Reference Track Exercise for Beginners: Sample Selection, Levels & more

I feel like I have to put a giant note here to say COPYING IS NOT REFERENCING, and if you feel your final product feels like a rip off of someone elses, that isn't chill and you shouldn't release it. Trust your judgement. Use references to get inspired, to get the ball rolling and then make it your own! This is a good technique for beginners to get used to figuring out what samples work well together. Especially for drums! More advanced producers, will already know what works and can get going from nothing.

It’s been in the back of my mind to use a reference track, as I struggle sometimes with arrangements. But choice of sound is no problem. You have inspired me to do it 😅

Nice one! Any idea how to get your reference track to go through minimeters when sending through external out? I feel like that would be huge

You can do that, you’ll just need to set your Minimeters audio input to Desktop Audio rather than the Minimeters Plugin :)
