I’m not sure if anything can be done except stop leaving water in cabins. Start requesting from room stewards or from bars only.

Discipline has been lost in the latest generations. We see it in school and in public. "No", no longer means "No", it means whine and complain until you get the desired answer. I wasn't raised like that and I didn't raise my kids like that. I see my kids raise my grandkids and there is still hope. Safe travels my man!

With age comes wisdom, experience and knowledge. At 63 I can see how the lack of discipline causes great harm to the child. Discipline isn’t something to be done in a state of rage. It is to be done out of necessity, whether or not it’s more difficult

Absolutely agree! I also think if discipline is warranted, it must be done in a calm, measured way that teaches and builds. Not possible while in public- go to the bathroom or the cabin and do it correctly and discretely. Doing this in public adds an element of humiliation to a 6/7 year old.

In the end, cruisers will just have to check anything thats left for them in their rooms. This may even hurt the cabin attendants (time wise) in the long run, the cruises may start requiring they check the bottles during the already busy time of getting cabins prepared for the next set of guests. @@brendanschuierer4678 probably…. But in this case the focus is on the previous passengers that were in the room and the probability of that bottle being tampered with is higher than the one received from the steward.
Also, because you asked for an exchanged bottle the room steward will make a note of this (as the bottles are an up charge), so if something were to happen to you it could be traced back to the cruise line. Just like when you say you are allergic to certain foods. A note is made and if something happens to you they could trace back where that food item came from.

A neighbor called me when no one came to get him. He was 8 and was typically home 2-3 hours after school by himself regularly.
He was used to letting the neighbor he was home and he'd make some cereal and watch TV until I got home.
In my case, I contacted the person who didn't show up and my neighbor kept an eye on him until they showed.

And mental abuse is worse than a nonharmful swat on the leg to get the kids attention when he’s not behaving well. of course any physical treatment done in anger is not discipline but crosses the line. In any case its not the cruise lines problem to evaluate parenting. Only to stop physical injury to passengers. Father of 5 here so been thru it.

I'm a firm believer of spanking, time out, and grounding. As long as the parents aren't beating their kids we should let them handle their children. We live in a crazy world and I believe it's due to the lack of discipline. Also there is a clear difference between discipline and abuse. You’re not in your own backyard where you are the only person being subjected to your children’s antics! EVERYONE is getting to enjoy him/her (NOT) running around and up and down the halls and all over the ship climbing over seats and people!” My husband and I would never have allowed our kids to act that way! It is just rude and inconsiderate of others who also paid good money for their cruise. It’s kind of like sitting next to someone who smokes (please smokers, don’t flame me here…I agree there should be a place on the ship for people to smoke.)…but I don’t want to try to breathe my fresh air only to have someone sit down next to me and light up. Smoke really does give me headaches. (I truly wish it DIDN’T bother me…the smell of coffee makes me ill as well, so I try to avoid sitting next to someone drinking coffee…BOY, do I wish I liked coffee! I am really a little envious of that…🫤) But I digress…thank you again from all the people that don’t say thank you but on the inside we are so appreciative! It not only is a courtesy to those around you, but it teaches your kids that there is a right and wrong way to act in public and to be considerate of other people…🙏🏻😅 Now get off my lawn! 🤣 (Sorry, I just had to say that since when you can’t hear “tone” in text, you don’t always know if someone is just being an old crabby patty…🤣🤣🤣)

As stated by the person in the video,
Spanking your child is never about the child. It is always about the parent. The parent is frustrated that their child is acting out, and spanking provides the parent a physical release of endorphins. That is why people advocate so hard for spanking children.
I don't think spanking your kids is abuse, but it is highly, highly ineffective. What is more effective is teaching your children boundaries, explaining right from wrong, telling them why not to do something. It is so easy to punish kids these days if further discipline is required. Take away screen time. Make them sit in time out. Who cares. You don't need to HIT a CHILD to get the point across. That is a reflection of YOUR feelings, not their misbehavior.
The reason so many people are against spanking these days isn't because they think it's abusive to the kids, it's because they themselves cannot fathom hitting a child. For us, it is not cathartic like it appears to be for the older generations.
EITHER WAY, you CERTAINLY shouldn't be spanking your kids in public, it's weird. Do that in private if you're going to do it.
There's 100 more ways to discipline your kid that doesn't involve *hurting them* to sink the point in.

I certainly hope the videographer was joking about the water bottle! The crew has enough to do, and it seems like having the check the water bottles for an authentic seal would be a huge pain!
As for the discipline admixtures to the child, elwell, it does make us uncomfortable, however I can't tell you how many times cruise directors have had to remind parents to actually watch their children on a cruise. On one to the carribean last fall, the reminder was made in nearly every announcement. That speaks volumes. So, I am sad that the child's behavior led the parent to the action, I believe the parent should be commended for administering discipline. Perhaps next time, it can be done outside the dining room.

I never wanted my children to get negative attention when in public. There’s no better compliment then when people noticed how well my children behaved when in a restaurant or public situations. To get to that point though, they had to be taught what was good and acceptable behavior, and yes my son tried many times to go
against the system!. After a few trips to the bathroom for a spanking he began to understand. We never worried about taking our children out because we knew that they knew how to behave in different settings. We followed the saying that “ You will always love your children, but no one else has too”. We have two amazing adult children who are good parents to our well behaved grandchildren!

Hi Tony. Sad story about the man who is missing. Prayer's for the family. That mother needs to be in jail and she should not get them back. She should be banned from cruising again. That could make people sick. Glue is toxic! Difference between correcting a child who is acting out with a tap to the leg is not the same as abuse. Yes, I got a wooden spoon now and then as a child. Not abuse but "you know better and should listen to me". Now, it is considered child abuse if you yell at them. Time's have changed. However I don't see a problem correcting bad behavior. (I know people will disagree with me, that's ok). As always thank you for all you do. Enjoy the rest of your cruise ❤

1 hour ago central time 3 pm. I think that is why this generation of children are weak and unable to manage their lives or problem solve. Because of the fact that some coddling, enabler parents thinks a child should not be disciplined with a pop on the butt or behind the legs. That gets their attention when words don't. Spanking on the back of the legs is not a smack or slap. Good grief! That child probably was causing a ruckus. The other diners would be talking about how she needed to control her child so they could enjoy their dinner. She did nothing wrong!

I have seen numerous uncontrolled children whose parents should have given them a slap on the leg. Six or seven is old enough to behave properly. And there is NO LAW in the USA preventing spanking. Child abuse is another matter.
Some people seem to think parenting means letting a child do whatever they want. Thar is really child abuse.

As a retired child protective worker I can tell you that spanking is not necessarily abusive unless it’s excessive and leaves bruises. My own child had a healthy respect for a quick smack to the back of the legs. It got her attention, then other appropriate methods of discipline could be utilized. I’m guessing that the person complaining is the same person who complains about children acting up and creating a disturbance on a cruise ship. I agree with you and John Heald that it was not the crew’s responsibility to get involved unless real harm was being done. And by the way, regarding your comment about the silent treatment, maybe it was in jest but it was the most effective form of discipline for my child.

    1. The kids were 6 and 8 yrs old. I was a latchkey kid and not allowed to stay at home for that long when I was 10-11 yrs old. I'm glad the neighbor saw. She should have took the kids to the family member's house. You don't have someone check in periodically for a 6 and 8 yr old.
    2. The early 2010s youtube wants their tired pranks back. This is like when people who do offensive shock "comedy" to regular people making them mad and call it "just a joke." It's not a joke. This is yelling fire in a theater. I'd bet some zero amount of guests probably asked their room attendant to bring new water bottles. Saying it was a joke is damage control.
    3. I'm just as uncomfortable seeing kids acting the dang fool and running around or playing their noisy ipad at full volume and no headphones. Even as another guest, they don't know the full context of how the child and mother interacted that day so it's a case of mind your business. Your waiter is not your therapist.

On the kids being disciplined, I always find it ironic people will go to the lengths to “complain to management” about something someone else is doing yet not confront said bothersome person themselves. If it’s enough for you to say something to them at the time, it’s not enough to complain anonymously later. That said I would take my kid from the public view before whippin’ dat azz anyway.

Tony (Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Reauthorization Act, 2010)--In all 50 states, physical punishment by parents-that is, acts that may cause physical pain but that do not cause harm or injury-is legal. Now does that mean Parents should discipline their child(ren) in public places-that is probably at the discretion of the parent; but I would believe most would probably prefer to do it in private.
The water hack is purely EVIL definitely NOT a joke and surely a lifetime bannable event.
