Happy Birthday Jennifer. Our oldest daughter also turned 50 on August 15th. I almost always use the called for floss, but generally use whatever fabric I have on hand or what my local LNS has that is close to the called for. Have never missed any of your videos and always look forward to spending time with the 2 of you.

Happy Birthday, Jennifer! I usually use the DMC conversions and I’m strictly an Aida stitcher. I have RA in my hands and I find it easier to stitch on Aida. I love your videos and I love the quilts you have in the background.
I use called for threads on the bigger projects, mostly samplers. I often use fabric from my stash. On smaller projects, I use a combination of called for threads and substitutions from stash and fabric from stash.

Hi, You two are one of my "must watches". I'm also a snowman stitcher and love Jen's finishes. I usually use the designer's suggested dmc threads on a fabric in my stash. I'm an Aida and evenweave stitcher. I do not have an LNS so my fabric is mostly from online stores, hobby lobby, Michael's or gifted old stashes from retired stitchers. Enjoy the cooler fall weather.

Enjoyed spending time with you and great finishes! My favorite part of FT is seeing FFOs and you two never disappoint! I too am a multi crafter and sewing and quilting and wool applique are favorites, in addition to xstitch! I stitch on 14 ct Aida, often hand dyed but recently LOVE Cosmo 14ct Aida which is never a called for fabric and I never use called for, just whatever inspires me and is handy! Usually in the "spirit" of the designer but it is rare that either the fabric or floss is called for!
Happy Birthday, Jen! So much to see today...I really don't need the enabling but enjoy seeing what's available. Nice finishes and progress on so many projects. As for the use of suggested floss colors, I'd say I change at least one or two colors as the least in each design I stitch. Many times, it's because I don't have a color, usually a fancy floss, or don't like the pallet but am in love with the design. Hope the next few weeks settle down a bit to allow you both to breathe and of course stitch.

When I start a project I always see what I have with both fabric and floss that would work first then compare to what is called for. If it is a Satsuma Street or Autumn lane I usually use called for because their colors are awesome.

Lovely visit, thank you! I'm impressed with the number of finishes and FFOs you managed to get completed. I most often choose my own fabrics for projects, though I often keep the color similar in looks to the called for. For floss, it varies. I have a larger collection now than I used to have so if I have the called for, I use them or the DMCs listed. Occasionally I will just use a color card and then choose silks or overdyed cotton from my stash that are similar.
Happy birthday Jennifer! I’ve missed your videos the past few weeks. I’ve been watching you both since the beginning. In regards to threads I do change colors and find myself adding wisper to Santa’s beards and animals for some texture. Sometimes I swap out a color like gold to a Krenik gold when appropriate. I try to use from stash and the suggested color from the designer but sometimes it’s just nice to look at the rainbow gallery threads at my LNS for inspiration.
I usually like to use called for floss and fabric. If I cannot find the exact fabric I will usually substitute floss if needed to match the replacement fabric better. I hope you had a wonderful Birthday ❤

Happy birthday, a good bit late. That quilt is striking! I nearly always use the called for DMC. Getting called for overdyes is not easy unless I do online buying. Same with the fabric, I try to come close to called for but I more often have to use what is available at the 3 big name stores.
Hi Carol and Jenn! It was so nice catching up with you and seeing what you're stitching. Happy Birthday Jenn! You had so many beautiful finishes! I love the Dureen Jones Christmas piece. Your quilt is just lovely too. Carol, what a great grand prize you won! You're both so lucky to have had that AR trunk show to get to see and buy all those gorgeous fabrics. Speaking of called for fabric and floss...99% of the time I used the called for floss (or the called for DMC alternatives when given). However, I never use the called for fabric since it is either too hard to find or because I never stitch on linen. So over the years I've just always gone my own way with the fabric and continue to do so. For me, who has a terrible sense of cohesive color selection, sticking to the called for floss is essential.
Jen, happy birthday and Carol, you not getting old, Jen is….Carol, I what you mean, my daughter turned 55 which I find amazing & my 80th comes up in November. However, it’s just a number! Love watching you both and seeing all your fabulous work. Usually what draws me to a pattern besides the context, are the colors the designer uses so I usually go with the called for. The fabric is another story, if I have a fabric in my stash that will work, I will use what I have. The Atomic Ranch fabrics you bought purchased are beautiful, I recently used some & I like it very much. Look forward to your next Flosstube!

So glad you mentioned to it hit like. I am a faithful subscriber and did not realize the importance of doing that. I NEVER miss an episode of you. . I rarely use the called for fabric because I Iike to match what the cover picture. Threads are so close in color I frequently substitute. If I fall in love with a model I will duplicate it and only substitute threads that are only used for a few stitches.
Great video gals. Lots of fun stitching and finishes and shopping! I usually use the called for threads or at least the DMC equivalents if it’s a ton of fancy floss. As far as the fabric, I stitch on 16 and 18 count. So if called for is 32 or 36 (which usually it is) I’m fine for size.

In answer to your question, I only use DMC thread as I started stitching in my teens and have been collecting thread colors for the last 40 years and don't have a lot of storage space for different threads. As far as fabric goes, I am probably 50-50 following the pattern or picking a different fabric. I love watching your channel and enjoy your mother-daughter relationship, as well as your life updates. I am also from the Midwest (Iowa) and can relate to your weather and location. Please keep up the good work. I will continue to watch!

Great to see you both again! Happy 50th Jen! I’m not very adventurous so I rarely substitute flosses (except for using DMC alternatives for ‘fancy’ flosses). I mostly choose my own fabric from my stash since there is a pretty narrow choice of fabrics here in the UK and mailing from overseas is so expensive. Happy stitching!

Lots of lovely finishes, such as the lighthouse and Lizzie Kate stitches. I tend to stick to called for threads but I recently found a website which will list substitute dmc colours for called for dmc colours. I use this when I need a colour for only a few stitches.

I usually use the called for floss , but I frequently change out the fabric. I don’t like stitching on linen, so I always sub an even weave and I often just pull from something in my stash. Sometimes I even play around with dying my own fabric.

I normally use called for floss but prefer to choose my own fabric (color and count) because I don't care for muddy browns. Jenn, hope you had a wonderful birthday--50 is a great year so enjoy each day of your special year.🥰🥰

I most often choose my own fabrics for projects, though I often keep the color similar in looks to the called for. For floss, it varies. I have a larger collection now than I used to have so if I have the called for, I use them or the DMCs listed. Occasionally I will just use a color card and then choose silks or overdyed cotton from my stash that are similar.
Happy birthday Jennifer! I’ve missed your videos the past few weeks. I’ve been watching you both since the beginning. In regards to threads I do change colors and find myself adding wisper to Santa’s beards and animals for some texture. Sometimes I swap out a color like gold to a Krenik gold when appropriate. I try to use from stash and the suggested color from the designer but sometimes it’s just nice to look at the rainbow gallery threads at my LNS for inspiration.
I usually like to use called for floss and fabric. If I cannot find the exact fabric I will usually substitute floss if needed to match the replacement fabric better. I hope you had a wonderful Birthday ❤

Happy birthday, a good bit late. That quilt is striking! I nearly always use the called for DMC. Getting called for overdyes is not easy unless I do online buying. Same with the fabric, I try to come close to called for but I more often have to use what is available at the 3 big name stores.
Hi Carol and Jenn! It was so nice catching up with you and seeing what you're stitching. Happy Birthday Jenn! You had so many beautiful finishes! I love the Dureen Jones Christmas piece. Your quilt is just lovely too. Carol, what a great grand prize you won! You're both so lucky to have had that AR trunk show to get to see and buy all those gorgeous fabrics. Speaking of called for fabric and floss...99% of the time I used the called for floss (or the called for DMC alternatives when given). However, I never use the called for fabric since it is either too hard to find or because I never stitch on linen. So over the years I've just always gone my own way with the fabric and continue to do so. For me, who has a terrible sense of cohesive color selection, sticking to the called for floss is essential.
Jen, happy birthday and Carol, you not getting old, Jen is….Carol, I what you mean, my daughter turned 55 which I find amazing & my 80th comes up in November. However, it’s just a number! Love watching you both and seeing all your fabulous work. Usually what draws me to a pattern besides the context, are the colors the designer uses so I usually go with the called for. The fabric is another story, if I have a fabric in my stash that will work, I will use what I have. The Atomic Ranch fabrics you bought purchased are beautiful, I recently used some & I like it very much. Look forward to your next Flosstube!

Enjoy your Flosstube! I generally use called for flosses, but substitute fabric (some of the called for fabric is difficult to find). Absolutely loved the Atomic Ranch trunk show! I bought several pieces. Please consider having another!
So glad you mentioned to it hit like. I am a faithful subscriber and did not realize the importance of doing that. I NEVER miss an episode of you. . I rarely use the called for fabric because I Iike to match what the cover picture. Threads are so close in color I frequently substitute. If I fall in love with a model I will duplicate it and only substitute threads that are only used for a few stitches.
Great video gals. Lots of fun stitching and finishes and shopping! I usually use the called for threads or at least the DMC equivalents if it’s a ton of fancy floss. As far as the fabric, I stitch on 16 and 18 count. So if called for is 32 or 36 (which usually it is) I’m fine for size.
Happy Birthday! In answer to your question, I only use DMC thread as I started stitching in my teens and have been collecting thread colors for the last 40 years and don't have a lot of storage space for different threads. As far as fabric goes, I am probably 50-50 following the pattern or picking a different fabric.

I usually use the called for floss but rarely the fabric as I’m an Aida stitcher as well as an impatient starter when I feel like a new start so I grab from stash. The trunk show sounds fabulous; I’m on the hunt for some of that parchment and the white one now on Etsy. 🧵🪡 Happy stitching
Great to see you both again! Happy 50th Jen! I’m not very adventurous so I rarely substitute flosses (except for using DMC alternatives for ‘fancy’ flosses). I mostly choose my own fabric from my stash since there is a pretty narrow choice of fabrics here in the UK and mailing from overseas is so expensive. Happy stitching!

I use called for DMC or if a kit the floss that comes in it. I like lugana so sometimes I'll change up fabrics.

I don’t use called for much unless it’s a mirabilia or Nora Corbett, then I use called for floss and choose my own fabric!

Hi Carol and Jen. My baby is 52, and my oldest turned 60 in July!! That is a shocker. It is only a number. But, I don't feel that old. Funny!
Happy Birthday Jennifer! I use called for floss if it’s DMC. If the project calls for silk, I usually order Victoria Clayton silk. Hardly ever use the called for fabric. I use something comparable in my stash.
Lots of lovely finishes, such as the lighthouse and Lizzie Kate stitches. I tend to stick to called for threads but I recently found a website which will list substitute dmc colours for called for dmc colours. I use this when I need a colour for only a few stitches.
