My Grandmother was a guide there, and in around 1965 we spent Christmas there with the whole place to ourselves while she looked after it. I can remember the big fireplace and long dining table in the main hall. The chairs were Chippendale and worth a lot of money. There was a steam railway that was nearby that came from Newquay and closed by the infamous Dr Beeching. My sister and I would go out there by ourselves on the train at age 11 in 1961, I doubt if kids would be allowed to do that nowadays.
