The Blues are the truth. The song is great.....and he is not lying. Married women give you the blues.

This album (vol 1) was the best of the three, but they're all good. James Cotton on vol 2 and Big Walter on vol 3 are awesome not to mention Johnny Shines, Otis Rush, and others.

@EwolDJ I agree. Well said! My personal favourite from these records is Johnny Young's Kidman Blues. It's a blend of Sleepy John Estes' Milkcow Blues and Leaving Trunk. Absolute perfection. Simple, raw and brutal in its intensity. No histrionics - just a terrific band playing at their peak.

@sugarmamaaa - oh, yeah, please do mention Johnny Shines. His version of Robert Johnson's 'Dynaflow Blues' is so raw - a half-forgotten classic vocal which makes us yearn for Johnson well-recorded. But this whole great series is a goldmine. High fidelity meets high authenticity here for the first time. Second-wave Chicago bluesmen in their youthful prime. The older masters were not served so well. The Vanguard sound engineer, whoever he was, deserves a medal. I agree Vol.1 was the best though.
