be in the fridge, I’ve had my wafer paper fans and flowers be fine after a day or two in the fridge, but that depends a lot in the environment too. If it comes out to somewhere hot it probably will sweat more and wilt. If it’s a gradual change, I think you’ll ve safer. But definitely, wafer paper sucks up moisture, so keeping it away from the frosting and putting on last minute is best. As for wiring, it’s hard to say without seeing the butterflies. You could try just attaching with the wafer paper glue, or adding the glue and a slim strip on wafer paper so the wire is sandwiched. I hope this helps!

      You are awesome.... why didn't I put that??? 🤦🏻‍♀️ It's wafer paper glue which is just leftover wafer paper bits with a bit of water. I mix the two in a container and microwave them a few seconds at a time to melt the wafer paper into a sticky paste. I'll upload a short video in the next few weeks sharing how I make my edible glues. Thank you for bringing this up! ❤️

      Great question! The cornstarch helps to dry it faster so you can handle it without it sticking to everything.

      Of course. If they're fans, you'll probably want to attach a stick to the fan so it can be inserted into the cake. The fresh cream might be a bit soft for it to stay up properly. Just remember that wafer paper loves moisture and will wilt around it, so I suggest not putting your wafer paper decor on too early. I hope that helps! 💛

      It is edible. Though it doesn't have much flavor. As far as bakery shops go, I'm not sure. They wont carry it in a Joann's or Michaels, but you can get it online from Amazon (I have a link for it in the description), or from online bakery shops. I just don't tend to shop in person much, so I'm not sure.

      Hi! Please check the description for the materials used in this video. The quantity will depend on your humidity. Here I used a 2:1 ratio, meaning 2 parts alcohol, 1 part glycerine. That is for a very dry climate. You may need to decrease the glycerine for a humid environment. Hope that helps! 💖

      So unfortunately, I don't know of any, BUT! Gel colors have glycerin in them (at least the americolor and wilton colors I have), and if it's hot and humid by you, that's probably enough glycerin. In this video it was a dry winter, so I really did need the extra glycerin, but now that it's summer, I don't. Sorry I couldn't answer with a substitution, but hopefully this long winded explanation helps a bit. 💖

    How did you put them on your cake ?.. I mean did u attach any skewers to the end & place them into yr cake if so how u do that,.

      Great question! These held up on their own, so I just stuck them into the buttercream and they were fine. You def have to play with the ratio so you don’t get a floppy palm. This ratio worked for me at the time bc it was a dry winter, but now in summer it wouldn’t hold bc of the humidity.
      Also, I don’t add them to the cake until I need them bc wafer paper absorbs moisture and will begin to wilt if it absorbs too much.

      You sure can! There are a ton of options. I use alcohol bc it was humid in that area and alcohol dries faster, but water will do just fine 💖. Thanks for asking!

      This is a tough one bc “non-alcohol” means something different to everyone. I use this bc it evaporates quickly. You can also use clear extracts like the type you make cakes and frostings with, vanilla or lemon, but they have alcohol too. If not, there’s always water. You’ll just have to wait a bit longer for it to dry. 💖 Hope that helped!
