  • Our Daily Routine Living in a Van (& Cost Misconception)
    (EPISODE 262)
    ℹ️ About this episode:
    On this episode of LivinRvision, we share our daily routine on the road living full time in a van (RV). We share OUR normal weekday routine and explain how we manage work and travel and the pros and cons.
    We also share a big misconception about living full-time in an RV that many people believe. Is it more or less expensive to travel full-time while living in an RV? We have been doing this for five years now. In this episode, we will share what we have found in the five years living full-time in an RV while still working full-time remotely.
    We hope you enjoy this episode!

    Always wanted to see how you live while you are not filming. I appreciate the behind the scenes look. It’s not all adventures and restaurant reviews. You should do more of these to show people the real life of s as n RV’er. Safe travels.

    I love watching your videos. I have been widowed since 2009. My husband of 25 years died of a brain tumor at age 63. We RVd when he was alive. I have been RVing since 2014 by myself along with my miniature schnauzer. Brian, you seem so loving to Michelle. I love your goofy facial expressions. Safe travels.

    Brian, something that helps me is freezing diced or mashed up avocados in a ziplock bag smashed flat to save room. You can divide portions by just making a line with your finger through the bag before laying flat to freeze. The portions break off and make it super convenient to buy several and always have them fresh and ready. Love your videos!

      We used to use frozen organic avocados from Costco, but our current freezer in this van is extra small and d we can’t fit other things if we do that. Grech was having a supply chain issue with refrigerators and this was the one we got. Some of their other new models have a much better fridge with a bigger freezer.

    This video was really well done! I enjoyed seeing what your active day is really like while working full time as you travel. It is really impressive how you wisely use all your limited space in your RV. In my view, there is a whole lot of cooperation, planning, hard work, and preparation, when pursuing a full time RV lifestyle. I also appreciated your explanation of how you prepare the video for UA-cam each week. Nice job!

    You guys are a great team! Thanks so much for sharing life in your RV. We enjoy the sightseeing videos but these details say so much about how an RV works. It's the little details - location of outlets, places to put utensils, hang your hats, put your trash, etc. that determine whether a particular RV works for your way of traveling. And, you are sooooo right about the large lithium capacity and quiet/powerful AC. We did a major upgrade to the 1260ah with our rig and changed out the AC. Like you, we love the function & freedom from worry. I remember an earlier video on traveling in heat. Could you do another on traveling in cold? Do you add reflectix behind the shades? Any additional insulation for the cab? If/when you winterize? Really helpful for us travelers to get tips.

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  9 місяців тому +2

      There is a couple things that effect and consider when looking at Subscriber count.
      1) UA-cam is constantly “purging” people. We get emails from people telling us they have been unsubscribed and have to click Subscribe again. Hard telling how many we have lost.
      2) Subscribers isn’t what matters most. Take a look at some channels with a high number of Subscribers and then click on their Videos tab and scroll down their list and notice how many “Views” they get on each video. What happens is, some channels have a video that goes viral and people will click Subscribe and click the bell just to save that channel to their Subscribed channels and get notified of new videos, so that they can go back to find them later also. Many of these people don’t see new videos come up that they want to watch, so that channel keeps the Subscribers but they don’t continue to reflect with views. Channels that continue to give their viewers what they want to see keep getting close to the same views. Some of these other channels are constantly trying to find video ideas to create a viral video which only increases Subscriber count. Some channels are good with doing both. You can tell the difference by looking at the Total Subscribers vs Total Views as you scroll down their video library.

    I love this video! I’m so appreciative of your efforts to create the high caliber videos you share with your fans. I found your site because of my interest in a Grech van. So the every day moments that you share even in the travel episodes really spin my desire to own one myself some day. We pull a 16ft Airstream Basecamp at the moment but my argument is pulling one with a Grech would mean we could bring along grandchildren (or their parents) Hubby thinks it’s a pipe dream lol. Thanks for your dedication to creating such great content! Anyone who owns an rv realizes its not necessarily cheaper. We were shocked on fuel consumption and costs while towing a 30 ft bumper pull. Do you miss the space and change of scenery (getting out of the van at night) the airstream provided? The ability to park anywhere certainly has its perks. We have realized we are also in a sweet spot of life with grown kids and busy grandchildren. It’s time for us to get out and make the most of life while we are able. Safe travels!

      The space issue has been worth the benefits for us. During the week we are sitting in one place all day regardless of our total sf. The scenery outside remains the same of course regardless of the RV. Did we misunderstand that question?

    Love your channel and enjoy your content and editing. Great choices of music which meld with your videos. We have a Class B van but are part time camping; living in the Northeast we just winterized our van. We still manage to use her for day trips traveling to new hiking areas in New England. We can prepare our lunch and play a game of cards after a day hike at a beach, in the mountains or in the forest. We have a Blend Jet in our van and in our home; it’s perfect for a single smoothie. Here’s a hint, freeze your left over or over ripe avocado in a small bag to prevent it turning brown. Thaw it slightly before adding to your smoothie, makes it cold and thick. If you are not on a low carb meal plan, freeze banana to use in your smoothie as well.

      We keep them up only if we are in an area where there’s shade or no sun hitting the windows or like in this case, we keep them up in busy areas to avoid distractions. We LOVE to have natural light, in fact, Michelle had her side window open in the back. Sometimes I will fold one corner to get some natural light and still provide some shade.

      Thanks for the suggestion. We found that these scrub sponges we buy (we can’t remember the name either lol starts with a “E” 😂) they don’t get the odor to them as quickly as others we have tried and they are cheap. Easy enough for us to squirt some soap on it for those quick washes.

    We have an older class B and in the last couple of years I adopted a brand new way of doing dishes to save water, especially when we are boondocking. First of all I wipe the dishes off with paper towels or baby wipes then spritz down with a spray of water and a little Dawn liquid, let them soak for a bit then they wash off easily with very little water and rinse off easier too. I was a skeptic at first but I'm convinced now.

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  9 місяців тому +1

      Something else we do that we have shared in a previous video is, we use our electric kettle to heat just a little bit of water and mix that with a little cold water if needed to do dishes. Doesn’t take much at all. We have also did this and poured into the bathroom sink with the stopper down to mix with a little cold when warm/hot water is needed to do a quick wash up. Saves on wasting water waiting for hot water to come from the faucet. This has only been during a few boondocking occasion course.

      I do the same. I like the water pretty hot for dishes. My old 67 year old hands are shot. lol. I use the bathroom sink also with warm water and a little shower gel. Thanks for the ideas. :) @@LivinRVision

    I found your little 'desk' that you mount to your steering wheel quite interesting. Is the small pull out shelf large, and strong, enough to use a mouse on? If you ever get low on video content, one thing you could do is create a library of campground video tours that you could tap into if/when you might have one of those 'bad weather' periods. We travel in a 45' Class A and are always looking for photos, or videos, of campgrounds and especially of the actual campsites. Many campgrounds that advertise they are Big Rig friendly seem to have a different view of reality of a site being flat vs a site that is level etc. Safe traveling, be safe and stay healthy.

    • @LivinRVision
      @LivinRVision  9 місяців тому +1

      It would work fine for a mouse.
      Campground reviews is something we used to do the first year but was not the right content for the majority of our viewers, so what we found is to show campgrounds briefly as we pass through them to include in our videos and that works out well. We include pricing of them sometimes also unless they are a Thousand Trails which is included in our membership.

    Great video! I was just wondering the other day what your “everyday” was like! I know from experience it’s not cheap to be on the road everyday! In fact, it can get expensive. You mentioned that the past 2 years it has cost a lot more to be on the road. We all know why! The economy! And we all know (unfortunately) who made that happen! Let’s pray that things will turn around! Stay safe. Have fun. See you on the road some day!

    • @LivinRVision

      Even thought the economy isn’t so great, we actually are paying more because we are spending more…as in, we do a LOT more than we did prior. So even if the economy was the same, we would be spending more.

    I had no idea how much time is spent doing these videos! Wow! Thank you for sharing your time and videos with us! I use the same protein powder as well as the collagen peptides from the same company. I agree, the chocolate is the tastiest but I did buy the vanilla as well so I have to finish that before I buy more chocolate. I usually alternate between the chocolate and vanilla, adding the dry peanut butter to each one as well as adding the collagen powder. Im going to add avocado next time! I love how much care you both put into caring for your home! The little details in protecting surfaces, steering wheel etc…don’t go unnoticed! (I’m the same way at my home lol). Thank you again for all your hard work and for being a source of inspiration! My husband and I were headed our on the road last year but just as we were going to accept an offer on our house, he was diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer! Yikes, but here we are a year later and after one session of chemo and radiation, all the cancer is gone and now he’s doing immunotherapy once a month for two years. Just goes to show …we make plans and God laughs! Lol. I know that His plan is so much better than the one we were hoping for and we both can’t wait to see the blessings on the other side of all this “stuff”! Yikes long comment! Sorry! 😮😊

    Hey You 'UA-camrs', really helpful content & very realistic. Looking back ...on other RVs used... w/ Grech's overall features & quality build for reliability -- how often now are your days/plans impacted w/ emergency or standard service intervals/requirements to keep you 'on the road' or parked at a campground or Cracker Barrel (great that certain ones still allow overnite and/or daytime parking to do your 'jobs' on-site)? This life style clearly works for you guys ... great deal for Grech too ... & keep this excellent & interesting content rollin'! 🤗 🤜🏽🤛🏽
