  • This is Track #1 from the Randy Stonehill album Welcome To Paradise.
Listen to the whole album here - • Randy Stonehill - Welc...
This album was Randy's third and at this point Randy was a very accomplished musician. His song writing had always been very strong but now his guitar work was catching up. For many this album was their first exposure to Randy Stonehill and it had strong sales numbers. Larry Norman both produced and played guitar on the album. Point of trivia is that T-Bone Burnett joined the album as a bass player.

First heard this song when it came out in 1976. As a child, horror and abuse filled every aspect of my life. I listened to this song until the music and lyrics were imprinted on my heart, in my mind, and soul. I sang it when I was alone and would close my eyes. I saw myself in that ship and believed that song was for me. I actually had the honor of getting to know Randy Stonehill for a short time in High School, as he was friends with my pastor. Humble. Lovely man. Now, at 58 years old, I am returning to this song to help me in another tragic period in my life. But there's a rainbow somewhere

Randy opened with this great song at queen's University, Belfast in the 80s, I gave him a standing ovation then, what an opener. Wrote and sang some great songs. Thank you,Randy. God bless . Thank you, Lord.

Although I am no longer a Christian, I still love this album. Larry and Randy kept me out of trouble in my adolescence by not following the crowd down a dark path. For that alone, I am thankful to them.

2023 and I'm just now learning that this is a Randy Stonehill song!
Went to college in 1977 and started going to the Wesley Foundation. Every Monday evening we had a student-lead service of singing and devotions.
That's where I first heard this song and learned it on guitar. I never thought to find out where it originated.
Now I'm 65 and still singing this song! Of course, there's age in my voice but the guitar still rings true.

I heard this song for the first time while I was an enrolled student at Hillcrest Christian College in Medicine Hat, Alberta Canada in September 1979, I had loofed for this song or/and author and just last year after 40 years I finally found it! it has become one of the most beloved albums I've heard of this type of Christian music. Blessings to all and to Randy Stonehill.

In early 77, I took a dose of LSD on Friday night on a day so cold my college had suspended classes for safety. I basically became a Christian that night. The next night I attended a Christian outreach concert run by kids who had been part of Bill Hybel's remarkable Son Village high school ministry and wanted to build a college fellowship modeled after it. Days later I went to a Christian bookstore and bought this new album, and also Phil Keaggy's "Love Broke Through" which was next level great, musically. Thank you Randy for such a beautiful record, it spoke to me so much as I played it over and over. Jesus is returning soon, in Love as it is his very nature, but also in true and perfect Justice.

I'm playing it as a college radio DJ with (mostly) full reins now!! Right this instant!! Steve Taylor and Randy Stonehill are a couple of my favorites so I almost always play songs by them on my setlists. I graduate in 19 days, I'm going to miss doing this radio program terribly. I pray the Lord multiplies my efforts to minister to people sharing the same music that has spoken to and ministered to my heart in powerful ways.

I think we were/are so blessed to have been exposed to such a tremendous talent, both the goofiness and serious side of such an honest and open talent. I remember asking a friend of mine who knew music and had talked about some different guitar playing Christian musicians he could easily copy. But Phil Keagey and Randy Stonehill were guitarists whose guitar playing he couldn't emulate.

A classic by one of the true pioneers and fathers of CCM. In the late 70s, I wanted to do a song that I had heard him do in concert (The Sky is Falling) but his second album wasn't out yet. I was backstage before one of his concerts and asked if a recording was available. He said, "No, but if you have a cassette recorder and bring it back to the dressing room after the show, I'll record it for you." Not only did he do that, but he showed me some of the non-standard chords used for it. A real gentleman! I went on to cover that song many times in subsequent years. Thanks again, Randy! It's a shame that the current contemporary Christian music movement has lost sight of some of these giants, on whose shoulders they stand.
