In 2020 Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland agreed to implement ICON as an evidenced based intervention to reduce the incidence of Abusive Head Trauma(AHT).
AHT was formerly known as ‘Shaken Baby Syndrome’ and is inflicted on the baby by its carer; a violent reaction to the crying baby. Research evidence indicates that 70% of AHT is perpetrated by men and therefore it is of importance to ensure men are given the ICON message as well as the support and resources to help them manage a crying baby and reduce AHT.
Our goal for ICON is to communicate to parents/carers that they can expect crying, prepare for it and cope with it.
Our aim is to reduce the incidence of AHT triggered by crying.
We hope that the sharing of these films will support the above.
