Pulling Weeds by rail
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 вер 2024
- Today, we're pulling weeds out of the ballast and using the train to carry them away to the compost pile. It's a pretty simple task, but it's just one more reason to run a train. It's about 94°F (34°C), so we're not doing a thorough job, just getting the worst of it.

Put all that greenery in a barrel full of water, let it soaked a good 10 days. You got an excellent tea for your garden. Then put everything in compost pile.
Now thats something ya just caint do in the smaller scales..........
Vinegar... and... fire. 😂❤
@@LordPhobos6502 YES!
Like someone suggested packing a weed eater on the car to cut the weeds
@@duanedale2505 We'll do that in another video.
What are you using for vinegar? I've used a combo of vinegar, dish soap and epsom salts. 2liters vinegar (1/2gal?), cup of salts and lots of dish soap. Works well. If you've got a feed store handy, see if you can get the vinegar they use in dairy barns to flush the lines. It's 30% and burns everything white in 2 hours of sun. Bit pricy, but wow
@@tryingagain14 I use basically the same recipe, but with 45% vinegar. It's a bit pricey, but like you said: WOW!
What about a rock salt test on a short portion of track but not on the ties? I read the vinegar kills the top but not the roots? Do you see any evidence of that? I agree weeding is more fun with friends. Pull on my good men!
@@petercruikshank2618 You are correct. Vinegar does not kill to the roots. I've been thinking about rock salt lately. I just need the time to do it.
Modify a tank car into a weed sprayer, or make a kit to strap to a flatcar for summer.
I seem to remember a video in which you used a torch to burn the weeds. That seems more effective. Or vinegar solution?
@michaelbrouillette3165 The torch takes gas to run, and I was out of gas and out of money. I was also out of vinegar. Volunteers work for free and are a lot better company than a torch on a hot day.
@@MillBrookRailroad fair enough lol
Completely unrelated comment here, been rewatching the 70 rebuild and 71 build videos: if the millbrook 70 is 2 inches shorter, but is built to ES2-500 spec... couldnt it be condisdered an ES2-500S (S for short)? Just i random thought that popped into my head while watching those videos haha
@@sdmsapphiremodels I suppose. I'm not really sure what to call it.
Did you know most popular breakfast cereals contain Roundup ? Look on your cereal box ingredients for Glyphosate. Why do breakfast cereal manufacturers put Roundup in children's breakfast cereal ?
@ModelingSteelinHO , it's because certain breeds of corn are Roundup resistant. There is no Roundup in oatmeal and toast, which is a much better breakfast than sugary corn stuff.
@@MillBrookRailroad I disagree. I have researched for years the poison food manufacturers put in products. It is most certainly very real.
Wouldn't it be easier to use a weedwacker? Could still use it from the train.
@@Paul-e5k It probably would, but they always come back when you weed whack them. We'll use the weed whacker in another video.
hay are you on well or city water? 💦 the weeds are such a pain when they get established,
they are hard to pull out or kill. you did a good job getting them up. good luck getting it all
cleaned up! Eric and you do so well together on the Millbrook RR.
We have our own well and septic here.
Thanks
What type of gears are in the engine? I’m building one and looking for ideas
@animalou812 This particular engine uses a Peerless hydrostatic transmission with chain drive to the wheels. I have a playlist about building electric locomotives.
@@MillBrookRailroad it sounded like a gasoline engine in the video
@animalou812 This one has a 3.5 HP Kohler gasoline engine.
@@MillBrookRailroad gas motor with hydrostatic training?
