    Can you do a video showing the process before the stems are created. The proper way to name the tracks, how you assign audio vs midi tracks, etc. How to begin the process of recording the tracks.

    I wanna ask something, I observed you had different volumes that you exported. some had -20 some had -11 and the percussions summing track had -3 or -2 (maybe cuz of multiple instruments), aren't you creating stems for the next stage, mixing? When we know it is not mixed, can't we just export all at -12dB instead? So, we will get loud volume for all tracks, maybe? Thanks for the explanation though :)

    • @Yhuntermusic
      @Yhuntermusic  3 роки тому +6

      Great question! When I took that approach you're referring to, engineers would always tell me "you stems are too loud, can you drop them down at least -3" to -5db please?". It's always better to give the engineer decent headroom. When I do shows, I'll actually go back and level match all off the stems to make sure the engineer won't have to do more work than whats needed. I'll have to do another video on stems for records and stems for live shows. Thanks a lot!

    I sent stacks to a new audio track per stack, then record enable them and record them all as new audio in the project, then H/Freeze the originals.

      Track Stack is basically a Bus. It creates a folder instead of a fader of that makes sense.

    Also do you master your stems before sending them out ? Or do you just focus on the mix being good ?

    • @Yhuntermusic
      @Yhuntermusic  4 роки тому

      I don’t usually master stems. I mix the individual tracks first, then I stem them down.

    Any videos anywhere that you know of where someone creates a stem starting from the recording / comping process? I’m recording my album by myself and have very high quality sound, but can’t seem to get that perfect, flawless audio that you hear on albums. Like zero string attack, zero string noise, no audio artifacts absolutely anywhere etc.
    This is what I’d pay to see.

      @@Yhuntermusic Thanks for your transparency! I’ll sub tonight atleast once just for that. Final question - have you covered that topic or think that topic is coming in the near future? Everyone I talk to assures me that it’s not about playing a piece in perfection (though as close as you can get helps), but with the best signal I can get, in a noise dampened studio, playing a piece I wrote that I consider to have mastered, I still hear subtle things I don’t like, too much attack, etc on some notes and no matter how many takes or comps I try, I can’t get a 100% flawless end result. It baffles me and Im searching everywhere for the answer that I can.

    So I see you exported the summing stack as 1 track. The issue I'm having is that when I select a summing stack by itself to export it Exports it to 1 track (which is desired). However, if i select a summing track along with another track (whether it be another summing stack or regular track) it wants to export each individual track inside all the summing stacks as individual stems (which will overload me like you said). What am I doing wrong here? I wasn tall my percussion like you to be in one stem and i dont want to have to repeat the export process for each summing stack.

    • @Yhuntermusic
      @Yhuntermusic  3 роки тому

      Make sure to “command click” the summing stack instead of “shift clicking”. If you shift click it, it will also highlight the individual tracks inside the folder. That’s happened to me a few times but I finally figured that out.

      @@Yhuntermusic one thing I learned also about making stems is that if you start panning things left and right and listening in stereo and you play your track in a mono feed. You loose some of the volume in your aux sounds if they are panned right. One question is does panning it left boost the volume in a mono feed more than keeping it dead center?
