Irony is this the third most winning est franchise in baseball history. The local politics screwed the team over, Sacramento is much larger and has way more money so local taxes could create a new stadium for team without losing the fan base in Oakland.
@@thegrouch9463But Sacramento is not considered a major american city. Also it's cheaper to live in Sacramento than the bay area. Sacramento is a farming city.
@@John-mf1vh The capital of California (the largest state in the republic) with a major sports franchise already isn’t considered a a major sports city? Did you think that through? Sacramento isn’t a farming town, it’s actually a large metropolitan area with a booming downtown area and large surrounding suburban areas. Your comment tells me you don’t know what you’re talking about. The whole state of California is the largest agricultural state in the country, period. But LA, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose and Sacramento are large, heavily populated economic epicenters. Do your homework.
@@thegrouch9463I don't doubt your not correct it's just that as big as sacramento is it doesn't get the big city treatment as other major cities. But I'll do some more recent research.
The problem is we got within 97 million dollars of making Howard Terminal a reality and Fisher got cold feet. This isn't about the city, it's about billionaires wanting free money so folks need to stop blaming Oakland or the fans here. Fisher grew up a Giants fan. His heart isn't in the East Bay let alone Oakland. We deserve a solution here. Destroy and rebuild!
Not blaming the fans at all. Fisher is a horrible owner, yes. I always feel awkward blaming a city/state for not helping a team build a stadium. But reality is, that has become the norm in pro sports. I have been a baseball fan since I could walk. I was 4 years old when my twins won their first World Series in 1987. The metronome was only 5 or so years old in 1987, and it was only a few years later the Twins won the World Series again (1991) and the demands for a new stadium came a calling. The metrodome was a dump, so I get why they wanted a new stadium, but with it only being 10-12 years old at the time, it wasn't much of a priority at the state capital. They threatened to leave the state and they threatened to contract the team. I say this all because at this time in history (early 2000s) Montreal was on the block for contraction. There was rumors Oakland could be on the list as well if they went beyond 2 teams to contract, because they need a new stadium too. So, I feel like Oakland has been in the stadium search for much much longer than Fisher. This is by no means a defense for Fisher, hes a pathetic owner and Oakland Fans deserve much better.
The City might have been close to fulfilling its end of Howard Terminal, but I doubt Fisher was. I think Fisher just proposed a gigantic mega-project like HT just to buy time: I don't think he had any intention of finding other investors to meet the $12 billion that HT would have cost. Instead, he used it, just as he used Laney College, as a half-a$$ed way to say he "tried" to make an Oakland site work, when in actuality he wanted an excuse for ANY municipality to build a stadium for him, and Vegas fell for it (and possibly Sacramento).
@matttim5095y’all always bring politics into somethin that has nothing to do with it. Why should a politician regardless of democrat or republican fund a millionaires idea. All this political talk in sports is getting old. Fisher is a horrible owner. If Oakland is dying why has Chicago moved any teams it’s plenty other so called dying cities with major league teams. Raiders left before so don’t try and say it’s because of Oakland. Warriors started in SF they are clearly a Bay Area team that’s why there not called the Oakland warriors.
Casey, you are the best! Here's my opinion. We ALL want the A's to stay in Oakland. However, moving forward...knowing the A's are indeed moving, I am excited the A's are coming to Sacramento. I grew up in the bay as an A's / 49ers fan. I moved to the Sacramento Area (like many others). There are a TON of A's fans in Sacramento. Not to mention from Redding to Modesto to Tahoe to Fairfield. And Oakland Fans are just 86 miles away! I have family and friends just off the 680. Very easy to get to west sac. Really, the A's are only losing the Peninsula fans and gaining the entire Sac Valley. The Stadium is beautiful! From the 3rd base side you can see the Tower Bridge and downtown buildings. Obviously not to major league standards. But if they can put in 10,000 temp bleachers out in Left Field...they A's will have 24,000 average attendance for 3 straight years. This is Sacramento region that put 20,000 into Hornet stadium for UFL MINOR league football. And 20,000 into Hughs stadium for minor league SOCCER. So how many fans is possible for MAJOR League baseball games? I personally think Vegas will fall through....AND....Sacramento will be such a homerun that the A's will stay. And If I lived in East Bay, or off the 680, or Fairfield I would be ecstatic that the A's didn't go to Vegas, or Salt lake, or Portland. I mean, the 49ers moved 45 miles south to Santa Clara. Sure, the fans in Santa rosa were pissed. But it still works as a bay area team. This move is just 86 miles. This can still be a "Nor Cal" team. I don't even care if they call them Oakland, Nor Cal, Sacramento, California, etc. At this point we should all be rooting for the A's to Stay in Northern California!
The A's players are going to love Sacramento. A lot of the clubhouse concerns can be fixed. They will love Sacramento's passion. I'm sure some changes will be made to the seating, including portions of the berm being converted to seating (lf for sure.)
What the A's need ? A new owner who loves baseball and the A's! This feels like Fisher is going to sell to his buddy in Sacramento, which might be the best outcome for all involved. Fisher won't succeed in moving to Vegas.....
As long as they are out of Oakland, that’s all I care about. FTR, I strongly feel the A’s are still moving to Vegas, mainly because of the huge support Fisher is receiving from the important higher ups in Vegas. That reason alone would make Fisher foolish to ignore that and stay in Sacramento. Another reason why I believe Fisher is coming to Vegas, look it’s no secret that’s it’s extremely hard to get a handout from California period to build a stadium, that’s a fact. It’s not just Oakland either, it’s the whole state, take notice on how easily and quickly Fisher was able to get his Nevada handout. Anyhow, unless Fisher and Vivek are ready to make Sacramento Stadium 100% private, I just don’t see it happening in CA.

Bally's has their own financial issues as well. Certainly a possibility they'll sell the land in Vegas and free up cash to pay down debt and build their permanent casino in Chicago. The new Vegas buyers may not want a baseball stadium. It explains why Bally's hasn't released Vegas renderings or their financial details about Vegas. Would love to see new Vegas owners (MGM?) to tell Fisher his team won't be necessary and for him to find another location.
A lot of people outside of the bay area who are hating on the city of Oakland are going to be in for a big surprise. Vegas may never happen and mlb players are going to have a major issue playing in "little league" Sacramento.

I disagree.
