Can you do another walk in the summer? I know the old horse chestnut trees were cut down and replaced decades ago, but wonder what they were replaced with? I lost 'me bearins' as I was looking out for the mermaid fountain which would be in front of what is now Sainsbury's. Interesting walk! You went all the way to 'the top end' which we hardly ever did.
Hi My Auntie Val snd Uncle Adilio use to have a patisserie cake shop back in the 50s called Morrettis that was their name on the left before the fact it's last row of the cafe before the roundabout not far from the fire station. Could you tell us what has happened to the vacate shops. Thank you I can't fault Southport. To me it's the most amazing sea side resort and caters for everyone. The architect of houses and other residential roads. There is a side road with all colors painted above the shops. That unique for uk..I also love red brick .there seems to be loads..thanks again
Lord st was lined with elm trees back 60s but all were felled due to dutch elm disease, i lived right by the old gas works cobden road but live here thailand these days & i see its truly lost its charm.
There are a lot of boarded-up shops and charity shops on Lord Street now. The rot had set in before covid, but then accelerated during the pandemic. The gasometer sadly went in 2009.

There used to be an icecream shop called "Richies" back in the 80s. Done a cracking knickerbockerglory.
